they just gave an update. it will be at least an hour and a half. plan 6:30. if that goes according to plan. it is just bumper to bumper off the sunol grade. there is not a real good alternate. 580 to 880 is probably your best bet. guys? thank you, sue. a major arrest on the peninsula. san mateo police have someone posing as a ride hail driver and sexually assaulting women. >> reporter: reggie and alexis, good morning. san mateo police have arrested 40-year-old brandon sherman of san jose. he is accused of kidnapping is and raping a woman over the summer. he picked her up on highway 82, drove her to a secluded area and assaulted her.

police reviewed surveillance and linked the vehicle description to five possible drivers. sherman was arrested yesterday morning during a traffic stop. officers searched his home and found more evidence linking him to the crime. police say they could have acted faster if the ride-hailing companies were more cooperative during the investigation. >> they have to recognize the life-threatening activities of some of their drivers and be more responsive to law enforcement and worksing with us to quickly identify them. >> reporter: now, detectives are still investigating sherman to see if he is linked to any other crimes. they are asking anyone with information to contact san mateo police. thank you. developing news on the suspicious package investigation. >> this morning federal investigators are still trying to identify who sent at least 10 suspected mail bombs. the devices were addressed to

prominent democratic politicians including former vice president joe biden and former secretary of state hillary clinton as well as critics of the president, including actor robert de niro. sources tell abc news the sources have traced it to a postal facility in opa-locka, florida near miami. there was a scare at senator feinstein's office last night. a suspicious package found there appears to be a false alarm. congressional democrats from the bay area are on edge in light of the suspect said mail bombs. flyers remind staff how to identify a suspicious package. >> you have to put all the mail through a machine to make sure there is nothing suspicious about it. >> i think we're all on edge. you can't peek for fear you will receive a package the next day.

>> democrats and republicans say this should not have an impact on the midterm election. they believe most voters are already made up their minds. >> bart says it has no specific threats but is stepping up security in the threat of pipe approximate bombs. extra officers and canine units were patrolling the civic center station. the united states government is joining a lawsuit against the navy contractor accused of fraud. the lawsuit claims the contractor put lives at risk by falsifying results from contaminated soil samples. they turned out to be toxic remnants of the old nuclear research lab. they found it could be more widespread than first thought. a tragic scene at a popular lookout at yosemite national park. the bodies of a man and woman were found wednesday. this video shows the perspective on top of that landmark. it is 7,500 feet above the

valley floor. park rangers airlifted the bodies yesterday morning. now, that's six total deaths at yosemite in the past six months. taft point is a popular outlook to have photos taken. last week, this went viral of an unknown couple appearing to get engaged at that location. >> vacca victim police hope someone can identify these three suspects accused of an unpro poked attack october 11th. they walked to a victim outside the walmart and threw the man on the ground. they punched the victim in the head and kicked him. witnesses disrupted the attack and the three suspects took off in a saturn ion. the victim is recovering. if you have any information call vacaville police. >> this van door is the front door of a couple's home. it is helping them beat the high cost of bay area living. they are spending 300 bucks on a van and living in it in san francisco. >> it is called building a

facebook or other social media sites to join the conversation about cleaning up trash in the bay area. on the peninsula, a muslim man was denied a job at samsung because of his religion. the council on american-islamic relations has filed a complaint with the state. the man interviewed with samsung in menlo park last october. he claims one interviewer told him that co-workers go out for drinks after work and the company culture wouldn't be a good fit for him because muslims don't drink. he claims he was asked about his national origin. samsung says it has not yet received a formal complaint about the allegations. happening today, the san francisco gay man's chorus will compete at st. ig neighbor kwrous church for the first time. times have changed and the gay man's chorus will perform tone at 8:00.

a special tribute. a record number of lbgtq characters appearing on tv shows. it increased from 6.5% last year to nearly 9%. the goal is 10% by the year 2020. glaad has tracked lbgtq on tv for 23 years. research finds a record high percentage of black characters, 22%, latinos maintain a record high of 8%, asian-american reached 8 approximate% this year. women now make up 43% of network tv characters. in the south bay, it's the most wonderful time of the year. already? organizers for christmas in the park and downtown san jose are prepping for the holiday season. it will be gone by christmas night. amanda del castillo explains. >> the time-honored tradition is in its 39th year. >> it's something that something

ears looking for these packages. >> it includes actor robert de niro and former vice president joe biden. so far all 10 targets are critics of the president. law enforcement is not speculating a possible motive or whether politics are involved. >> be the first to know about any new developments in the suspicious package. in the east bay, one of the men charged in the "ghost ship" fire continues his quest to get his plea deal back. this summer a judge stunned derrick almena and the rest of us when he threw out a deal because he said almena didn't show enough remorse. he does not want to go to trial. epls the judge to accept the plea deal that he made with prosecutors, including a nine-year prison sentence. he was ready to plead guilty in august. but after listening to statements from victims's family members, the judge said he didn't think almena showed remorse and rejected the deal. 36 people died in the fire two

years ago inside an oakland warehouse known as the ghost ship. he was renting the warehouse and converted it to a live and work space. there was a concert on the second floor the night of the fire. co-defendant max harris has decided to go to trial. if almena does go to trial, his attorney wants to ask for a change of venue. one man is dead after being shot by his romantic partner during a kidnapping. it ended in a crash on east travis and dover avenue. the 24-year-old female passenger was of shouting at an officer through her window. she claimed she was being kidnapped. they say she shot the 22-year-old driver who died from his injuries. after the crash, crews first pulled out a 10-month-old baby. >> i was so shocked there was a baby in the car after this big accident. i said oh, my god. and the baby was crying. >> the baby was being passed

hour. altamont pass, pretty moderate. guys? thanks, sue. breaking news just in. multiple sources now tell abc news authorities recovered an 11th package as part of the widening investigation into suspected bombs. sources say it was addressed to senator cory booker of new jersey. it was recovered at or near opa-locka, florida. a postal facility there is at the center of this investigation. authorities believe many of the suspected bombs moved through that florida facility. bart is moving forward with its plan to step up surveillance measures. how it is balancing security versus privacy.
