abuse, but now i have details on some steps they are taking to tackle the issue. wednesday, september 26, 2:00 p.m. on in the state office building. met to consider how to investigate child sexual abuse in the catholic church. joey was there. >> from talking to them, they've already launched something. >> the question is what. >> i think they've seriously looked into investigating and how they're going to go about doing it. >> he joined two other members of people abused by priests or snap, and special assistant to the attorney general led the meeting. a roster of heavy hitters joining by the head of criminal, the head of sexual crimes.

discriminate against women. in the south bay people are back in their homes tonight after following an explosion. it all happened on moon fowler court this afternoon. >> reporter: it was a long sunday for people in this quiet san jose community. neighbors forced to evacuate from their homes for hours because police say illegal fireworks caused an explosion inside a garage at this home. >> boom. >> really? >> yeah, but it's way louder. >> reporter: that's what he said he heard when playing outside sunday playing on moonflower court. >> went out and didn't see anything, and next thing i know i saw our neighbor and she was coming out of the house because they had seen the smoke. >> reporter: what neighbors didn't realize is that taylor poppin' was already dialing 911. says her boyfriend and his friend were inside the garage handling fireworks.

>> looking into like fireworks and what they do, it's not smart. >> reporter: the two victims were rushed to the hospital with burns and cuts. >> it could be a lot worse. it could be a lot worse. >> reporter: the explosion forced neighbors including a 95-year-old man to evacuate for 4 1/2 hours. >> i think it's a bit much because all he had was fire crackers. but i know that -- i know he's not trying to make any bombs or anything like that. >> police did find additional illegal fireworks inside the garage. rather than transporting them the san jose police fire unit set them off in the backyard of the home, which finally led to the all clear, people returning to their homes and pets left behind. san jose police say it's unclear if the two men involved are facing charges. they say that'll be up to the bomb squad. abc 7 news. a burning rv triggered the evacuation of a store in san francisco this morning. abc 7 was behind the lowes after

flames damaged part of the store's exterior. no one was hurt. the fire department ordered lowes be evacuated for a short time. some of the flames damaged a pg&e transformer and some power lines. investigators think some homeless people might have been living inside that rv. a definition of a gender purely based -- >> it throws out the advances the transgender communty made during the obama administration. >> lillian? >> eric and dion, a memo outlines the trump administration's definition of gender. and it all boils down to what you were born with. it's just a proposal at this point, but the trump administration's objective is clear, narrow the definition of gender. according to a memo obtained by "the new york times," the department of health and human services is spearheading an effort to determine the sex of

today marked the 150th anniversary of an earthquake that caused significant damage across the bay area. abc 7 news was in fremont where people learned to prepare for the next major quake along the hayward fault. 2 million people live near that fault. a magnitude 6.2 earthquake leveled hayward and destroyed buildings in 1868. >> this fault here not only broke during 1868, but ever since then it's been creeping. so this is one of about a dozen faults in the world that's actually moving a little bit at a time. >> the event included hands on activity for children to help them learn about the science of earthquakes. looking ahead to your workweek weather a bit of a roller coaster. >> let's check out your roller coaster weather with drew tuma. >> by the end of the week we're tracking a nice little warmup for the upcoming weekend. live doppler 7 along with stat lite tonight showing you mainly

7:00 in the morning. and cloud cover gradually moving back to the coastline. by 4:00 it's a nice looking day. it's bright, it's sunny, but you'll notice it feels cooler than it did over the weekend with temperatures mainly in the 60s and in the 70s in our warmest spots. only 62 degrees. about 68 in santa rosa. a high of 70 in san jose. about 68 in fremont, 64 in oakland and concord. to up about 74 degrees tomorrow afternoon. i do want to take you to it pacific right now. we are tracking a major hurricane off the southwest coast of mexico. you can see it defined very nicely that symmetric eye. category 4 storm force winds right now. very impressive 155 miles an hour. so we do have hurricane warnings up for part of the coastline. a tropical storm warning is in effect for parts of iarta with this storm likely moving onshore tuesday night into wednesday

morning. it does take it close to the coast with 155 mile per hour winds a category 3 storm. it will likely make landfall as a major hurricane. this is taking you through thursday, we will see spots well over 7 inches of rain. and the national hurricane center does believe some spots could pick up more than a foot of rain from this storm system. back here at home, though, it's calm tomorrow. the accuweather seven-day forecast will show it's a cooler afternoon tomorrow. temperatures dip even more on tuesday. and then we'll do a 180. warming up by thursday, especially friday. but our air quality does go downhill once again. you'll notice by the end of the week the haze returns setting up shop for a warm haze on tap for the weekend. got it all out in the month of october. >> thanks. paula abdul is back on tour.

the 49ers family lost dwight clark in june to als. today the team shared his contributions to the organization that will be seen forever. the 49ers unveiled a larger than life version of the catch from the championship game that launched it team into its super bowl era. dwight clark's widow and his father attended the sarl. they all agreed it's a wonderful way to honor number 87. >> it means a lot to have this statue because it would have meant a lot to him. he would have been so humbled by it, and he would have loved that his fans get to see it, too. >> i think it's great.
