>> reporter: good morning, kendis. just incredible images coming out of mexico. that group of migrants may be hundreds of miles away from the u.s. border, but president trump is using the caravan as a key issue on the campaign trail. this morning, a closer look inside that caravan of central american migrants heading toward the u.s. the migrants, most from honduras saying they are fleeing violence and poverty. over the weekend, they illegally crossed over into mexico from guatemala, coming face to face with an army of federal police, sparking clashes. parents shielded their children. some migrants jumped into the river and swam across. this river of humanity, miles long. thousands of people, so many children. foot sore, walking in intense heat. abc's matt gutman right there when a girl collapsed from a heatstroke. >> no. it's too hot on the floor. >> reporter: the caravan spotting in mexico overnight. >> now they have offered the migrants asylum status here over the past couple of days. they have rejected it. they say they want to keep walking. they are afraid that asylum here

means deportation. >> reporter: president trump on the campaign trail in nevada promising to greet migrants at the u.s./mexico border. >> i will seal off the border before they domestic into this country, and i'll bring out our military. >> reporter: without any proof, the president blaming democrats for the caravan. >> openly inviting millions of illegal aliens to break our laws, violate our borders and overwhelm our nation. the democrats want caravans. they like the caravans. >> reporter: the president has praised mexico for its efforts to control the caravan along with sending troops to the border. the president also threatened to cut off aid to several central american countries and we are told that is only if the caravan continues. janai, kendis? >> our thanks to kenneth moton there. and a new poll finds president trump's approval rating has reached a new high with 47%, now saying they approve of how he is doing husband job. that's three points higher than last month. the president is attending a rally in houston today.

100,000 people have requested tickets, but the venue seats only 18,000. national security adviser john bolton is in moscow beginning two days of nuclear talks. they followed president trump's decision to withdraw from a landmark nuclear weapons treaty signed by ronald reagan. the president says russia has violated the terms of the deal which bans certain intermediate range nuclear missiles. a russian official calls the president's decision a very dangerous step. we turn now to the killing of "the washington post" columnist, jamal khashoggi. a saudi official is offering a new explanation for how he died at that consulate in istanbul. this comes as president trump appears to be changing course, accusing the saudis of deception and lies. abc's molly hunter has the latest from istanbul. good morning, molly. >> reporter: guys, morning. overnight the turkish president says he'll make some kind of announcement tomorrow. this is the first time we have heard him speak publicly about the investigation, and all while the saudis' story keeps changing.

this morning, the official saudi explanation for the death of "washington post" columnist jamal khashoggi has changed once again. days after blaming him for a fist fight and his death, abc is told there was a physical altercation when jamal tried to leave the consulate, and one of the suspects placed him in a choke hold. according to the saudi official, that choke hold is what killed him. the same saudi official says they don't know where khashoggi's body is and some local cooperator took his body for disposal. another saudi official told abc -- reuters his body was rolled up in a rug. khashoggi, a critic of the saudi royal family has not been seen since october 2nd when he walked into the consulate in istanbul. five top intelligence officials have been fired, including a close adviser to the prince. >> we are determined to punish those responsible with this

murder. >> reporter: the saudi foreign minister says the prince knew nothing. ing koeing president trump's line from a few days ago when the president said rogue killers were responsible. >> even the service was not aware of this. this was a rogue operation. this is an operation where individuals ended up exceeding the authorities and responsibilities they had. >> reporter: and president trump is finally casting doubt on the saudis' version of events, telling "the washington post," obviously, there has been deception and lies. now overnight, president trump and turkish president erdogan spoke on the phone. the saudis are also saying that nbs and king salman called the khashoggi family to express their condolences, but there is no confirmation from his family whether that call actually happened. >> those condolences coming three weeks after he died. molly hunter in istanbul. thank you. we're getting new video of the moments a train derailed in taiwan killing at least 18 people as it approached a curve.

you can see it there. eight of the victims were family members returning from a wedding. nearly 200 others were injured. the cause of the crash is under investigation right now. some passengers though say the train was shaking violently just prior to derailing. police in georgia are searching for a suspected cop killer. they surrounded a home outside atlanta last night close to where officer antwan toney was where officer antwan toney was shot while checking on a suspicious vehicle saturday. but the suspect, 18-year-old tafahree maynard, was not there. detectives say he fired the gun that killed officer antwan toney. a second suspect has already been arrested. a vigil will honor the officer who turned 30 just last week. # now let's look at your weather for this monday morning. hurricane willa is bearing down on mexico's pacific coast at nearly category 5 strength. sustained winds of

we're back with quite a hug for prince harry. a sailor lifted harry off his feet to give him that huge bear hug. it was during the sailing competition at the invictus games in australia. needless to say, it broke royal protocol and probably his back in a few places. the duchess apparently screamed in surprise. now to a tragic weekend for a group of american tourists visiting costa rica for a bachelor party. four men from miami and a local tour guide were killed in a rafting accident. they were swept away when several rafts overturned in a swollen river. more than a dozen others were rescued, including the groom. officials say there was a weather alert at the time, warning of possible flooding. to the north just days after canada legalized marijuana for recreational use, the drug is in short supply. many stores and websites say they are running out. they admit sales are far exceeding their expectations while many supporters of

clemson first responders rushed to the private reception hall around 12:30 sunday morning. about 30 people were then treated at area hospitals with various injuries, including broken bones and cuts, but miraculously, no life-threatening injuries. >> all i could see was feeling myself falling like this, and i wake up, because i blacked out. i see girls everywhere with blood all over their face and everything. >> it was a lot of chaos. you could hear screams. screams i have never heard before except in movies. there is blood everywhere. i saw some really, really bad injuries. >> reporter: this morning, investigators are working to determine just what caused the floor to collapse. linsey davis, abc news. a police officer in coral springs, florida is accused of using excessive force on a 14-year-old girl during an arrest at a shopping mall. the officer is seen repeatedly hitting the girl. while she is pinned to the ground, police officials say the officer's actions were within their policy, but the teenager's mother is angry.

she says what the officer was not justified. >> he went totally overboard because she wasn't resisting. they want to make us accountable for our actions. they need to be accountable for their actions. >> what you see on video is the officer delivering some strikes, distraction strikes to an area where she has her hands concealed underneath her. the officers don't know what she may have in her possession. that's a concern. >> now police say the girl was with a group of unruly teenagers who were allegedly harassing shoppers and had been asked to leave the mall. the search for a missing pregnant woman in chicago is intensifying with dozens of volunteers now joining the search. 27-year-old postal worker kierra cole hasn't been seen in nearly three weeks. police say they are not getting any tips. a $28,000 reward is being offered in the case. singer paula abdul is said to be okay after taking a tumble in a concert. the former "american idol" judge
