disappearing act, a manhunt is on in san jose after a man escapes and then steals the patrol car. a wild chase ends but no sign of the escape artist. thanks for joining us. police need our help to find this guy. we'll show you our picture. this started with a call about a possible stolen semi. it got really crazy after police arrested their suspect and he escaped with their car.

abc 7 news live in san jose, matt. >> reporter: hi. yeah. most of the police cars are leaving the scene. he was wearing an orange shirt with reflective stripes but despite that he hasn't been caught. this is definitely unusual. police searching for one of their own patrol cars this morning. the driver of that car, andrew trujillo. he was found inside the cab of a stolen semi truck this morning. he was arrested and put in the back of the patrol car. >> some how the suspect was able to slip the cuffs to the front of his body and was able to open up the door and escape in the police car. >> trujillo ended up up up u miles away leaving a couple of crashes in his quake. she did not want to be on

camera. she said her employee saw trujillo pull into the parking lot. >> he saw what is the stolen police car and tuck itself in, get out and run up the driveway this way towards where we are now. >> >> reporter: sha searched the add jay isn't rv storage park. it looked like he escaped their grasp once again. >> pretty much what most people would think. >> reporter: officers say all of the police cars weapons have been accounted for. matt keller, abc 7 news. >> what a wild story. thank you. the u.s. ambassador to the united nations is stepping down. president trump announced that she will be leaving her post at year's end. he says she first informed him six months ago.

on alert. i don't live in this county but that's what the goal is. everyone here should know when there's an extreme emergency going on. the test wasn't flawless this morning. the napa county supervisors meeting was going on we vupted, a welcomed alert. they wanted a test called the i pause. >> it to issue alerts to anyone within a geographical area. >> they sent out an alert. it is an opt-in program. they now realize the importance of reaching those who aren't subscribers. >> we have 170,000 subscribers now but if there are 50,000 people in this community that are tourists and we hit 60% of those who would not have gotten

a mess jage i look at that as a huge improvement. >> the director of emergency services was awaiting the alert at 9:30 but it didn't come through. they moved on until the officer announced fema was sending them a failure notice for the test. >> we were giving the go ahead last week and gave the reassurance it will go off. there is a technical impact. >> officials got on the phone with fema who walked them through how to set up the portal correctly. it is now considered up and running. sonoma county tested the program. now both counties are using this alert. it is considered operational now. it does have its limitations. there are rural that don't have cell coverage. this is considered an improvement. they will still use it for less urgent messages.

it will be for extreme emergencies only. abc 7 news. >> if there will be a hiccup let it be now when there's nothing going on. >> mike will talk to us about what's going on weather wise. we have experienced a bit of a change in temperature. >> a little bit of a whip lash. it was 70 yesterday morning. now temperatures are from 1 degree cooler than 20 hours ago to double digits in oakland. look at napa, 15 degrees cooler. if you're stepping out now temperatures are running mainly in the 60. as we head into the afternoon hours that sea breeze is kicking. only about 13 miles per hour. it will pick up speed this afternoon from the golden gate bridge through the delta, possibly up to 25 to 30 miles per hour. what is it going to do to our temperatures? look at this.

moving and expected to make land fall in florida tomorrow. many are getting gas and sa sandbagging. all right. let's look specifically at what it is doing and what you'll see is it really got well defined over the last 12 hours. you can definitely see the spinning there. that is 1 degree shy of a category 3 major hurricane. the good thing is it's moving fast unlike florence. at 8:00 tomorrow morning 125 miles per hour winds as it heads towards a direct hit and at least in the middle of the day. it goes right up into about augusta, georgia. it keeps going across the carolinas wednesday night into friday morning. see how fast it is moving? this is so saturated no matter what falls they will be dealing

with flooding. the wind damage and storm surge will be the big issue. from about panama city to horseshoe feet we could have up to 13 foot storm surge. that is on top of high tide. from about mobile to key west they could have a storm surge up to 6 feet. more damage there even though you could see the direct path clearly. if you look at our color coding over here 7 to 10 inches possible. it will be flooding but not nearly as widespread for as long in duration as we saw with florence. our weather is changing. look at that. a beautiful view this morning. you are seeing the iris. that's the camera adjusting like our pupil would to the season light. that is a gorgeous shot. here is another one. clouds at the coast. sea breeze brings cooling weather to the bay and the coast for sure. above average warmth coming

again as we head through the weekend. mid-to upper 60s along the weekend. san francisco low to mid-70s for most of the bay. you'll have upper 70s to low 80s. notice the east bay and south bay will be in the low 80s. here is a look at sunny san jose. here is the shark tank. here is temperatures. 59 at the coast to comfortable 68 to 75. temperatures continue to warm more so around the bay inland than at the coast as we head towards 4:00. by 8:00 into midnight that cloud deck is rolling back. look what does it tonight. there will be fog along highway 11. the usual spots up towards windsor. we'll have low to mid-50s. you can see cloud cover encroaching. it will be thickest overthe bay and the coast. it will set us up for the coolest day tomorrow. low to upper 70s elsewhere. the sea breeze backs off a little bit.

temperatures back to average thursday and a light offshore wind and then we surge into near 80 around the bay to almost 90 inland. our warmest day saturday. we stay pretty close to that sunday and monday. >> that's warm over there. >> for those of us on the cooler side i can't complain at all. fremont street is on track to reopen in time for the friday morning commute. a one block section was closed after a pair of steel beams were found with cracks. that was almost two weeks ago. work crews are shoring up before engineers try to determine what caused the crash. shoring up steel beams as a precaution. no actual problems have been spotd on that side of the building. localish is sharing inspiring stories called more in common. you'll meet the north korean man that meets the love of his life after relocating to america.
