now from abc 7, live breaking news.f coord tonight. a fire in a natural gas pipeline owned by chevron. >> evacuations have just been ordered. this is video of the scene just in. >> the pipeline is running along train tracks in the bay point area. law enforcement has arrived on scene to assist, if needed, to evacuate any homes. >> fire officials have shut down rail in both directions and they're doing their best to get a handle on the situation. >> we got a pipeline that runs parallel to the train tracks that has a small fire on it right now. so we're going to work on what we've got to do to mitigate incident. >> we're told chevron representatives are on scene and

"the post" published his latest column and he points to the ongoing abuses against journalists by governments in the middle east. his colleagues in the bay area spoke with abc 7 about the deepening mystery and she's live with the story. >> reporter: dan, jamal khashoggi has led seminars and participated in panels at

stanford university at least twice in 2017. his colleagues tell us they put their emotions aside to some extent and are now focusing on the analytical -- or on the -- i'm sorry, focused analytically on the situation i should say. this column, published wednesday by "the washington post" is the last piece of written work by jamal khashoggi. the journalist was regarded as an intellectual and advocate of political reform across the globe and here in the bay area. >> what we've been deprived of is a very keen and smart analyst and a moral voice for a political vision for gradual liberalizing reform. >> reporter: the senior fellow at the hoover institution at stanford university. >> i ohe most egregious crimes committed by any authoritarian ruler

giving in turk inofficials claimed that khashoggi was murdered by saudi operatives. an allegation the saudi government has denied. >> we're waiting for the investigation to be completed. they promised that they would achieve that. >> reporter: a turkish newspaper published pictures of 15 saudis that were in istanbul the day khashoggi went missing. several of the suspects have tied to the saudi crown prince. now, lori diamond is moderating a talk thursday by the hoover institution in washington, d.c., and among the speakers is a former u.s. ambassador to saudi arabia, and khashoggi's former editor at "the washington post." >> amanda, thank you. in the south bay, a list of san jose priests accused of molesting children will be released tomorrow morning.

the san jose archdiocese says the list includes only credible accusations. this comes after a pennsylvania grand jury accused the catholic church of covering up abuse by more than 300 polices are more than a thousand victims. three construction workers are recovering after a rebar tower fell on them at a construction site. all three went to the hospital, one in critical condition. they were strapped to the structure when it collapsed and fell about 20 feet. firefighters say the rebar weighedabweigh ed about 1,000 pounds. a man in san jose is accused of luringgirl. 20-year-old es that van is accused of attacking the girl on sunday. police arrested him today in san jose. he faces four charges.nt scootee now back on san francisco's streets. but not everyone is a courtesy

rider. as you can see, they've been parked illegally, blocking sidewalks or toppled all together. kate larson is live along the embarcadero tonight. parking appears to be a challenge for a lot of riders. some people not following the rules. >> reporter: it does. the rules, all of them r a challenge, and the reason i'm talking and not ride thing scooter is because i'm on a sidewalk and that's against one of the rules. parking has been hit or miss this week. but there are consequences for the scooter companies and the riders who don't follow the rules. when scooters first landed on san francisco streets in march, the riders parked with impunity. they were thrown into trees, strewn across sidewalks and left broken in bushes. monday, allow companies to relunder wprogram.

we showed marsha of skip scooters parked incorrectly on streets wednesday morning. she says educating the riders is priority. do you know how to park the scooters? >> not really. >> reporter: but users may put the brakes on rider's ed. >> when i get there, i just leave it on the side of the street that's one of the main problems, though. >> reporter: are you willing to learn how to park them and read the rules? >> we're kind of -- i don't think i would take my time to do that. >> we do follow up on complaints. >> reporter: paul groves says the agency has been fielding complaint calls this week and says they have the authority to fine skip and scoot. >> $100 for the first offense, $200 for the seconds $500 for each additional complaint. >> reporter: so could be looking for thousands worth of fines this week. >> main thing is we want to make sure the companies are getting the information that there are complaints, and then help their

salmonella outbreak in 29 states, including california. the centers for disease control says 92 people got sick after having contact with uncooked chicken. a supplier is still unknown, with the strain showing up in products, including pet food, ground and whole chicken and live chickens. adding to the concern, the particular strain of salmonella is resistant to a number of antibiotics. this comes as no surprise to many bay area drivers, we have the worst roads in the nation, according to a newlie brinkley the toll they're taking on our cars. >> reporter: a drive herenes. se suretatirch a portal wng it'sn. >> i the bay area,ughest roads .

71% of major roads in the san francisco and oakland area are in poor condition. so that's probably not news to the drivers who are on them every day. >> what sit like when you drive over them? >> when i drive over them? like i want to say like it's real bad, real bad. real, real bad. it damaged my car. >> reporter: a study estimated the bumpy roads cost drivers over $1,000 a year in repairs, and tires. >> tires are definitely damaged by the bad roads, and it causes a lot more problems as far as your rims and throwing off your alignment from the potholes. >> reporter: here they're used to dealing with pothole damage. ramone lopez says some roads make you feel like you're in a third world country. he believes potholes cause accidents. >> there's potholes everywhere. there's debris, and sometimes you just have to pay a lot of attention on where you're going

the coast, but in the bayshoreline area, as well. taking a look at a wider picture, we are tracking a system, this system is not going to bring us rain, but kicking up the surf, so we have swell heights building. currently, between nine and ten feet in the pacific ocean. some of the northwest swell heading in our direction, which means risk of rip currents and sneaker waves. so that's the first significant northwest swell of the season, just in case you're heading to the beach. temperatures right now in the 50s for just about everyone. as we head towards the overnight areas, 48 in nevado. the fog is going to be around at the coast and near the bay in the morning. a little warmer the next two days. and a cooler pattern on sunday. a gorgeous live picture right now from our emeryville camera as we look back towards san francisco. allow that extra time for the commute and don't forget to bundle up.
