good morning. thanks for joining us on this sunday, october 28th. i'm we'll start with weather. lisa, it was a beautiful day yesterday. we aare looking at more warm temperatures? >> we're starting with the cooling trend. yesterday it was hazy and numbers warm. we hit 80s yesterday but lots of cloud cover and dense fog wednesday again. look at the numbers, 48 in santa rosa and 59 in oakland, 55 san jose and speaking of that fog, just a half mile visibility along the coast and in santa

rosa. it is going to expand across the bay. you can see oakland eight miles and we'll see slow clearing today. so starting out with a lot of low clouds and fog and 50s for everyone and by the afternoon, fog and high clouds and upper 60s bay side and today, another five degrees of cooling for some of you but we'll see the hazy afternoon sun and we're talking about a reversal of the winds. i'll explain what that means in a few minutes. >> thanks. officials say the man accused in a deadly rampage inside a pennsylvania synagogue acted alone. here is what we know. at least 11 people are dead. six more injured including four police officers, the suspect 46-year-old robert bowers faces 29 federal charges including some that could carry the death penalty. he has no previous criminal histories. history and it is being called one of the deadly attacks on the jewish community in the united states.

social media is sharing this picture. the star of david, the steel mark more often recognized as the pittsburgh steelers football team. the image is shared online with a hashtag stronger than hate. there were vigils at synagogues after yesterday morning's attack in pittsburgh. all of them shared a common message that hate needs to stop. >> having a brother living there really touches home. >> reporter: jock rocked saturday morning by 11 dead and six injured in a synagogue shooting in pittsburgh. his brother lives in the community hit, a practicing orthodox jew. his brother wasn't hurt but he's grieving. as were these people outside of the contemporary jewish museum

in san francisco. >> not a question whether it would happen but when. >> there is a launch of hate. it's not just rhetoric. it's an action. >> to those who traffic in white supremacy. >> one life is an entire universe. >> reporter: how do you fight back against hate? this group believes it starts through knowing your neighbors and maintaining hope. >> we need to work together to move this country from insane back to humane. >> reporter: in burkely, a similar message. >> tonight we join the millions throughout the world. >> reporter: but others are calling for something more tangible. in november. >> take a stand on election day. elections matter. you can't just, you know, post something on twitter letting everyone know how upset you are. >> reporter: i spoke with several rabbis and all of them telling me local synagogues maintained a strong relationship with law enforcement and plan to work closely with police in the days ahead.

reporting in berkeley. here is a live look at the white house, president trump ordered the flag be flown at half staff to remember the victims in the synagogue shooting until sunset on wednesday. former president barack obama posted a tweet following the tree of life synagogue massacre. he wrote we grieve for the americans murdered in pittsburgh. all of us have to fight of anti-semitism and fight for those who look, love and pray differently. we have to make it not so easy for those what want to harm the innocent to get a gun. synagogues are taking no chances. security is increased considerably. cornell bernard shows us. >> reporter: david is checking the doors at congress sherith israel making sure they are locked and secured.

the security chief at the temple where security has been stepped up in the wake of the pittsburgh synagogue massacre. members are entering through a side door escorted by guards. >> it's tragic and a hate crime and hatred will no be tolerated. >> we absolutely stand against every act of hate in every form it takes. >> reporter: rabbi beth singer says a metal detector is nothing new outside her synagogue and neither is the fear of violence. >> it's something i worry about every day because of the rise of gun violence in and churches and schools and places. >> reporter: we found police officers. >> it's devastating. i'm jewish. >> reporter: state senator scott wean weiner blasted the president for suggesting the shooting would have a different outcome if the synagogue had an armed guard.

left many people in shock trying to comprehend how hate-filled violence can happen here. ♪ ♪ >> reporter: a community, an entire faith and nation in mourning. grieving after a gunman opened fire in pittsburgh. >> the only shots we hear are the shots coming out towards the officers. >> reporter: authorities say the chaos raged for an agonizing 20 minutes as dozens of people were inside on a saturday morning. first responders took down the suspect, 46-year-old robert bowers shooting him multiple times. they believe he will survive. >> looked like an average 50-year-old dude. >> reporter: the suspect was not known to law enforcement before the shooting but has multiple firearm and hunting licenses to his name. he used at least one assault rifle. >> the suspect's full motive is unknown but we believe he was acting alone. >> reporter: a neighbor wishes there was a warning sign. >> the most terrifying thing is

just how normal he seemed. >> reporter: the fbi says the official motive is unknown but the case is being investigated as a hate crime. >> justice in this case will be swift and severe. >> reporter: this community has been absolutely rocked, and that grief is extending across the country. many leaders reiterating this shooting was not just an attack on the jewish faith, it was an attack on america as a whole. maggie rulli, abc 7 news, kate? >> thank you, maggie. the counsel on american islamic relations or c.a.r.e. is expressing solidarity with the community. c.a.r.e. says such an act of terror affects all of us. our doors are open at all times to our neighbors. c.a.r.e. is the largest civil rights anded a va va va va va va

rights and advocacy organization. during the dodgers and red sox gape there was a momeme the silence. the pits burlg shotsburgh shoot latest on recent attacks against american jews. we've seen an upward tend but some experts say it's not all motivated by hate. fear is a big issue, as well. >> we saw in pittsburgh what we believe to be the deadliest a i antis-semitic attack in the united states. >> reporter: he says they have seen a spike in hate crimes against american jews going back to the 2016 presidential campaign. their latest report shows an almost 60% in antis-semitic incidents from 2016 to 2017. that's the largest increase on record. >> not only criminal activity but legal expressions of hatreh.

>> reporter: even here in the bay area. in september during the jewish new year, flyers with antis-semitic messages were posted at five east basin goings. white supremacists are trying to main stream the cause. >> using the terminology of the civil rights movement and talk about white rights and pride in being right and try to attach it to debate like te immigration deba debate. >> reporter: he says jews a demonized. that leads to fear. >> there is a correlation between hate crimes and statements in positions of public leader tleaders. >> reporter: he says when president trump attacks mexicans or muslims, item boldens people to act. the pittsburgh shooter about a jewish community that helps rrefugees. >> this is the fear that drives people to violence.

your office lottery pool for now. two winning tickets matched all six numbers in last night's huge powerball. the tickets were sold in iowa and new york. the winners will split the jackpot. each will get $343 million. that sounds good to me. two tickets sold in bakersfield and high land, which is in san bernardino matched five of the six numbers to win $5.5 million. 8, 12, 13, 19, 27 and the powerball was 4. wednesday night's jackpot resets to $40 million. in the east bay, u.s. senator bernie sanders and barbara lee spent yesterday rallying bay area constituents to get out the vote. abc 7 news was in berkeley where they encouraged a packed audience in the auditorium. they rallied support of progressive candidates in the november 6th general election. >> the vast majority of the

clouds and they will stick around for a little bit. there is a system to the north allowing for extra cloud cover, the on shore push and cooler day today. unfortunately, not going to see rain. we'll just be the recipients of a cooler afternoon and with that, a wind shift in the mountains. we have a red flag warning for the sierra nevada through 8:00 tonight and looking at very gusty winds here. the winds will shift here by about tuesday, and we also will see some high fire danger. right now, numbers are sort of mild. upper 50s from san francisco and 59 in hayward and mountain view at 56. the fog foot fingerprint is more wide spread as it pushes across the bay. so a mile and a quarter visibility. a quarter of a mile in santa rosa and napa a half mile. you see the picture of the golden gate bridge foggy and insulating us and the clouds from a degree to eight degrees

warmer. starting out warmer, we'll finish cooler today. so your forecast highlights a lot like yesterday although bringing the afternoon highs down more so today. so patchy dense fog and high clouds this morning looking at a cooler day today with haze see conditions and dry into next week starting with a warmup on halloween and that will take us through several days next week. let's go hour by hour. notice the fog and clouds with us through the morning hours and right on through 1:00, 1:30 it's hazy out there. you can see that we're looking at partly cloudy conditions and then by the afternoon, the clouds continue to sweep away from the north bay but still perhaps clinging to the coast. this will be the last day of those wide spread clouds because after tomorrow we are looking at less cloud cover and that warmup. so not a whole lot of difference from tomorrow's forecast to today in the south bay. low 70s average high 71 and we'll go 75 on tuesday. mid 70s for halloween and then

upper 70s the rest of the week. so certainly will be warmer than average around much of the bay area beginning on tuesday. 69 in richmond today. look for 75 in concord. low 70s santa rosa and notary public -- napa. if you're headed to the raider's game, highs in the mid 60s to 67 and look for partly cloudy conditions there, as well. the accuweather seven-day forecast, 70 around the bay. mid 70s inland. a little change tomorrow. slightly cooler and then the warming trend begins on tuesday. you can download our accuweather app and keep track of the winds which are certainly expected to gust from time to time and looking at the offshore flow with numbers back in the 80s. a good ten degrees above average. i've been getting requests for rain. not much we can do about it but we're hopeful by a very warm halloween. >> yeah. i want everyone to look behind

construction delays pushed back the moving date for a south bay couple to move into their home. when they tried to extend the lease, the landlord refused until they contacted michael finney. >> reporter: life is good for mom, 8-week-old baby and dad. they are a lot less stressed now that she's arrived and they moved into their brand-new home. for three years, they had been living here at bella vista apartments in santa clara. they were scheduled to move to their new home in april. the construction delays pushed back that date several times. >> as soon as we found out that this house would be delayed further, we went back to them 29 days before the lease was to expire anding for an sking for >> reporter: he asked the apartment manager two more times for a lease extension but each

time it was denied because he was told his unit was scheduled for renovation. >> the stress was so big oh my god, we have to move with my pregnant belly. i can deliver any time. >> reporter: he considered renting another apartment or living temporary in a hotel. the idea did not seem practical. >> we have to pack up everything from our old apartment, set up things in the new apartment and with the baby coming. >> do we want to do that? do we want to move? it was too stressful at that time. >> reporter: her boss suggested he contact 7 on your side. the couple did and we contacted their apartments, the very next day the family was informed their lease would be extended another month. shania was born shortly after that and the family moved into their new home three weeks later. >> a big thank you. without this, i don't know how the whole pregnancy and the baby would have worked out. >> reporter: despite several requests, the apartment manager did not get back to us with a

tampa florida home is an internet sensation buzz a college student down the block posted these photos to her twitter account. for years the couple who lives here placed life-sized skeletons in their yard in different circumstances in the days leading up to halloween. they could be feeding hens one day and hitting a pumpkin pinata the next. very cute. an afternoon of fashion and fun. deon lymphs the m.c. at the 30th annual fashion show. the organization started in 1971 taking care of senior citizens and now spreads the word of caring for our elders. they have seven centers, including the largest senior center in san francisco. they are raising money for a dementia center that will serve those not only with dementia and all timers and other care needs. >> still to come on abc 7 morning, on the move again. an update on the massive caravan

vote "yes" on c. big corporations pay for it, not you. good morning. it is 5:30 on this sunday and we'll start this half hour with a look at weather with meteorologist lisa ar i understand it is cooligetting cooler today. >> today certainly a cooler pattern arrived. some of you cooled down yesterday. right now we're in the 50s. a mild start. 59 in oakland and hayward but upper 40s santa rosa. we have a lot of fog. half moon zero visibility. half moon to napa, fog on most of the bridges out there and with all that cloud cover, we are milder. you probably feel it. two to five degrees milder across the bay and temperatures,

they will stay mild but look how long it will take for the clouds to clear. here we are at 2:00, 60s to 70 and still partly to mostly cloudy conditions in some parts of the bay. by the time we get to the dinner hour, the clouds are at the coast in the 60s. maybe muggy out there and by tonight, the clouds push away from the shoreline and we'll talk about when we warm up. it will be a pretty interesting week ahead with 80s arriving once again inland. kate? >> thanks, lisa. >> the man who allegedly opened fire on worshippers at a synagogue faces 29 federal charges. 11 people died and six were injured including four police officers. the suspect has been identified as 46-year-old robert bowers. he was not known to law enforcement officials before the shooting, but authorities say he has multiple firearm and hunting licenses to his name. he used at least one assault rifle inside the synagogue and had three handguns. this attack is being called one of the deadliest on the jewish

community in u.s. history. immediately after the shooting, the new york city police department dispatched heavily armed officers to jewish centers and houses of worship. officers from the department's critical response command and counterterrorism burroughs made presence known across the city. the department called the move a precautionary measure. new york state governor andrew cuomo would order police to increase controls near jewish centers, as well. more details about the florida man arrested accused of senti sending more than a dozen pipe bombs to critics of donald trump. jim dolan with the update from miami. >> reporter: the long journey of justice for ceasar say yak boc on monday where he's charged with mailing pipe bombs. a picture is emerging of sayoc, a troubled isolated man

tuesday into halloween. back up to 80. low 80s thursday and friday. winds are offshore. fire danger increases and will take awhile for the numbers come back down. here is the golden gate bridge. foggy out there and visibility at times down to just about nothing. so do be careful with fog in the north bay and east bay. here is live doppler seven and the reason why we have a stronger on shore push and weak system will fall apart through northern california but it is spreading rain into the pacific northwest. no rain in our forecast but as the system slides to the south it will provide fire danger with winds in excess of 40 miles an hour until tonight and we'll look for the wind reversal into next week. with the cloud cover, we're pretty mild out there. numbers near 60 right now in concord. also, san rafphael on the mild

side. some areas are warmer than average and dropping into the 40s and parts of the north bay. looking at a mile to half mile from santa rosa to napa and visibility looks better but still, there are foggy areas right through the entire south bay into the east bay. two to eight degrees milder and we'll look for the afternoon temperatures to come down. sfo with no delays, high clouds, cooler today with hazy conditions and dry, warmer next week begins on tuesday and it looks like a pretty warm week. unusually warm. as we go through the hour by hour forecast, cloud cover with us all the way across into the east bay, there is an area of low pressure that will allow for a few sprinkles perhaps, mist and drizzle, the golden gate bridge not out of the question and by 1:30 or 2:00, we have hazy skies then finally, the winds will sweep the fog away from the coast and the north bay and eventually we'll look for a

clearing sky overnight in parts of the bay. 72 in richmond, 70 in oakland tomorrow and monday the same with numbers in the 70s. tuesday the warming trend to near 80 and by wednesday, everyone experiences the warmth out there. 69 in oakland today. 74 in fremont. looking at numbers coming down today on the coast and temperatures will be in the 60s there with the stubborn clouds and for halloween, you probably heard dry and mild and ocho by trick-or-treating, 70s. we're warmer than average again by the middle to the end of next week. so some folks not real excited about that warmth coming back. >> halloween, you know, it can be hit or miss when it's warm
