a possible injury. we will follow up in a few minutes. we are following breaking news in the east bay. police searching for a suspect in fremont safr someoafter some found dead in a home. matt? >> reporter: good morning, reggie and jessica. they are likely talking with witnesses who heard gunshots early this morning. no real sign of a search in this area. they have crime scene tape up. and they are gathered at the end of carlson way. it started 12:30 this morning. officers found a person in the home. they person died at the scene. they were utilizing a drone from the alamed county sheriff's

office. there was a little bit of time between the gunshots and the call to police. the suspect may have had time to leave the area. this is the second homicide of the year in fremont. matt keller, abc 7 news. matt, thank you. it would be impossible to mark the one-year anniversary of the north bay fire without acknowledging the tremendous loss in santa rosa. entire neighborhoods disappeared. one of those neighborhoods lost more than 4 lives, 1200 homes. leslie? >> reporter: that's right. it was the tubbs fire. an inferno roared down over the hillsides and incinerated entire neighborhoods, streets, subdivision here at coffey park. houses are being rebuilt.

four people died in one night. 1200 homes vanished. 60% of the homes are in some stage of rebuilding here in coffey park. let's look at what it was of like a year ago. people remember a wall of winds fueled by diablo. people described it as raining % fire here. people came home to find houses vanished, cars melted. neighbors banded together and they have become the model community for home rebuilding. insurance rental patients for temporary housing, still another year to go. the race is on to rebuild 325 single-family homes are already

notice the temperatures will taper tomorrow and wednesday as the sea breeze returns. it will take away the fire danger. once we get past wednesday, a warming trend is on the way. po danger. that is coming up in the accuweather 7-day forecast. jessica thank you. quick action is credited for stopping a brushfire from spreading in the south bay. it broke out yesterday afternoon on monterey in south san jose. the smoke was so thick, chp shut down a portion of highway 101. fire crews managed to keep the flyer to just 25 acres. no word yet what caused the fire. despite the heroic efforts of firefighters in the north bay, the wildfires destroyed entire neighborhoods. take a look at this. this was the tuscany development in the fountain grove area in santa rosa before the fire. this is that same neighborhood when droneview7 drove over

after. block after block leveled. it was one of the hardest hit areas. and today little has changed. the burned debris is gone. but there are so many empty lots. for sale signs dot the neighborhood. signs of change for certain, but still little sign of recovery. >> among the places hard hit by last year's wild fires was the tiny community of glen ellen. fires destroyed home after home, including a place of healing. casey dugard helped save the horses at the height of the fire. thha the story. >> step. step. >> it's the first time back for this horse freesia since the frightening night when a firestorm came rage toward her home, a ranch in glen ellen.

>> freesia is a therapy horse owned by dr. who treated jaycee dugard. on the night of the fire bailey and husband were out of the country. jaycee was in the area and among those who came to rescue the horses after a call from bailey's daughter. >> very frightening to get a call from your daughter saying, mom, i just drove down the block and there are 20-foot flames on either side. of oo g the and all oer leed to put us through 24 hours -- 36 hours of terror, terror really. >> the horses were saved. but most everything else was a total loss.

the home bailey and her husband shared and the ranch the couple used as a protected space for bailey's patients. people trying to recover from a traumatic event. >> it was an oasis. and so losing the spot, losing the notion that it was even called a protected space, has been horrendous. >> bailey's husband charles holmes is still processing all that is lost here. >> it strips everything down so all that's left season love. all that's left is love. &what we care about really. >> the structures that once made up the protected space is gone now. dr. bailey told us after the fire she realized it's not about the place at all. >> what we found is the protected space is more about the people that are around to protect the folks that are here than maybe the spot.

und ad inside a >> reporter: good morning, crime scene tape is up here. not a lot of activity. down the street on charleston way, officers are outside a home there. it started 12:30 this morning. police were called for reports of shots fired. officers found a victim in the home. that person died at the scene. officers established a large parameter to search for the male suspect. they were utilizing a drone from the alameda county sheriff's office. they are interviewing people who heard the gunshots. live in fremont, matt keller, abc 7 news. >> matt, thank you. this fire started at 11:00 yesterday morning. high winds whipped fire across 4,000 acres in just a few hours.

wait indoors with windows and doors closed until the air quality gets better. and of course this fire, an eery reminder of today marking one year since the deadly wildfires that devastated the north bay. >> flames leveled entire neighborhoods, trapping people without warning. 44 people were killed. 22 of them from sonoma county. hundreds of people attended a prayer service in santa rosa to remember those who died. the fire described and damaged parts of the campus. >> the shock and the pain and the fear and the trauma are the same for all of us. we all went through that. >> a lot of people were underinsured. so they are able to rebuild their homes. for the most part, santa rosa is strong. it will always be be strong. our people come together and we support each other. >> the fire chief there says new safeguards are in place. the department has the ability to send electronic alerts to the

>> the true heroes of that incident were those bus drivers. i took an oath. i signed up to see all of these bad things. those guys didn't. humanity at its best. i grabbed people and started to help them on the bus as fast as possible but as calm as possible too. >> once the buses were loaded up, the drivers took them into an evacuation center. who can forget that moment. >> i remember wade freeman did a story about the bus drivers. he's right, they were enormously brave and saved so many people. of course one of the hardest hit areas by the tubbs fire was the coffey park fire. >> i remember being there after it happened. everything was gone. it looked like a war zone. leslie brinkley is in coffey park on how the community is rebuilding one year later.

embers. so fires sparked all over the place. >> the conditions we experienced were nothing like we experienced in our careers. >> now, you lost your home here in the north bay. you're rebuilding. you would you're just a month away from being able to go back in. what is life like a year later. >> kind of like we were talking about earlier. the destruction, trees, power lines, cars flipped over. i don't think anybody would have understood what it would look like a year from now. but to see the amount of work that's been done by all the departments to come together to help this community continue to rebuild and recover has been amazing. >> it will look like a different coffey park. individual contractors. it won't be looking as much like
