>> breaking news. this is new drone video that still had 4,000 people out of their homes. many of them waiting in shelters as they have all night long. the fix is taking longer than officially expected. it has been an alarming and sleepless night now morning until evacuees wait for the all clear. this is the area around poinsettia avenue. we do have team coverage for you. matt is live for us at an evacuation center. first we go to amy who is in

pitsburg at the command center. >> big progress announced moments ago. they think firefighters will be able to get close to that fire and that vault within the next 30 minutes or so. that is what they have been wanting to here is a little look back at how we got here. it has ban long night and morning for first responders. here is a look at the fire from an infrared camera. the fire is burning inside a vault and one that is full of gas. >> what we have going on here it is sub surface in a concrete vault. we can't really put eyes on it until we extinguish the fire. >> it was sparked bay vegetation fire that started last night. they havspent the

pipeline then they can safely get close to it and inspect it. the process is taking a while. >> the purge of the pipeline continues. that's the pushing the flamable gas, natural gas out with nitrogen. it is continuing. it is taking a little longer than we anticipated. >> he said the pipeline was not in dangerov of exploding. >> no. we are not in any threat of an explosion at this point. >> yet fire officials still want the area evacuated. here is why. >> until that fire is extinguished we are not comfortable that truly there is no chance there could be a catastrophic failure of that larger pipe. so in the abundance of caution for our citizens and our personnel we have chosen to keep the evacuation order in effect.

>> reporter: within the last few minutes they have gotten a look at drone video that was just taken. they feel better about the progress they have made and people will be able to get in there soon and take a look. no one has been hurt. firefighters keep pointing to that when we ask about it. they say no one has been hurt. no property has been abc 7 news. >> thanks for that. woken up by police officers pounding on their doors. thousands racing out of their homes and looking for a warm place to wait. our team coverage continues with matt keller who is live at an evuaonenr. >> ror morning. the red cross shelter is still open. a lot of people are still inside. they are resting up on the cots and trying to make up for sleep they lost overnight. the red cross workers say they

do have lunch on the way. this is very late in the day. a lot of people wanting to go home. this was less than ideal. an estimated 200 bay point residents were sleeping in their cars overnight at the bart station parking lot after being evacuated from their homes. >> the red cross ran out of blankets handing out 150 to people in the cold. workers also had water and coffee available. nothing could take away from the very frightening night for the evaccuees. >> we got out of there. >> i'm cold, hungry and i want to get back in my bed. >> another evacuation acceptabilitier set up at calvary temple church. about 165 people ended up there. some arrived in tears but felt better after being updated. >> we are good. we are good. it could be worse. we are good.

california. the state's major events took part in los angeles city hall. an earthquake early warning system is ready to be used more widely on the west coast. if you have been enjoying tour warmer fall weather mike is saying it could be sticking around through winter. is that true? >> yes. their forecaster just came out with their winter out dchs lolo. it doesn't say when we'll have arctic out dcbreaks. but right now they have us in a better than average chance of above average temperatures across the entire state. the cool weather will be along the gulf coast and into the southeast. it will be system of the wetter areas. near us they weren't so sure. they have a little less confidence. they say we have equal chances of being above, below or average. what is that going to do for the drought? the drought is going to persist.

you can see sky 7 is over the pittsburgh area. it prompted the evacuation order overnight. about 4,000 people out of theirr homes. the grass fire is what started all of this. those folks are waiting do go home. we have applied that onto the ettia avenue, this is the area that's been evacuated. all of these people are out of their homes and waiting for the all clear which right now is taking a little longer than initially predicted. so our reporter is saying that firefighters will be able now to get close to that fire that is in the vault which hopefully means they will be able to put

high pressure. what it is doing, here is the northern branch. notice they bow out and move farther away and then they meet together along the east coast and they are having most of the weather and we have absolutely nothing but sunshine. look at these temperatures. upper 70s to low 80s. you morgan hill at 85 degrees. wait until i show you the picture from santa cruz. it will be 76 this afternoon. 73 to 77 is our spread. we'll be in the mid-to upper 60s. so just a touch warmer than average. we'll have upper 60s with increasing sun shiechblt increasing sunshine. we have already cleared out of all of that fog. along the east bay shore very delightful. as you move into the valleys low to mid-80s. because of cold nights when i r.

here is that gorgeous picture. look at that. there's three, four, people out on the beech. -- beach. as we head through the flexinex hours you can see this. let's talk about the evening hours. we dropped to the 50s and 60s. clear conditions at 8:00. grab coat heading out around midnight. mid-40s to mid-50s through the morning hours. this is the one model that has a chance of sprinkles tuesday night into wednesday morning. thursday then we could see that storm come in. it is coming in quicker but not nearly as widespread for are the greens quite as dark as yesterday. this model shows rain for next week. it is kind of pulling back a little bit on the rains. for sure starting sunday
