co-workers rush to help in free month after 1,000 pounds of rebar falls right on top of three construction workers, critically injuring one of them. thanks for joining us. >> all three workers had to be taken to the hospital. cal osha is investigating the accident that handed this morning at a tithe nesite near . carlos has the latest from the scene. >> reporter: the builder tells me two of the condition. so his condition has improved from this morning when the accident happened. but i do want to give you a better idea, a better understanding of what exactly fell on these men. now, it is one of these vertical structures, this rebar that fell. as you mentioned, weighing 1,000 pounds each and injuring all

three men. video and pictures taken moments after the collapse of a rebar tower show the injured men on the ground after falling 20 feet. co-workers worked tirelileles t remove the steel structure that fell. this supervise or told us in span spanish that co-workers rushed to save them. one was injured critically, two others suffered moderate injuries. from the weight of those individuals on that tower, the tower itself chanced which is approximately about 1,000 pounds of rebar. >> reporter: all three men were taken to nearby hospitals. the rest of the workers were sent home for the day as inspectors with cal osha arrived to the construction site. they're investigating the builder to determine the cause of the accident and check if workplace safety regulations were violated. this is the second work site injury queens land is being investigated for. cal osha says a worker fell from the second floor at a different

fremont site this past summer. that investigation is still ongoing. the focus now is to determine if the been prevented. >> they were clipped in per rules. >> reporter: again, two of the three men are now out of the hospital. the third is in stable condition. he did suffer some broken ribs, but is expected to return to work in the next few weeks. now, the developer is doing their own internal investigation, this of course is separate than the investigation that cal osha inspectors are performing. but they tell me that they could issue citations depending if there were any violations in terms of what the workers were doing out here. reporting live from free month omonth -- free month. and there is a new problem for the agency that oversees the

transcript o bay terminal. they say that they are suing for $150 million. they accuse the tjpa of mismanagement saying that tjpa's designs were filled with errors, and delivered after deadline. tjpa says many accusations involve delays a that happened before the commitment to complete construction on time. tjpa is also dealing with repairs to the transit center after two racks were found in support beams last month. > potholes are costing a lot of money. we have the worst roads in the entire country according to a new study. leslie blirinkley is live with that story. >> reporter: well, this is about the whole bay area even antioch tops the list for mid-sized cities when it comes to potholes. it seems that the bay area is quickly becoming synonymous with beaches, bridges, cable cars and

potholes. a drive up herald street will rattle your teeth and shake your bones to say nothing of the damage being done to your car as it is pounded by the pavement. no surprise that the transportation resernlgd aarch portal in washington, d.c. just named bay area roads as the worst in the nation. >> in the bay area, they have the roughest roads in the country. 71% of major roads in the san francisco and oakland area are in poor condition. >> that is probably not new to the drivers on them every day. >> potholes? oh, man, it is terrible. like my tires here, it is messing up my car. >> reporter: the study estimated the bumpy roads cost drivers over $1,000 a year in repairs and tires. >> when you crack a wheel, you really can't fix it, you have to replace the whole wheel. so it can get very expensive. >> reporter: here attires direct, they are used to dealing with pothole damage. ramon drives a lot for work.

in-depth look at the problems with the roads and how we compare to the rest of the country. a new pilot program to help clean up oakland streets and curb illegal dumping was announced today. >> dumping in our neighborhoods is horrific. >> it is an environmental issue, a public safety issue, a public health issue. >> oakland supervisor and the mayor made the announcement, a block party will be thrown the last saturday of every month for people to get rid of large items for free. and citizens will have charge over keeping a specific part of the city clean. it is not just the city that wants an end to illegal dumping. local business owners are also fed up. >> it happens all the time. i even called the city and they have said, well, we are overwhelmed. they can't do nothing about it. >> at three recent block parties, around 1200 people dropped off a total of more than 157 tons waste.

this has been another sunny and mild to warm day around the bay area. here is live doppler 7. there is some fog forming near the coastline. it is 59 degrees here in san francisco, dropping down from earlier readings in the 60s. but look at the inland areas, we have upper 70s to low 80s right now. so pretty warm. but i'll take you to the overnight hours, you will see how the temperatures will drop into the low 50s in many locations as the fog reaches across the bay. and a little bit into a few inland locations. so 5:00 tomorrowxhurt -- commuters will have reduced visibility in some spots, but things will warm up tomorrow. and i'll have the forecast shortly. we're less than three weeks away from election day. a state senator is trying to unseat dianne feinstein. de leon and fine tieinstein met for a conversation where they staked out their positions on the issues. >> reporter: a conversation

specifics had with their attorneys. he recorded them? n. -- recorded them in an enter vie room. rous still is rousrous still is due back in court on october 31. a man shot by police last night was armed with a handgun. the shooting happened at 9:30 near the municipal pier. the man shot suffered life-threatening injuries and is in the hospital. his name hasn't been released. the u.s. park police officer who shot him was not hurt. investigators say another person was also arrested. police say they found another gun that had a high capacity magazine as well. san francisco police and the district attorney's office are investigating that shooting. today marks the 29th anniversary of a low made plplpl earthquake where 3700 were

tam looking down on to the city and parts of the coastline. temperatures right now up north, santa rosa, napa, both at 72. low 80s at novato, concord, livermore. and we have some fog liurking offshore. and we'll see cooling fog near the coast and bay overnight. we'll have warmer afternoons through saturday. and then it will start to cool done a little bit on sunday with further cooling early next week. forecast animation starting at 7:00 this evening shows the advancing low clouds and fog out over the bay. overnight we'll see some of it pushing into inland areas, but not too far inland. 5:00 tomorrow morning, don't expect the fog to be very denies or widespread, but it could slow down early morning commuting traffic just a bit. and then we'll see the low clouds and fog pull williing ba. and in the afternoon, pulling away from the coastline. so some coastal areas will experience some sunshine

tomorrow. overnight conditions with fog out over the bay and locally inland, low temperatures mainly in the low to mid-40s inland. so pretty cool there. but the closer you get to the bay, the higher those low temperatures will be upper 40s to about 50 degrees. and then tomorrow's highs will range from about 66 at half moon bay to 71 at san francisco. 76 in oakland. inland east bay, low to mid-80s. north bay, low 80s. cloverdale, 85. and we'll see 80 down south at san jose. here is the 7 day forecast. notice the warm-up friday and saturday, inland highs in the mid to upper 80s. maybe one or two locations that will come close to 90 inland on saturday. and then cooling begins on sunday. mainly low 80s inland. mid-70s around the bay. and further cooling next week back to a more typical range for this time of the year. do you know what is in your burger? a new report says most chains have not made a commitment to restrict antibiotics in their

the u.s. coast guard and noaa went all out who save a whale that was found entangled in debris. the coast guard sent out these photos. a cutter helped set up a safety zone around the whale and then a crew cut the debris off of that whale. another coast guard helicopter watched from above. and it swam away presumably happily. new anti-by on the tick anty says that shake shack and burger-fi got a grades, everybody else got a d minus or f. researchers topped the judge 25 fast food restaurants based on u.s. sales.

de leon discussed goals at a public forum today. it wasn't called a debate and they weren't allowed to address each other. polls give feinstein a double digit lead, but the state democratic party is supporting de leon. senators are calling for transparency regarding donald trump's financial ties to saudi arabia. saudi arabia claims that the journalist left the consulate unharmed. molly hunter has the story. >> reporter: today more grisly details from turkish officials about what they say was the apparently barbaric death of journalist jamal khashoggi. an anonymous turkish official tells the "new york times" an audio recording shows that he was dead within minutes. abc news has not seen or heard any of the reported video or audio, and the president says he hasn't either. >> we've asked for it 23 it it

election meddling and possible collusion with president trump are expected to be released in just a few weeks. officials who asked to remain anonymous spoke to the "chicago tribune" and they say robert mueller will release his finding shortly after the november election. the findings will apparently include whether there were clear incidents of collusion and whether the president did anything considered obstruction of justice. it is unclear if those findings would be made public. today melania trump saw some of the youngest victims of the opoid crisis. >> in athere are few things har to bear than seeing a newborn suffer and i'm anxious do all that i can to help shine a light on this epidemic. >> the first lady toured the intensive care unit at a philadelphia hospital. she was there to learn how they treat newborns suffering from opiate withdrawal. she also met with mothers who are in an addiction treatment program that allows them to have their kids with them. they began her speech in

philadelphia today by apologizing for a little delay. she had to take a second flight to the city today. her first flight was forced to return to a washington military base because of smoke in the cabin. video shows her and other passengers getting off the plane. tv reporters traveling with the first lady say they were only about 10 minutes into the flight. everyone was okay. it is not clear what caused the smoke. president trump is warning california to clean up its forests. at a cabinet meeting today, he said if not, the state is risking more wildfires and losing federal fire fighting money. >> i say to the governor or whoever is going to be the governor of california, better get your act together. because california, we're not going to continue to pay the kind of money that we're paying because of fires that should never be to the extent. >> mr. trump says california is not doing enough to remove dead trees. scientists say climate change and rising temperatures are making the wildfires worse. mr. trump also said our fires are costing the government

there is urgent health warning about a mysterious illness called afm. it starts out like a common cold but can lead to paralysis in some cases. california public health officials say five suspected cases have been identified in the state. four of them in the last two months. maggie rulli has the latest. >> reporter: a mystery illness paralyzing children spridieadin across the country. >> a typical 2-year-old. went in for an stray and couldn't hold her head up. >> reporter: it is a rare illness with polio-like symptoms that primarily strikes children. >> it is different than anything either that i've come across. >> reporter: the cdc is taking the unusual step of warning the public after noticing spikes in

achlts a afm. and they say we could be seeing a similar outbreak with 62 confirmed cases in 22 states. the average age, just foyur yeas old. >> despite lots of investigation, we don't know where afm comes from. and we don't know what is causing it. >> reporter: federal officials say while it is still rare, its spread is concerning so they are urging parents to look for any sudden weakness in their children's arms or legs. signs this mom noticed. she says that zoey is doing better, but it isn't known if she will make a furecovery. >> still no stwrenk rength stren her arm. >> your kid could just have a cold. but make sure. >> reporter: doctors still couldn't have an effective

daughter would never say anything bad about your daughter. and then everybody gets in to a massive fight. what do you recommend if you happen to be on the wrong he said of the si-- end of the cyb bullying? >> i recommend that parents should get involved. maybe older they don't need to. but always approach it as though this is an ecosystem in which all of our kids are enter ankts i -- interacting. so all may be playing a role. so let's just approach this for a place for our kids to learn and become the good digital citizens that they need to be. it is a great teachable moment for parents and kids. don't approach it as accusatory, approach it as it is a problem we need to solve together. >> so a little late for that. in our case. but in general, isn't this just like whether you are online or off line, being a good human basically? >> that's right. but there are some rules that are different in the online world. >> what are they? >> a lot of times kids feel

another announcement, the company has signed a deal for a new factory in china, it will be built on a more than 800,000 square foot space in china. it is the first factory outside the u.s. the deal doubles the size of their global manufacturing and will also help lower the price of tesla cars sold in china's fast glowing market. michael finney receives hundreds of consumer complaints every week. and every one of them is read and dealt with. >> and michael has a few of those complaints and how they were solved. >> these are some interesting ones. first comes from karen in oakland. you see, she bought an outdoor gas fire pit made by bond manufacturing. it has trouble staying lit. the fire pit was still under warranty, so the company sent her a trouble-shooting guide and replacement part, but the wrong part arrived. karen called 7 on your side and we contacted bond and it allowed karen to choose between a fix or her money back. karen chose the $500 refund.
