live where you live, this is abc 7 news. >> right now hurricane michael is lashing the florida panhandle with punishing winds and rain. the monster storm, one of the strongest to make landfall in the u.s. in nearly 50 years. hundreds of thousands of people evacuated, and electricity could be out for weeks, but, first, here at home, a massive warehouse fire in oakland could be seen from miles away. finally under control. its location near the b.a.r.t. coliseum station creating concerns for commuters this morning.thks for jngwe uegh a b

fire. fire investigators are looking for the cause after finally controlling the blaze. it broke out at a storage itr mth for a painting companye latest. matt, nobody was hurt, right? >> oh, yeah, hi, kristen. i want to there's the oakland coliseum and the coliseum b.a.r.t. station. you can see what took place this morning. the warehouse, there's still firefighters trying to put out hot spots right now. they will be bringing in a bulldozer to knock down some of the walls here. the flames were huge, the smoke thick. firefighters were called to this warehouse on holly street at 72nd avenue in oakland at about 6:30 this morning. the first crew on the scene called for a first alarm. 15 minutes later, a second alarm was called. about 40 firefighters on the scene, but the flames weren't the most dangerous part of their

job. power lines were also down in the area. >> for us obviously it's electrocution and it's dark and you can't see it. you're working hard to get the fire out. >> reporter: pg&e was called out to shut the power off, but fire fighters were not going inside this warehouse. paint and paint supplies were inside and firefighters didn't know how much. firefighters kept the fire from spreading to nearby homes. as for the investigation into the cause of the fire. a crew responded to an outside fire at the same location at 3:00 a.m. >> it turned out to be a woman using some debris to make a warming fire so they asked her to put it out investigators are to talk to that woman as their investigation into the cause of the fire continues. reporting live in oakland, matt keller, abc 7 news. >> matt, thank you. another fire in the east bay this morning, this one observi oaklee. thank fly no one was hurt and no nearby businesses suffered damage. the cause of the fire is under

investigation, but what you're looking at here is panama city, florida, as hurricane michael barrels its way in, and, mike, feel free to jump in at any sec. this is an unprecedented category 4 storm but very close to a category 5. >> it strengthened again. it's pumped up to 155 miles per hour. 157 is category 5 level. not only florence but two unprecedented hurricanes within the same season which we'll be studying for months and years a ahead. >> president trump has been briefed on this certainly. he's working with fema to get the response ready, but right now can you take a look at the path for us. >> sure. here's the latest. let's go to live doppler 7. i have it dialed down on the live radar around panama city. you can see there it is, 155-mile-per-hour winds. look where the eye isnd me

gusting more than0 miles per hour, and the wind damage that i've been talking about all week is going to be the main threat, not even the straight line winds but the more tightly concentrated winds in the tornadoes that are possible that you can see in this red, and there will be more tornado watches in georgia and south carolina and north carolina as this moves up to the southeast. and it is the life-threatening flooding and wind that's the biggest concern. because this is a fast-moving storm, there's going to be hundreds of miles of wind damage. in fact, let me go back and show you. here it is. tightening up during the overnight hours, moving ashore. now let me show you where it's going to go. it's still going to be pumping at least 50-mile-per-hour winds as it heads through north carolina, and it rains on those same areas that are still saturated from florence. so flooding is going to continue all the way through at least friday. kristen? all mike, thanks so much. we're continuing to monitor hurricane michael coming up around 11:07. we'll go live to florida with

abc news with conditions on the ground right now. you can get updates any time on the abc news app and abcnews.com. some other news right now. new at 11:00, a 34-year-old man is under arrest accused in a serious sexual assault at levi stadium. david gonzalez is in custody. santa clara police say at the end of sunday's 49ers' game against the cardinals gonzalez got into a fight with a 33-year-old man in the parking lot. investigators say he punched the man twice, including once in the head and then drove away. that victim is in critical condition. police tracked gonzalez down at his home yesterday. he's now facing felony charges. san francisco police say six women are involved in the brutal beating of a 20-year-old man. this morning the suspects are all still on the run. police say the attack happened early sunday morning on mission near 29th street. the victim got into an argument with the women. it escalated to a fight. the man was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. no arrests right now. anyone with information is asked

to call sfpd. a new report says rentable scooters will be back on san francisco streets next week. according to the examiner, two companies scott and skip will be allowed to display or deploy their scooters in a pilot program that begins on monday. the companies will be limited to 1,250 scooters in the first phase of the pilot. they can be ridden anywhere in the city but must be parked in designated areas, the financial district, the embarcadero, the castro, the mission and a few others. some important information for you if you or someone you know takes the preventive hiv pill prep. a man in san francisco contracted the virus while taking the medication. he's believed to be the sixth person worldwide and the first in california to contract hiv while on prep. the case race revealed during an infectious disease conference in san francisco last week. the man's strain of the virus matches one of his partners who

gone off his meds. despite the most recent case, monica gandhi told aidsmap.com this is a rare case, and i don't want anyone to worry too much. it's 99%, and that's pretty good for a medical intervention. monterey county health officials are asking people to stay out of the water at three public beaches because of water contamination. the problem is fecal matter. water samples tested positive for monterey municipalities beach and carmel beach avenue. the bacteria may have come from storm drain runoff, animal or human feces. public health officials will remove the advisories once it's safe for visitors. we're turning back to the latest on hurricane michael. it just made landfall on the florida panhandle right as we were starting our newscast. it's a monster with sustained wind at 155 miles per hour, just below category 5 status. abc's maggie ruehly has the

latest fm panama city beach. >> reporter: officials are warning everyoneehe worst storm they have ever seen. >> hurricane michael is forecast to be the most destructive storm to hit the florida panhandle in a century. >> reporter: overnight michael is becoming a powerful category 4 that just keeps growing stronger. >> you can hear, if you stop for a moment, the roaring gulf of mexico behind me. it's so eerie knowing that that category 4 storm is now about 100 miles to our south. seen from space, this hurricane is intimidating, stretching some 400 miles with winds topping 140 miles per hour and a storm surge expected to be as high as 13 feet. >> anybody that doesn't evacuate, that experiences storm surge doesn't typically live to tell about that story. >> reporter: fema rushing to mobilize against the fast-moving storm. >> this one popped up on the radar screen basically saturday morning. >> reporter: an extra 1,000 utility workers brought in from out of state are on standby as

we're back and taking a look from mt. tam with a dry cold front running through our neighborhoods reinforcing the cooling trend the last day or so. temperatures up to 13 degrees cooler now than 24 hours ago which puts most of us into the low to mid-60s. santa rosa 56 and cloud cover is lingering a little bit longer there. same thing in the hills around los gatos and upper 60s around concord and san ramon and vacaville. brentwood also 69. a look from our roof camera at a mostly sunny afternoon

unfolding. late morning, early afternoon. cooling trend continues, but we quickly reverse that friday, saturday, sunday, monday and tuesday. above average warmth and it will reach all neighborhoods. that means the coast also. here's the flow right now coming down from alaska and canada. any chance of showers today with the cold front will be up around tahoe and yosemite, and it's just a one-day chance they will be gone by tomorrow. yo can see it's going to be mostly sunny this afternoon with mid-70s in our inland neighborhoods, including the south bay. low 70s around the bay, and then low to mid-60s along the coast into san francisco at only about 64 degrees. now, as we break down what's going to happen the next 12 hours, lingering clouds at noon and all of us still locked in the 60s, by 4:00 inland neighborhoods will jump into the mid-70s and by 8:00 with a light breeze and the clear conditions back into the 50s and 60s and cooling quickly into the mid to upper 50s by midnight on our way to some mid to upper 40s in the north bay and our deepest east

bay valleys and low to mid-50s and even cooler tomorrow morning than this morning and look at the north bay where the cloud deck will be thickest and a little bit of drizzle out towards the coast. thinking about going to the beach starting at 5:00 tomorrow morning through 5:00 friday evening, a 36-hour window of a strong southerly swell that will bring us rip currents and waves and danger there. let's turn our attention really quick back towards michael. this is going to be retired, that name, because this is a catastrophic storm that became 155-mile-per-hour sustained winds as it moved ashore just about an hour, hour and 20 minutes ago. it will rain heavily in the southeast. if you have flights through there and family through there, expect hundreds of thousands of people to lose power the next 24 to 36 hours as that thing rolls through. back here at home, it's going to be cool again tomorrow, but look at that dramatic jump in the temperature. that's when the winds start blowing offshore again friday and we reach the 70s in the coast. 80s around the way and a few
