from entering his own apartment building. why she says she did nothing wrong. also, roseanne responds overnight to the way her character was killed off on "the conners." and the american city with the best slice of pizza. see if you agree with the new survey results. good wednesday morning, everyone. we begin with new reporting overnight that could escalate a diplomatic crisis between the u.s. and saudi arabia. >> published reports are now connecting the saudi royal family to the suspects in the disappearance of "washington post" columnist jamal khashoggi if -- in istanbul. the bombshell comes as mike pompeo arrives in turkey after meeting with the saudi king and crown prince. >> and it comes just hours after president trump defended saudi arabia calling this a case of guilty until proven innocent.

abc's molly hunter is in istanbul tracking the overnight developments. good morning, molly. >> reporter: kenneth, stephanie, hey, good morning. that's right. after yesterday no one should have any doubt how impoant this u.s. relationship is to the saudis or the lengths to which president trump will go to protect it. with secretary of state mike pompeo here in turkey meeting with president erdogan, the turks are hoping that he's coming with some answers from the saudis. this morning, new details on the alleged hit squad accused in the disappearance of writer jamal khashoggi. "the washington post" obtained passport scans from turkish officials and "the new york times" reports at least three of the suspects served as part of the crown prince's security team. one of those has been pictured traveling with the crown prince. but president trump warned against rushing to conclusions. >> and it depends whether or not the king or the crown prince knew about it in my opinion, number one, what happened, but whether or not they knew aboew wod ad >> rorte he peated multiple times that the king and crown prince personally denied

any knowledge of the attack. and secretary of state mike pompeo left riyadh this morning after meeting with king salman and crown prince mohammed bin salman. >> in each of those meetings i stressed the importance of them conducting a complete investigation into the disappearance of jamal khashoggi. and they made a commitment and said they would do that. >> reporter: all smiles secretary pompeo thanked the saudis for a thorough and timely investigation, but it's been two weeks and critics don't agree. khashoggi, a "washington post" columnist, was last seen walking into the saudi consulate in istanbul on october 2nd. according to reports in "the times" and "the post," anonymous officials say they have audio and video proof that khashoggi was killed inside the consulate and according to the ap, anonymous turkish officials say the forensics team also found, quote, certain evidence khashoggi was killed there even after a cleaning crew was seen arriving at the building monday. a source now tells abc news that responsibility for khashoggi's

death reportedly as part of an interrogation gone wrong. but close allies of president trump now hinting at harsh sanctions against saudi arabia. >> i know what i'm going to do. we're going to sanction the hell out of saudi arabia. >> reporter: all this as the trump administration reaffirms its reliance on saudi arabia to help contain iran. >> saudi arabia is our partner. they're our ally against iran and against missiles and against what they're doing trying to take over the middle east. >> reporter: now, guys, this morning we're actually outside the consulate residence. that's the flag right there. turkish investigators were hoping to get into the building last night to continue the investigation. they were blocked from entry so they're hoping some deal is able to get them in to continue that investigation today. kenneth, stephanie. >> the president there still defending u.s. relations with saudi arabia. molly hunter in istanbul, thank you so much. president trump is threatening to cut off aid to central american countries whose citizens are migrating

too the u.s. in large numbers. he issued the warning after he saw this caravan. they've already crossed into guatemala. the president tweeted, we have today informed the countries of honduras, guatemala and el salvador that if they allow their citizens or others to journey through their borders and up to the united states with the intention of entering our country illegally, all payments made to them will stop. the governor of texas has declared a disaster in 18 counties because of a flood emergency. and more rain is falling today. the llano river northwest of austin swept away this highway bridge and the river is already more than ten feet above flood stage and could rise to a record high. one man in the small city of cottonwood shores found fish on his lawn as the river rose to the corners of his foundation. >> i think his house probably saved my house. the water was splitting. you can see how it's flowing here. >> yeah. >> and it's coming up from the

a beachgoer who helped in the rescue was treated for exhaustion. also in florida, a big scare for the driver of this car when a sheet of plywood went flying and sliced through the windshield. the wood had fallen off a truck on interstate 95. the truck driver got a ticket for not securing the crowd. a wisconsin town has come together to pray for a missing 13-year-old as the nationwide search for her intensifies. dozens gathered at a church in barron holding a vigil for jayme closs and remembering her parents. closs vanished monday, the same day her mother and father were found dead in their home. the search has now expanded nationwide with authorities receiving more than 200 tips. a possible sighting of closs in miami yesterday has now been ruled out and deemed not credible. an investigation into a deadly shooting by a city official in florida is expected to wrap up by the end of the week. investigators are deciding whether to file charges against michael dunn. the lakeland city commissioner is seen on video shooting a man

suspected of shoplifting a hatchet. dunn claims he felt threatened. the case is once again focusing attention on florida's controversial stand your ground law. in business news, the restaurant industry is taking a hit. a new survey finds fewer people are eating out these days compared to a few years ago. analysts blame higher restaurant prices. they also blame the aging population saying more baby boomers are opting to eat at home. a bear in boulder, colorado, had to leave home to find food and look what he did after the recent snowstorm. he skillfully managed to open the door of this car as he hunted for a snack. he eventually opened three doors before wandering off. wildlife officials are reminding people not to keep food in their cars. the bear just wanted to get some grub. >> how did he know how to open the door? >> and does he have opposing thumbs, those bears? >> he got in there though. >> yes. all right, coming up, a late night marathon in the major

the impact of the flight being being rocketed away from a failing second stage. what was that like? colonel nick hague was the astronaut on board. we had a chance to talk to him. they said you saw the light. but did you feel something that was wrong at separation from the first stage to the second stage? what was your first indication? >> the automated response from the rescue system that takes us away from the rocket is so fast that our first indication was the violent, you know, side-to-side motion and then being thrusted away from the rocket. that was our indication that something was not quite right and in the middle of all of that, we have the alarm and the light that's flashing inside the capsule saying that we've had an emergency with the rocket or a booster failure. >> you're disappointed i'm not speaking to you in space. >> absolutely. you spend -- i've been here at nasa five years. i have spent two years dedicated

to training for the mission on orbit. i can tell you that i feel great now and that when nasa wants me to fly, i'm ready to go. >> reporter: astronaut nick hague was actually supposed to be on a space walk this week so he is back in houston now and in essence at the back of the line. he's waiting for nasa to tell him when he might fly again. i'm david kerley in washington. federal health officials say a polio-like illness affecting mostly children has spread to 22 states. the number of confirmed cases has spiked to 62, and doctors have yet to find a cause. the condition is called acute flaccid myelitis and can lead to muscle weakness and paralysis. most kids make a full recovery but one child has died. the cdc's advice to parents is to do what you normally do to prevent serious illness, make sure your kids wash their hands and up to date on that vaccines as well. we're now hearing from a woman involved in a confrontation in st. louis.

9:30 when police got the call. officers say an officer with u.s. park police fired a gun. san francisco police is the lead agency on this. they will be the ones conducting this investigation. they say it is still early. they are still gathering details. that is all they have released at this point. we don't know anything about who or why this happened or what led up to this shooting. they are asking anyone with any information to please come forward and give them a call. reporting live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> thanks, amy. you might remember two years ago in august 2016, 20-year-old kelvin riley was shot in the chest and killed at aquatic park. he was walking around at night playing pokemon go. that murder is still unsolved despite a reward of $100,000.
