in eastern india killing two people earlier today. this video posted on instagram showing heavy rain and high winds up to 95 miles per hour. the storm forced 300,000 people to find higher ground. the storm will weaken to a tropical depression by tomorrow. still not open. fremont street near the stay closed longer than expected. >> it is all because of the cracks in the steel beams. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live in san francisco. amy >> reporter: hi, jess can ska. yeah, that work that you see going on behind me, that is taking longer than they thought it would. they are put anything temporary supports to shore up this spot above fremont street. they say it is a complex project. they need a few more days. the plan was to open fremont street tomorrow. they are now pushing it until

next wednesday. they shut down the street and closed the brand-new transit center last month when they found two cracked beams in the new building, shutting down fremont caused traffic areas in an already congested area. they told us people have adjusted. >> i think for the most part what i have seen every morning, because i walk through here, is the traffic has naturally rediverted itself. people that do this every day are starting to adjust to it. i think it's the curiosity of what does this mean and will it have a longer take to make it right or is there going to be more things that make this happen. >> hopefully everyone can handle a few more days. here is a look at the impacted area. buses are using the temporary transit center. no word with when this brand-new one will open again. they are aiming to have fremont open next wednesday. officials expect to get an

bay. southbound 101 through san rafael. no one hitting the brakes yet. drive times next. alexis, thank you. we are learning more about a warehouse fire in oakland we showed you yesterday on "abc 7 mornings". massive flames lit up the early morning darkness. firefighters realized they couldn't save the building on holly street, so they concentrated they are efforts on preventing flames from spread to go nearby homes. they hoped to build 59 affordable homes and make them available in 2021. >> we are hoping it doesn't slow down the process. it is another wrinkle in the complex world of building housing, but it is something we will get through. >> yesterday's fire broke out about 6:30 in the morning. firefighters had put out a smaller fire outside the warehouse a few hours earlier. the initial fire was set by a homeless person trying to stay

the destruction across the florida pab handle left behind by hurricane michael is planned for two deaths. >> it storm ased inland with damaging winds. >> maggie rulli live in panama city beach, florida. maggie? >> reporter: reggie and jessica, the focus has turned to recovery and survival. first responders saying they are trying to get to those in need, but it's going to take some time. this morning the panhandle struggling to comprehend the devastation left behind by hurricane michael. >> it was terrifying, honestly. it was a lot of noise. >> reporter: one of the strongest hurricanes to ever hit the u.s. we're getting our first glimpse of this storm's raw power from above. drone video shows buildings, including a school, torn apart by the high winds. >> i saw an entire home taken

off its foundation and rolled down the street. >> so much debris. 6 >> reporter: in mexico city beach, ginger zee saw 155-mile-per-hour winds. we felt the eyewall come ashore in panama city peach. the rippling and the wind continues to intensify. david witnessed its strength in nearby panama city. >> it's going to go. it's going to go. you can see the roof of the hotel that we have been standing out there. that was the shelter for a category 4 hurricane. that has now come down to the suvs. >> reporter: the storm whipped through florida, toppling trees, knocking out power for an expected of hundreds of thousands along the way. >> when they say evacuate again, i'm out of here. >> reporter: michael just keeps going. the monster storm barreling through georgia with hurricane-force winds. the first time the state has seen a major hurricane since 1898.

now, many areas here have been under mandatory curfews throughout the night. now is not the time to risk their lives. stay indoors and let first responders get to work. maggie rulli, abc 7 news. >> maggie, i know you were working with and alongside a lot of crews covering hurricanes for years. what were they saying how michael compared to other storms? >> reporter: well, reggie, it was sort of scary to hear from some of them. they have been out here covering storms in florida for decades and haven't really felt winds quite this powerful. we saw winds topping 150, 15chlh some of the signs behind us were ripping off their foundations, running down the street. people were very concerned. when the winds broke out, all the media out front sort of broadcasting from inside the hotel to take shelter because it

became too dangerous to stay on outside. so, again, people have been doing this for decades saying they say one of the most intense storms it ever experienced. >> it certainly looked that way. maggie rulli, live from panama city beach. thank you, maggie. just for some perspective, this is how the size of hurricane michael compares to the state of california. the storm spanning our entire state from redding to los angeles. breaking overnight. nasa said a crew headed to the international space station is in good condition after making an emergency landing in russia. nasa sent out this tweet earlier this morning saying the ground crews had reached the american astronaut and russian cosmonaut and they are fine. they had just blasted off from a launch site in kazakhstan when the rocket experienced some sort of failure. these are photos of the launch.

engineers were worried because the capsule had to reenter at an angle steeper than normal. the crew reported at one point they were weightless as the capsule flew free on its own. just a short time ago, the russians said they are suspending manned launches until they figure out exactly what went wrong. in the stock market, overnight asia took a beating following a day of losses here. that could mean another down day on wall street as concerns about rising interest rates grow. tech stocks have been especially hit hard. matt keller live in san jose. matt? good morning, reggie. hold on tight. we could see another rough morning for the stock market when that opening bell rings at about 6:30 this morning. analysts are expecting the dow to drop 350 points at the opening bell. this follows a tough day yesterday. the dow jones was down for man 800 points. tech stocks were hit the

embarcadero in the antioch and dublin/pleasanton due to an earlier equipment problem to the tracks. they did get that fixed quite some time ago. they are still trying to work that out. central valley, heavy due to construction. and typical volumes in tracy. alexis, thank you. a multimillion dollar verdict in a case against a pesticide giant may now be in jeopardy. a judge is questioning the jury's award in a lawsuit against monsanto, the maker of weed killer roundup. johnson sued the company claiming it caused his terminal cancer. a jury agreed and awarded him $289 million back in august. in a tentative ruling, the judge indicated she is ready to throw out most of the judgment and order a new trial. both sides of the case have until the end of the week to submit written arguments before a final decision is made. >> just in time for halloween.
