road, two locations that individuals in bay point who live there know these areas and are able to sp we recognize thae probably ha means of transportation to leave the area. we contacted tri delta transit. they responded with three large buses and literally went down every street with us and assisted in evacuating individuals with no means of transportation. we v recognize we have nonambulatory individuals. con fire were able to assist the individuals that needed medical assistance or any type of assistance out of the area there. we also were able to -- pittsburg p.d. was able to bring their drone team out. that drone is capable of detecting heat source and give temperatures. we utilized that night to fly over the vault and get temperatures to help chevron and con fire determine what was actually going on there were.

currently our shelters are still open. red cross came out and provided necessities to make everybody as comfortable as we could while they were being displaced. short of that, the evacuation order will hold until we get the all clear from chevron. thank you. >> good morning. i'm team lead for the facility that is involved here today. we worked in close collaboration with contra costa fire and contra costa sheriff to address this situation. our number one priority is the community, the people of this community for their safety and the environment. one thing we have done is last night is we implemented the first response protocol with first responders for our assets
6:55 am
to respond and then address is the situation. part of that was to go down the line, start establishing blowdown of the pipeline to purge the pipeline of the natural gas that's in there. we do have an active fire in the vault that's on site that is still on fire. our plan moving forward is to go in and basic live purge the remaining natural gas that's in the pipeline and inject nitrogen into the pipeline which will extinguish the fire. that is our number one priority, to extinguish the fire and get control of the situation. if you guys have any questions, we'll take them now. >> how long is this going to take until we get this danger
6:56 am
mitigated? >> with the purging of the nitrogen that's going into the pipeline will extinguish the fire in the pipeline in the vault itself. it is basically the natural gas that's in the pipeline has been consumed by fire. so basically the release that's happening, it's a small -- relatively small leak. nonetheless, when the fire started, it ignited natural gas from what we believe is a transmitter line that created the release and initiated the fire within the vault. >> you've been watching a news conference from chevron and also from fire officials in contra costa county. 4,000 people evacuated because of the fire threatening a gas line. >> we will carry this live on abc7news.com/live. also on our news app.
