harassed and emotionally abused her for nearly a decade and ruined her acting career. weinstein's lawyer called the accusations preposterous. dozens of women have accused weinstein of misconduct, including sexual assault. google employees around the world are expected to walk off the job today. they're protesting the company's handling of sexual harassment cases. this follows a "new york times" report that google allowed top executives accused of sexual misconduct to leave with generous severance packages. organizers have reportedly organized a list of demands including pay equality and an empowered chief adversity officer. now to a supreme romance. sandra day o'connor rejected a marriage proposal for her then classmate william rehnquist. they would later serve on the supreme court together. he was chief justice and she was the first woman appointed to the nation's highest court in 1981. >> their romance is revealed in a new book, "first" is its title. it's set for release next year.

good morning. i'm kendis gibson. >> and i'm linsey davis. here are some of the top headlines we're following this morning on "world news now." five days to go. president trump is ramping up his hard line stance on immigration, slamming the migrant caravan and vowing to send up to 15,000 troops to the border. he's delivering his message directly to supporters. making stops in eight states before election day. funerals for three more synagogue shooting victims will be held today while they're alleged killer is arraigned. he has been indicted on 44 counts, including murder, hate crimes and weapons charges. strong winds in barcelona pushed a large passenger ferry off course and into a crane on this dock. it fell over sending workers

spreading fear and lies. and this is what he had to say when abc's jonathan karl asked about his campaign pledge to never lie. >> i remember, you remember well on the campaign, you made a promise. you said, i will never lie to you. so can you tell me now honestly, have you kept that promise at all times? have you always been truthful? >> well, i try. i do try. i think you try, too. you say things about me that are not necessarily correct. do i try and i always want to tell the truth. when i can, i tell the truth. sometimes it turns out to be where something happens it's different or there is a change, but i always like to be truthful. >> right after that interview in florida, the president stepped on to the stage and suggested the media had inflated the number of people who came out to protest his visit to pittsburgh this week following the synagogue massacre. breaking overnight, the university of maryland head football coach is out of a job just a day after the school cleared him to return to the sidelines.

>> it all stems of the death of an offensive lineman in may and the outrage around campus in the state that the head coach might have been on the sidelines this weekend. abc's brad mielke has more. brad? >> yeah, guys, this was a terrible story that seemed to get darker and darker. first, you had a young man die after suffering heatstroke at a practice. then you had players start coming forward and saying this whole place is toxic. a report from espn quoted unnamed players saying coaches would belittle them, threaten them, push them past the line. one student athlete was allegedly mocked after he passed out from a drill. the school concluded there were abuses but no toxic culture and the coach d.j. durkin was being unfairly blamed so they reinstated him. adam rittenberg told me that maryland was outraged. >> there was a lot of criticism from politicians, from maryland governor larry hogan put out two separate statements saying the board needed to reconsider its

decision. the student government president told me that they scheduled a rally on justice for jordan and to protest the return of d.j. durkin. there were going to be protests at saturday's game against michigan state. certainly tremendous backlash. while it's low in conjunction with others, university of maryland college park decided they could not continue with durkin as the coach. >> both denied fostering a toxic atmosphere or pushing players past a line physically. we'll have a lot more on the fallout at maryland later this morning on "start here." check it out on apple podcasts or your favorite podcasts apps. kendis? linsey? >> brad, look forward to hearing that. now to the deadly new york mystery. the body of two sisters bound together with duct tape found floating in the hudson river. they are 16-year-old tala and 22-year-old rotana farea. they were saudi nationals living in virginia. authorities say they were probably alive when they entered

the river. police are treating their deaths as suspicious. there are reports that the sisters requested asylum and that the saudis had just ordered them and the family to return to the kingdom. human remains may help solve a 35-year-old mystery. the bone fragments were found during construction work at the vatican's embassy to italy. they may be those of teen girls missing since 1983. the two 15-year-olds disappeared six weeks apart. investigators say it will be at least a week before they know the age and gender of the remains. breaking overnight, a major development in this week's plane crash in indonesia. today navy divers recovered the black box from the lion air jet on the sea floor. and indonesian television station aired footage of the two divers placing a bright orange device into a large container. the plane crashed early monday morning just minutes after taking off from the city of jakarta, killing nearly 200 people. abc's bob woodruff is there.

>> reporter: indonesian investigators are hoping pings detected at sea could help lead them to the most crucial element needed for their investigation, the black box. divers already bringing back shiploads of debris and also body bags. identifying the first victim, a 24-year-old woman, one of the 189 on lion air flight 610. this video given to abc showing passengers boarding an hour before the tragedy. one man showing us this for photo. he is on the left but took a different flight. those three in the middle feared lost. the boeing 737 max 8 which plunged 13 minutes after takeoff was in service for only two months. lion air claims a mechanical issue the day before the accident was resolved. now, authorities appear to be ruling out terrorism, leaning towards technical failure, but with these types of aircraft in use in the united states, the

race is on to find out what brought down that plane after it left the airport. bob woodruff, abc news, jakarta. scientists now say the earth may be more sensitive to fossil fuel emissions than previously thought. a study finds that oceans have absorbed 60% more heat in the past quarter century. they warn that may make it more difficult to deep global warming under control and within safe levels this century. to do so, emissions from human activities must be reduced much more than previously estimated. the world's largest statue is now on display in india. the bronze monument is called the statute of unity and it honors the leader of the indian independence movement. the statue stands 597 feet, which is nearly twice the height of the statue of liberty. if you include lady liberty's pedestal. in three years, india plans to open another statue that is even taller and it costs millions and

seat and saw flashing lights but by the time she realized it was a school bus, it was too late. growing issues about the safety of that but stop. the siblings' uncle says the family had contacted the district in the past about moving the stop away from the road. >> there is plenty of room for the school bus to pull in to pick up the kids instead of asking them to walk across the highway. >> reporter: the children were crossing this busy road where the speed limit on this stretch is 45 miles per hour. a 2018 national survey of school bus drivers found that on a single day, nearly 84,000 vehicles pass their busses illegally. in lee county, mississippi, another child struck and injured while getting on the bus. school officials have announced they will be moving that bus stop. instead of stopping on this busy road, it will now wind its way through the side streets of this neighborhood. alex perez, abc news, rochester, indiana. >> we should mention, a fourth child not related to the other three is in stable condition.

caravan of central american migrants heading to the u.s. and asks, who else will they let in? democrats say the ad is a sign of desperation. the pittsburgh synagogue massacre suspect will be in federal court for arraignment today. a federal grand jury indicted robert bowers on 44 counts, including murder and the obstruction of the free exercise of religious freedom. meanwhile, funerals are also scheduled today for three more worshippers shot and killed last saturday. pennsylvania has not yet charged bowers, waiting for the federal case to proceed. federal prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty. prosecutors in kentucky have not yet decided whether to seek the death penalty against the man accused of opening fire in a grocery store and killing two people. the grand jury has indicted gregory bush of two counts of murder and one of attempted murder. both of the victims were black. bush is white. kentucky does not have hate crime charges but the justice department is looking into them. new york authorities are investigating the gruesome deaths of two sisters.

their bodies were bound together with tape floating in the hudson river. the sisters left saudi arabia in 2015 and moved to northern virginia. abc's david wright has the details. >> reporter: a mystery on the hudson. two bodies recovered a week ago bound together at the wrists and ankles with duct tape. >> feet taped. taped up and facing down. >> police now believe they were alive when they entered the river. >> we've made significant progress in piecing together pieces of this puzzle. >> reporter: the nypd has positively identified the victims and released these photos. 16-year-old tala farea and 22-year-old rotana farea, living in fairfax, virginia. there are reports that the sisters asked for asylum and the saudi government ordered the whole family to return home, detail the saudis deny. police are treating the deaths as suspicious but say it's too early to call it murder. investigators haven't yet ruled out the possibility it was a
