caltrans camera. a bus as well as a motorcycle collided just before 5:30 tonight. three lanes were blocked and they just reopened all but one. no one on the bus was hurt. we have not heard, however, about the person on the bicycle. sky 7 is over the scene. this is a live look. you can see traffic is somewhat moving. three of the lanes again, have reopened. this is on the right shoulder where you see that ac transit bus that is now pulled over off to the side. you can see emergency crews are there, as well. law enforcement, and you can see some of the flares on the road, as well. we'll keep you posted as the situation continues to unfold. >> look at the backup there. just a real mess. breaking news in fairfield. part of east travis boulevard is shut down while police investigate a crash where a driver who may have been kidnapping a woman was shot.

police say a woman in the car tried to flag down an officer saying the driver was assaulting her. the car drove off with the officer in pursuit. the driver crashed into several other cars just a few blocks away. officers then discovered the driver had been hit by a bullet. >> there were no shots fired by police officers. we're still trying to determine the origin of the gunshot. we believe it happened in the vehicle during the pursuit or just prior to. >> the question is, did he shoot himself? the driver was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries. the crash happened near dover avenue. that intersection is closed while police investigate. good evening. i'm dan ashley. >> and i'm ama daetz. the number of explosive packages sent over the last three days stands at ten. local democratic leaders are concerned about their safety in the bay area. >> within the past hour, a new york police evacuated the time warner building following reports of a suspicious package. it turned out to be a false

alarm. on wednesday, this building was evacuated for several hours after police remove affidavit suspected explosive device sent to ex-cia director john brennan in care of cnn. former vice president joe biden and actor robert de niro are the latest to receive packages. the ones addressed to them are similar to those sent to former president obama and hillary clinton. >> this is clearly an effort to terrorize people politically. that is the kind of thing we have seen before in this city, and we reject it, and we will not be intimidated by it. >> sources say each package contained a digital clock, explosive powder, a battery and wiring to channel a spark for detonation. investigators have fanned out across the country now to determine where components of the explosive devices were purchased, which could give clues about who is responsible for all of this. >> the fbi says all the packages traveled through the mail, which

a pipe bomb was sent to congresswoman maxine waters. the common denominator is all of them have been outspoken critics of president trump. today, waters said we have to keep doing what we're doing in order to make this country right. that's what i inted to do, and as the young people say, i ain't scared. >> one candidate in texas -- >> reporter: both democratic house and senate leaders nancy pelosi and chuck schumer continue to blame the president, saying time and time again the resident has condoned physical violence and divided americans with his words and actions. the chairman of the san francisco republican party says both sides are to blame for this vile rhetoric. >> you have maxine waters saying it was time to confront people and physically assault people. you've had even the president sort of get rough with his language sometimes and really the message should be that political violence is unacceptable. >> reporter: both sides say this shouldn't have an impact on the midterm elections.

on by privacy advocates, as long as it didn't include facial recognition technology and as long as the data wasn't kept forever. for the b.a.r.t. board, it's a balancing act. security versus privacy. for the passengers we spoke with, it's not even close. what's more important to you in a b.a.r.t. station, security or privacy? >> for me, security. >> safety more than privacy. >> reporter: the b.a.r.t. board says it was trying to beef up safety and privacy -- >> the motion carries. >> reporter: by approving a package of new security measures, along with guidelines how they can be used and how long the data can be kept. >> the police department is working with b.a.r.t. i.t. department, mechanical and engine neer engineering, we're all working together. >> reporter: one of those things is a mobile app to help riders find the closest b.a.r.t.

station. b.a.r.t. also plans to add to the 4,000 cameras they already have and upgrade them to digital to deter criminals before they act, and catch those they can't stop. cameras help police catch the man with murdering neil wilson back in july. robert rayburn says that incident provided urgency to what they were doing. >> sometimes it takes a tragedy in order to focus attention. >> reporter: the plan calls for a video monitor at station gates so passengers can see what's happening on the platforms. this artist depiction shows emergency phones to be installed so that riders can talk directly to b.a.r.t. dispatchers who will be able to see them on video. all of it drafted with the help of privacy advocates. >> we like that it's not unlimited. it's buttoned up so people know where the data might go and under what circumstances. >> reporter: the guidelines also say b.a.r.t. can't trade this information or supply it to information to any third parties without a subpoena or legal

people. there are hundreds of camps like that up and down the bay area. this is the wealthiest -- one of the wealthiest pockets in the world. >> reporter: as the homeless epidemic continues to grow, the mayor unveiled a new partnership with good will and the downtown streets team. homeless individuals can now apply for a part-time job making $15 per hour to help clean up areas in the city why trash has been a problem. >> we need to change the narrative from where we blame the homeless as part of the problem to one which we're embracing opportunities to engage our homeless residents as part of the solution. >> reporter: for some, a chance to change course. this homeless man has submitted his application to join the program. >> i'm hoping for a new start. i'm going to start a family, you know, get my life right and never go back to the streets again. >> reporter: organizers say this isn't meant to be a quick fix for housing woes but a chance to build skills as they get back into the workforce. homeless advocates say while it's a step in the right

half, these navy veterans choose to live in about 60 square feet of their van. >> living in san francisco, we had to think of how are we going to pay for rent and be able to not be in debt. so this was our choice. >> reporter: tired of living paycheck to paycheck, they now gets by on about $1,000 a month combined, howering at the gym, doing homework at school, and eating tuna and rice for most meals. but this lifestyle they call van life hasn't come easy. >> we don't know where to park, the safest areas. so a couple times we had our windows busted. >> reporter: they're now driven by the same end goal, spreading the message of turning the materialistic into the minimalistic. >> living in a van, we wanted to show people that are low income housing that if you want to choose to school, that you can live in a van or there's other options to live. >> reporter: and learning to

yosemite falls and el captain. >> i know there's a lot of area where is there's not a lot of railing, and so people may get too close or get a little more careless with getting that picture. >> investigators are looking into what led to this fall. six people have died in yosemite this year. along the peninsula in a courtroom, a murder suspect's request for bail reduction was denied, which means he won't be back in court until august of next year. he remains in jail on $35 million bail. he and tiffany lee are both charged with the murder of keith green, her ex-boyfriend and father of her children. in april of 2016, green vanis d ed and his body was later found in a field with a bullet would through his neck. a third suspect in this case has cut a deal to testify against the other two suspects and is out of jail. lee posted a $70 million bail with cash and property to get

out of jail. >> in the north bay, a group of homeowners filed a suit to stop a commercial cannabis operation in their neighborhood. they claim it's happening on the spot in western petaluma. from person sonoma county, here's wayne freedman. >> reporter: in rural sonoma county, it's less a matter of not in my backyard as in not in my dairy cow neighborhood. neigh she's talking cannabis, where they claim new owners have begun a cannabis operation before receiving a county permit for which they've applied. >> i'm shocked. i am shocked. >> reporter: and they are angry. last week, neighbors convinced a judge to grant a temporary restraining ord ining order. they filed a suit against a tour company that has brought bus loads of people to the property. >> the issue is turning our

we're now less than two weeks away from the november election. a just released poll is giving us a better idea how some california races are shaping up in the final hours here. it is coming from the non-profit think tank public policy institute of california. the race for governor is getting a little bit tighter. gavin newsom is ahead of john cox, 49-38%. the number of those undecided increased to 10% now. am cy analysts say newsom is a safe bet for the governor's office. >> the whole poll shows status quo and he's enjoyed this lead for the entire campaign and cox really has not been able to put a glove on him. i don't think this is going to change. >> election day is november 6th. if you're registered and would like to vote by mail, the deadline to request that ballot is tuesday, october 30th.

first, to a temporary apartment, then to a new home. complicating matters, the wife at the time was 34 weeks pregnant. life is good for mom, and their 8-week-old, and dad. they're a lot less stressed now that shania has arrived and they moved into their brand new home. for three years, they had been living here, at these apartments in santa clara. they were scheduled to move to their new home in april. the construction delays pushed back that date several times. >> as soon as they found out this house was going to be delayed further, we went back to them, which was 29 days before our lease was to expire and asked for an extension and they denied it. >> reporter: he said he asked the apartment manager two more times for an extension, but each time it was denied because he was told his unit had been scheduled for renovation. >> the stress was so big that,
