involuntary manslaughter in exchange for nine years in prison. the judge shocked him and rejected the plea deal listening to family members testify for two days about their losses. they said if they had known that they would never have agreed to let the judge fill in. max harris has decided to go on and go to trial. the judge rejected the deal because he said almena didn't seem remorseful. he said he has felt remorse since the fire happened nearly two years ago. amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> thank you, amy. a long road from recovery after hurricane michael. >> authorities just updated the number of people dead to 11. that is up from what we said earlier this morning. they fear there may be more victims. and you can see this drone video of an overturned freight train along highway 231 east of panama

city, florida, one of the hardes hha aon people are without power right now. local governments imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew and told residents to boil their water. emergency response teams from the bay area are heading to florida to help with rescue and recovery. the northern california chapter of the red cross deployed 10 volunteers and more are on the way. >> it depends on the needs and the skill sets and our availability. we just see dozens more volunteers going out in the next week. >> oakland's task force 4 sent two firefighters to pensacola. more team members are on stand by. if you want to help people affected by the storm, the red cross is taking monetary donations. more info at abc7news.com. abc 7 news is committed to building a better bay area. we're devoting more time to issues that affect your quality of life. the lack of affordable housing is pushing some people to live in rvs. that's creating problems in one

san francisco neighborhood. residents say as many as 30 rvs can be parked next to the reservoir along university street. neighbors say they create problems with safety and sanitation. but they believe city leaders can do something to make it better for everyone. >> we are sympathetic towards these people. we kind of don't think this is the place for them, anyplace, any street. why couldn't the city find something where they can put them and you can provide facilities. >> the supervisor who represents them has asked the department of homelessness to find a safe place where people can camp inside their rvs. the agency claims it lacks the money to make that happen. >> some cities are coming up solutions for rv dwellers to help build a better bay area. mountain skpraou -- mountain view and santa clara county teamed up for a pilot program to provide safe parking. it allows people living in their

back at 6:15. uber ceo is the latest major business leader to distance himself from saudi arabia's government. this follows the disappearance of the journalist who was critical of the saudi regime. the "washington post" columnist vanished after entering the consulate in istanbul, turkey. former governor schwarzenegger is apologizing for past behavior, saying he stepped times. the 71-year-old hollywood actor turned politician spoke to men's health magazine about his career. he said in 2003 when he first became governor and long before the me too movement he took

of this house. roofs blown straight off. search and rescue is going door to door fearing more people could be trapped inside. the job ahead is overwhelming. these neighborhoods are devastated. they are starting to come together. we saw a man outside grilling for his neighbors. and waffle house restaurants have reopened less than 24 hours after the storm. maggie rulli, abc news, panama city, florida. >> you mentioned someone grilling. are a lot of people out and about or is it still pretty desolate? >> reporter: people are slowly coming back out. expecting so inspecting some of their homes. this is panama city, mexico beach. those two areas were hit particularly hard. people are not supposed to come back home to them right now, but they are coming back to check on

their land. one woman in a grocery store yesterday just opened up. she looked to a man and asked how he was doing. you could see in his eyes, our house, not much is left but we are here getting canned goods. i want to share, jessica, just this morning, we have seen dozens of emergency vehicles on this road to my right. heading that way into the disaster zones. they have come from all over, neighboring areas as well. residents are slowly tipping back. still an emphasis on search and rescue, getting into hard-hit areas to make sure more disasters don't occur. >> maggie rulli reporting from panama city. thank you very much. >> two u.s. other on force cargo

planes departed travis this morning en route to tindall air force base in panama you can see why. the base took a direct hit from the hurricane, suffering widespread catastrophic damage. roofs of buildings ripped apart. a jet overturned. one of the teams carrying people from travis. police officers responding to a gas station overnight sparking is fears of possible credit card fraud. >> the station at maude and borregas avenues. matt keller is there with what police have found? >> reporter: it is supposed to open up at 6:00. it is closed. you can see why. the department of public safety for sunnyvale has it all taped off. and you can see that the pumps here, the screens are actually open. you have an officer over here

keeping this area secure, keeping an eye on it until owners get an expert to see what the suspects did to the wiring inside. here's video from early this morning. officers were seen looking at the credit card payment systems. they are investigating what the two suspects were doing in the middle of the night. they were inside the pumps doing something with the wiring. one of them may be connected to a similar type of crime in another state. credit card skimmers have been an issue here in the bay area in recent years. the expert is supposed to be out later and hopefully officers will have more answers on what took place overnight. matt keller, abc 7 news. matt, thank you. new details on the investigation into a near miss at sfo. an air canada plane that almost landed on top of other planes has no voice recorder evidence. the air canada flight landed on a taxiyway with four other jets last year. it missed another jetliner by 60

down into the mid-60s by the time the evening rolls around. our last stop will be the south bay where we start off at 53 with sunshine. 73, very comfortable at lunch, low 80s in the afternoon hours. back to 68 at 8:00. we have some of our warmest weather ahead of us in the accuweather seven-day forecast. bring alexis in here and talk about the morning commute. how is it going? >> it hasn't been the best friday commute. not terrible. boy, we have some changing conditions in the north bay. as mike has been telling us, the fog rapidly developing in the north bay. skhe check this out, visibility on the traffic maps. fog is thick on state route 37. no dense advisories issued by chp. certainly slow down and drive for conditions. tri-valley, westbound 580, before isabel, two-car crash was briefly blocking two lanes. everything off to the left shoulder now. we had injuries involved there. a bit of a delay as well.

mass transit, san francisco bay ferry vallejo, mechanical issues. departure 6:00 a.m. and 7:15 departure could be delayed up to 25 minutes. breaking news from orange can, florida. check out this stunning live shot. you can see on the left side of your screen that is a school bus. and as we look around, the yard went through a home, into a fence, and into a swimming pool. nine children were on board when the bus took a nose dive after it was involved in a crash with a jeep according to our orlando sister station wftv. the driver of the jeep swerved to avoid a dead cat on the road, leading to the crash. it sent the bus through a fence and into a swimming pool. hopefully we'll get a look at that. none of the children on board the bus were injured. but the driver in the jeep did

to 36 counts of manslaughter. but the judge shocked him and rejected the plea deal after listening to victims' family members tuesday. the judge didn't think he showed enough remorse. he rented and hosted the party two years ago. it was so full of art and furniture, victims had trouble finding the exit. today's hearing will be about l alme almena. both men are in jail and have been since june of l.th newsroo hollyfield, abc 7 news. amy, thank you. this morning we are hearing from first lady melania trump and what she has revealed in an exclusive interview with abc news. she claimed she was the most bullied person in the world.
