...uniting the world. ♪♪ and that breaking news is out of the east bay where a 3-year-old boy was shot tonight. oakland police say he was driven to the hospital and has now been moved to the children's hospital oakland. the shooting happened not far from the san leandro border. investigators are trying to figure out if it happened at a home or out on the street. we'll continue to follow the story. our other major story of the redes e being bnis e danger. are goingp around the bay area. we'll begin with sandhya patel tracking the conditions out there. >> there's a reason why that red flag warning is in effect for the 3/4 bay hills right now. take a look at the wind gusts.

they're starting to the crease. the east bay hills will be under that red flag warning shortly. it's in effect until 6:00 a.m. wednesday. north-northeasterly winds gusting up to 55 miles an hour. a combination of that and lowering humidity 9% to 19% with the dry vegetation means fires will start rapidly. so we extra vigilant. live picture from our east bay hills camera showing you just how shaky that is. hour by hour look coming up, dan? >> sandhya, thanks a kate? >> yeah, that's right and you know we've been here all night. the wind has not picked up yet, but you can see right here the fire danger in the east bay hills is high today. we know these winds conditions can change quickly. i can tell you that the firefighters here at station 2

are on alert ready to respond, and if they need extra patrols tomorrow, that'll happen. >> by the end of the october we haven't had any substantial rain since the spring, so all the fuels are really dry. >> reporter: drone view 7 flying over the east bay hills sunday. gusty wind and low humidity make controlling the fire very difficult. berkeley chief says the design of east bay hills is problematic when it comes to fighting fires. >> the neighborhoods were built so long ago they were built with tiny little streets, houses a lot of which are wood shingle, trees and vegetation right up next to the houses. so it's really hard to get in and out at the same time people are trying to evacuate. >> everything is dry. >> reporter: he remembers the 1991 oakland hills fire storm which killed 25 people and

destroyed more than 3,000 homes. he worries about evacuating from his north berkeley neighborhood in the event of a fire. >> a heck of a lot of people trying to get out, so big time.o >> reporter: the fire department is also urging people to decorate with fire safety in mind this halloween. >> a long time ago we switched away from putting candles in the pumpkins to the little battery powered flicker lights that look like candles. >> reporter: and if you smell, see or otherwise know about a fire in your neighborhood chief brangon says to get out, evacuate even if law enforcement or fire officials have not told you to do it. that ensures you can get out quickly and safely. also be prepared with your ways of information. make sure you know what radio or tv shows like us to sign into. check the city and county twitter websites for information as well. i'm kate larson, abc 7 news. >> all right, kate, thanks.

screaming and it's seared in my brain. i can't erase that tape. >> reporter: rabbi jeffrey myers was the first to call 911. >> i heard one woman, i think i know who it was, my husband's been shot, screaming. and then that was afterwards she was silenced. >> reporter: she says that woman bernice simon died alongside her husband sylvan together in the very same synagogue the two had been married in nearly six decades ago. 11 people killed because of their safe. the shooter's hatred could be found online. posts like these on a fringe site embraced by white supremacists where the suspect openly discussed his hatred for jewish people. in the face of these dark r revelations rabbi myers says hate will not win.

and he says he's now planning funerals. the first of many begin tomorrow. the president and first lady say they'll also be here tomorrow to mourn with the community. >> and in the south bay tonight an outpouring of sympathy and support for victims in the pittsburgh synagogue shootig. students at san jose state university and other community groups gathered from on campus candlelig candlelight vigil. amanda? >> reporter: dan, dozens surrounded the ceaser, chavez arch here on campus for the vigil. 11 blows to honor the 11 men and women killed saturday morning. the vigil organizer and san jose state student spencer brody says he like many was

spiritual time that jews were killed for just being jewish and not anything else, it's so, so sad. >> reporter: and tomorrow san jose city leaders and other religious groups where coming together for a 5:00 p.m. vigil outside of city hall. this is going to be an interfaith vigil. live at san jose state university tonight. >> abc 7 news was also in san francisco where people gathered at sixth and natoma streets to remember victims and survivors of the shooting in pittsburgh. sharing the message that kindness to others and strength in community are the best ways to overcome the worst of times. the attack has forced a film festival in the south bay to hire armed security officers. abc 7 news was in san jose where the silicon valley jewish film festival runs through november 11th. people from a nearby islamic

center are offering to volunteer the monitor the festival. christian churches have also extended support. now, we are honoring the victims of the pittsburgh synagogue shooting on the abc 7 facebook page. that's where you can share this badge listing all 11 of the lives lost during saturday's vicious attack. crews are getting ready to release a mountain lion after it was captured in pleasanton. the mountain lion was tranquilized several times. the dark made it difficult to shoot and sea. the l.a. county sheriff's office even brought a drone to keep an eye on the animal. it was first spotted around 4:30 this afternoon. it was in the bushes near an office park full of people working. >> we came outside. there were police waiting for us, security guards escorting us to our cars. i wanted to stick around and see what happens. >> officials say the mountain lion is a 9 to 12 month old

where he's been invited to play in the pro-amshriner's hospital for children open on wednesday. john scott was born with cerebral palsy and has been a shriner's patient for years. >> we were told when he was born he would not walk, would be in a wheelchair. and now look at him. >> reporter: not only can he walk, he can swing. one of the best players on his team. every day john scott is either practicing or playing. a level of commitment that requires focus and dedication that his dead says helps him in school. because his dad knows doing well in school will help his chances of doing well in college where he wants to continue playing. >> just the whole part of it, just playing, socializing with a lot of people. >> reporter: john scott can't help but feel a little nervous about the upcoming tournament. he wonders if he can keep up with the pros.

but his dad isn't worried. >> you can't count john scott out. he's overcome so much. >> we will be pulling for john scott. great story. let's turn our attention back to what we talked about at the top of the broadcast and that's windy conditions and dry. >> this is the time of career where you need to be extra vigilant. fire danger is high. strong winds expected in the hills, humidity will plunge and we are looking at dry vegetation, the wrong combination. an area of low pressure has passed. high pressure is starting to build in, and that's why you're seeing that north wind developing. here's a look at live doppler 7 where we're seeing pretty much clear skies other than some passing high clouds. temperatures right now anywhere from the 40s to the low 60s in places like nevado and brentwood. you see those temperatures remaining a bit milder than what

we're used to this time of year. let's take a look at the highlights. basically looking at gusty winds through the hills tonight, fire danger elevated through the morning. comfortable conditions. and a live look right now and you can see that camera is just bouncing as the winds over the higher elevations have picked up. they're already gusting over 30 miles an hour. in the overnight hours we'll continue to see the wind coming out of the the north-northeast. places like napa 24 miles an hour tomorrow morning. still gusting at 9:00 a.m., and the winds will subside a bit only to pick back up again, which is why we're concerned. i do want to show you what's going to happen with the humidity. you see here it's pretty good humidity in terms of the overnight recovery. but then watch what happens. humidity levels drop tomorrow 11:00 a.m. and in the 20s and 30s for some of you.

by 5:00 p.m. tomorrow afternoon we're talking teens. 15% in livermore. that is very dry conditions here locally. so please remain aware of your surroundings, like i said. can't emphasize that enough. windy in the hills tomorrow morning. temperatures anywhere from the low 40s to the 50s. clear skies to start off. and the sloping wind will push those temperatures up. tomorrow up to 80 in fairfield, 79 in livermore, 75 san jose, oakland, 76 san rafael, 66 decrease in half moon bay. nice looking weathers, and here's a look at your halloween planner. 7:00 a.m., 50s for your temperatures. when those kids start to parade around scool it is going to be comfortable. 4:00 p.m. you'll have a halloween treat. tricker treaters will not have to worry about any inclement weather. although we do need to rain, i don't have it on the accuweather
