hour. right now the winds not an issue. cool temperatures, though. 48 novato. 51 in fremont. your forecast calls for temperatures to climb into the 70s and 80s. this is your sunday planner. with numbers still in the 60s at the coast with the fog, the winds though, certainly an issue for the day today. we'll clock them with the accuweather seven day forecast. matt? >> thanks, lisa. bone dry conditions, low humidity and strong winds putting firefighters on high alert. pg & e putting bay area counties on alert. abc 7 news reporter cornell barnard has the story from the east bay. >> pretty cool, huh? >> kids and parents touring an open house of hayward fire station number 2. it just reopened after a seismic retrofit. just in time. >> i look at all the dry areas that i see around. >> this is a very unstable atmosphere for us. >> red flag fire danger making firefighters uneasy.

control in solano county. they'll be ready to go again if fire breaks out. in concord, cornell barnard, abc 7 news. a new drone video reveals the widespread devastation from hurricane michael. this is in mexico beach in florida where most of the town has been destroyed. there are fears that number will climb much higher. teams of rescue workers are on the ground looking for people trapped in the rubble. they've told us they've never seen damage quite like this before. >> the massive cleanup and search and rescue efforts after hurricane michael made landfall in mexico beach. these are the before and after of the devastation. entire neighborhoods leveled. >> everybody and their jobs. >> the devastation, like a bomb went off here. >> gail lost her husband when a tree fell on their home. the storm preventing first responders from getting there in time. >> this was a freight train coming at us.

provisions. it would change the law so it can be amended or repealed by voters. proponents of the law say it makes it too hard to market conditions. prop k is safeguarding a -- california senator camilla harris is add to go speculation about a potential run for president in 2020. she's making her first campaign trip to iowa before election day of the she'll visit the state october 22nd and 23rd. another early primary state and to battleground state wisconsin. harris said she will seriously take a look at 2020 after the november midterms. if you need help with the propositions in local rises, we have you covered. go to abc7news.com and find the complete list. we also have profiles of some of the candidates. a man is dead after crashing his car into a san mateo home. it happened last night. the man was behind the wheel of a truck. firefighters say he had a

medical problem just before the crash causing him to lose control. it's unclear if a medical issue or the crash killed him. fire crews helped to make sure the house was stable and safe. san francisco mayor london breed is offering to get involved in offering striking hotel workers reaching a deal with marriott. that strike in the second week. it's part of a nationwide walkout against marriott. abc 7 news reporter tells us more. >> picketers going strong outside marriott hotels around san francisco. this video given to us by the union showed 41 people being arrested friday night while igrriottlikeigafetyseriom forcoract. >> server has been with marriott 30 years. >> marriott refuse toss maintain our benefits. what they're doing is proposing

a short shift of three hours so how will we even qualify for benefits with a three-hour shift? >> some workers claim to work multiple jobs to make ends meet or would like to but can't because of the hotel's scheduling. >> marriott would come back to the table and talk to us. >> the protests haven't come without headaches. erin says she can hear it from her room. >> room service isn't running. the housekeeping is mediocre at best. fedex is not shipping out packages which was an impact for us. >> housekeeping for rewards points. >> hope that they really tho have ea employees. and detroit, negotiations aren't going well. >> marriott clearly didn't take us seriously in either instance.

it's sad they want to continue the strike. >>? downtown san francisco, abc 7 news. workers at ucsf planning to go on strike. they represent thousands of patient care technical workers announce the walkout will last for three days starting october 23rd. this happened once before in may. ucsf will reschedule appointment but says the emergency department will remain open. lisa, we're talking about cool temperatures this morning. but the red flag warning in effect. >> we'll climb another 35 or so degrees for this afternoon with a warm day on the way. exploratorium camera, 55 degrees downtown. 49 in livermore. also in pacifica. certainly a cool start with the gray skies. we'll see the sunshine today. but boy, those winds, they are certainly going to be gusty. we'll watch them for you and tell you how strong they'll be in a few minutes. also next, it has been a

together, we're building a better california. theat lowe's we have allour carpthe latest floor styles for any room at the prices you'll love. many small business owners in san francisco want the city to help them make up for lost income when a ban on selling flavor tobacco products kicks in. backers of the law say it will prevent young people from using tobacco. the ban began in january. sommer chants want the city to reduce the fees they're charged or be a bowed to sell cannabis. the presidio will have a chance to relive one of the most emotionally charged episodes of the vietnam war. it happened here in the bay area.

the men who participated in it paid a steep price. here's dan ashley with the details. >> keith mathers still remembers that sound half a century later. in 1968 the stockade at san francisco's presidio was his home. >> you were in here. they didn't come get you. >> mather joined the growing ranks of american soldiers protesting the vietnam war. historians say the military was taking notice. >> 1968 there's about one soldier every three minutes going awol. >> many taken into custody in california were crowded into the stockade overlooking the golden gate bridge. clashes with guards grew more heated until a fateful incident that triggered the presidio muti mutiny. >> the reason it came about is because richard bunch got shot and killed. he was one of us. >> he says the 19-year-old soldier was having mental health

issues. one day as he was running away from a guard, he was shot in the back. by the next day, thousands of protesters swarmed the gates. >> tensions were so high that more than two dozen stockade prisoners, including keith mather decided to stage a demonstration of their own. a protest that earned them the presidio 27. they broke ranks and refuse today fallout for a work detail. instead, they sat in a circle on the grass and read out a list of demands. >> the mutiny act. we sang to drowned out our captain so he couldn't hear. evidently, that didn't work in our court marshals. >> the first three trials that resulted in sentences were 14, 15 and 16 years. >> 1960s defense attorney agrees with historians who believe

highly publicized trials and sentences were meant to send a message to the ranks. >> it was a catalyzing effect. it was pretty early in the resistan resistance. >> officials were concerned they were losing army. they were losing control of the military. >> mather managed to escape from the presidio stockade, eventually spending more than a decade in canada. a half a century later, the struggle of the presidio 27 is enshrined in an exhibit at the former officer's club. richard bunch's name can still be seen carved into the wall of a cell. >> worth it? >> yeah. absolutely. i wouldn't turn the clock back and try to change it. i wish there would have been more guys involved with us. >> dan ashley, a news. today the presidio will be offering a program on the presidio mutiny free to the public. today is the last day for the half moon bay art and pumpkin festival.

yesterday the parade was held, costume and pie eating contests. less competitive visitors enjoyed craft, food and drink and four stages of entertainment. it's also open today from 9:00 to 5:00. admission is free. everyone, good sunday morning. here's a look at live doppler 7. the fog has really filled in overnight. there's plenty of it. visibility is reduced around the bay and moved into oakland and hayward. een into mountain view this morning. certainly a gray and cool start with numbers in the 40s in the north bay dropping to the low 50s from fremont. 56 in hayward. it's 53 in san jose. 55 downtown. 51 in napa. a red flag warning is under way despite the visibility issues with the fog here. the relative humidity up pretty high with a mile and a half, 1.25 miles. 7 miles in petaluma and 8 miles

towards hhayward. it is gray outside. another day in the 60s downtown. it was 64 yesterday. the average high is 70 this time of year. even with the offshore wind, we're going to keep the numbers i the 60s. in san francisco. cool with morning fog. through 12:00 p.m., elevated fire danger. east bay hills. santa clara county, we'll see the winds kick up. it's all along the shoreline making its way through the bay. as we go through about 2:00, 3:00 in the afternoon, it pulls along the coast. we have the low clouds and the fog. it's going to be an interesting day as the winds get going, the upper elevations work their way down to the surface and we have the low clouds and fog at the coast. relative humidity is anywhere from about 13% in cloverdale to 96% in san francisco. this is when we had the highest

level in the morning. 2:00, 3:00 this afternoon, already down to 11%. fairfield and napa. 52% in hayward. closer to the water, we do recover and keep relative humidity up for most of the morning hours. but then by 5:00 tomorrow morning, we've gone through the night and had the gusty offshore winds and look, we're only at 9% in napa. this relative humidity combines with the dry offshore winds and the warmer temperatures creating certainly that recipe of concern. here's a look at the winds ramping up throughout the day. 2:00 this afternoon from calistoga to napa, 20, 25 mile an hour winds. as the colors get going, you'll see the stronger winds push in by 9:00, 10:00, 11:00 tonight. 48 miles an hour by cloverdale. it continues through the early morning hours into monday. 20 to 40 miles an hour from napa over into discovery bay and then by 6:00 monday morning, we still have those breezy winds.

the low relative humidity and then finally by about noontime on monday, we're looking at those winds dialing back. for today, it's going to be warm in the inland valleys. talking about low to mid-80s here. 78 in palo alto. 72 in san francisco. look at numbers tonight. nice and cool with the return of some of the fog. but boy, those days are getting shorter. cool off quickly. the accuweather seven-day forecast. 60s, 70s. download the accuweather app and we'll be almost as warm inland tomorrow. we're closer to average. notice, it has a nice spread the rest of the week. 60s, 70s and 80s with the flow from the ocean after tomorrow. >> thank you, lisa. abc's new brand local issues sharing inspiring stories called more in common. meet the teacher who is deaf and blind and bringing communities together through dance. >> i'm karen. i'm a teacher of -- i happen to

saving people money on car insurance. over the summer, we told you about a homeless man in oakland named drew. you may remember his belongings were tossed into lake merritt by a frustrated jogger. the community quickly came together to try to find a drew an apartment. more than $14,000 has been raised so far. drew is still homeless and still living under the pergola at lake merritt. we asked reporter lyanne melendez to look into this. >> by now, we thought drew would be getting the help he needs. there he was waking up when we found him under the pergola at lake merritt. what about the efforts to find you a home? >> i'm done.

i own a home. >> you own a home? >> yes. >> it was this cell phone video of a jogger throwing his belongings in the lake that prompted some in this oakland community to help find drew a home. to date, that go fund me effort brought in more than $14,000. donors started complaining after noticing that drew was still homeless asking, can someone please update and i'm starting to think you guys just straight up stole our money. one of the two people in charge of collecting this money finally responded, saying we were able to use the money to get drew housing. but he has refused this offer several times. he does not have an i.d. or bank account and we will not be giving him the money in cash. so we will be donating the money to local homeless rights organizations and give people the option of a refund. a few people who see drew on a regular basis say we have to stop throwing money at problems we can't solve. >> i mean, if those are his wishes, let him be. but at the same time, if you donate money, you want to know

yesterday abc 7 news was at jack london square for tours of the tall ship lady washington. through today visitors can experience maritime history by taking a tour for a small donation to the floating museum. she's a full-scale replica of the american vessel to make landfall on the west coast back in 1788 and the first american merchant ship to trade in honolulu, hong kong and japan. lisa is here. we've got the cool temperatures this morning. that's changing. >> that is changing. it's going to be interesting, though. the fog isn't going to totally clear the coast. it will be one of those days where we have the microclimates, but also the gusty offshore wind and warm temperatures inland. so from the emeryville camera, it's 57 degrees in oakland. thilght, tomorrow.d relative humidity drops. those winds could be gusting up to 50 and 60 miles an hour.

bay hills. wait until you see those. these are the actual general winds around the bay. as we look at the golden gate bridge, the visibility looks good as the deck has climbed to 2,000 feet, the fog. not an issue pretty low down. it is a great start. temperatures, though, have allowed for the numbers to not drop as far as they were yesterday. 2 to 6 degrees warmer here in the north bay. 4 degrees warmer in palo alto. the numbers look like this. 40s and 50s. 48 in novato and pacifica. 56 in hayward. livermore at 49. 52 in san jose. feel pretty typical out there. fog to petaluma. this will pull back. it's going to pull back from the coast for a time. but it's not totally going to go away. so we will look for that. we just lost that camera. we are looking at the cool conditions with the fog. the elevated fire danger in the hills. as we look at the amount of fog,
