away. she wears an ankle monitor issued by immigration and customs enforce am. at first it was a badge of honor in the struggle to gape asylum, but it turned into a symbol of shame. still she said she will fight to stay in the u.s. as long as she can. she left el salvador a year ago by joining another caravan. she wants americans to understand many people from central america have nothing left but fear and hope. >> she said she wants her son with her, even if they both have to live on the streets. in the meantime, she is staying in the east bay with a family who has opened their home. >> people like veronica are coming because they have incredible fear where they live. to come here to find a place where they can be safe to find a place to thrive and grow, it was important to us. >> now veronica aguilar can only hope for the right outcome. >> the global google walk out. the employees walked off their jobs today. >> calling for changes and how the bay area company handles sexual harassment and discrimination. >> this is a "new york times" story against andy ruben. he received $90 million in severance pay in 2014 after being accused of sexual misconduct. he denies the allegations. >> three of the walk outs here. sky 7 was above the main campus in mountain view and sunnyvale. we see the crowd in san francisco. >> abc 7's kate larson is in san francisco with the reporter. >> a lot of employees held up a sign that said happy to quit for $90 million. no pay out needed. clearly a digging.

48 employees have been fired in the past two years for sexual harassment. >> i personally would prefer an apology and transparency. >> these are no longer pr issues, but cultural issues. >> she spent her entire career investing in tech companies and helped fountain all female investor conference. women in tech are forcing real change. >> what was new is that you had a group of women that were in powerful positions at their firms. we sat there and said enough is enough. >> i always spoke to a google hr employee who said she participated in the walk out to show human resources does support them. there is protocol for when a case is reported. she wouldn't go into what that was, but they did investigate.

and east bay hills. gusting up to 50 with low humidity 8 to 18% will mean we are facing critical weather conditions, especially with dry vegetation in place. we will have a closer look at what to expect, coming up. crist ukristin kristin? >> a new plan for reducing illegal trash dumping on roads and creeks. >> it's a problem that eats up a lot of money and time. abc 7 news anchor is live at public works offices in marti z martinez. eric. >> it can cost $50 a month if you want trash hauled away. if you want to take it to the landfill, it costs $75 or more. some people decide to dump it. the county wishes you wouldn't. >> it's an eyesore. >> it's that and a lot more.

>> it starts with household trash, but you can furnish a whole house with the stuff you find. >> dumping is clearly visible, even at the no dumping signs. >> this has been sitting here for about two months, at least. this pile right here. >> tim and megan drive this road almost every day and they are not happy with the view. >> you see mattresses and refrigerators and washers and driers. it's disgusting how people just dump trash and think they can get away with it. >> it's a problem with all 680 miles of roads. >> the county's public works department said his crews pick up trash at the trouble spots at least once a month. when it comes to keeping up -- >> buyer we can't. >> with the health officials, they spent months putting together this report. it shows the county spent $1.2 million picking up illegally dumped trash. dumps spots rose from 2016 to 2017 and projected to rise

another 5% this year. the report recommends educating people about things like yearly bulk waste pick up provided without charge once or twice a year and dropping the legal hammer on illegal dumpers. >> we are looking at ideas like how can we increase the penalty. how can we take away a person's vehicle who is caught dumping illegally? >> penalty would be one part education and prevention and removal would be other parts. the current fine is $1,000 if you are caught. that's a lot of money for a homeowner, but for an illegal or unlicensed contractor, they may be willing to take a risk of getting away with it enough times that $1,000 wouldn't be that bad. eric thomas, abc 7 news. >> eric, thank you. >> still ahead at 5:00, hotel strike one month later.

officer-involved shooting involving the vallejo police department. >> no officers were hurt. 22nd avenue and international boulevard is blocked off. you can see why. all this activity. we understand the suspect is being taken to the hospital for medical attention, but the police have not said how the suspect was hurt. >> they treated someone on the ground near an suv on the curb in front of the community school for creative education. that school is on lockdown, but police are letting parents pick up their kids from the 21st avenue exit. >> marriott hotel workers had been on strike for one month. they are demanding higher pay. >> that's right and elected leaders want to intervene. david lui is live from the san jose marriott with the latest. david? >> reporter: dan and kristin, those on the picket line here in san jose and san francisco have been without a contract since july. now in their fourth week into

the strike for better pay and better benefits, they say san francisco officials are getting concerned because they are worried about how it could have an impact on tourism and economy. marriott said they hoped to resolve many months ago and said they remain committed to negotiating in good faith. >> the strike at the san jose marriott and seven other hotels involves around 2700 union representative employees. the lack of progress prompted hillary ronan to convene a special hearing tomorrow. marriott international's president and ceo was invited, but said he won't a tent. replacement workers are being bussed at $17 an hour, hired by a contractor. in san jose with 200 workers on the ticket line, it appears managers are doing the work. >> it's a lot of management

level people from other hotels have been working here. also some temp workers. >> a spokesperson for marriott's corporate office did not respond to questions about business loss because of the strike. a 16-year marriott employee believes the hotel has been impacted. >> we heard the restaurants are closed and they are only serving breakfast in the morning for the elite guests. they are closed for lunch and dinner because all the servers are outside. >> that was confirmed by a guest. >> the restaurants are closed, but they have a commissary where you can get coffee and sandwiches. not full-service, but it works. >> local 19 in san jose including cooks, bus people and housekeepers. >> who is making up your room? >> that i don't know. it will be interesting to see what happens when i get back. >> negotiations are continuing.

71 in san francisco and most areas this afternoon managed to get up into the 80s and even a 90 showing up in gilroy. that was a record for gilroy. good day to be in santa cruz to hit the beach. only in the bay area can you do that in november. look at the temperature trend. livermore's high is 71. tomorrow you are going to be cooler. saturday temperatures come back up and then if you are waiting for cooler weather that feels more like late fall, coming up next week especially, you will see the 70s returning. a live look from the abc 7 news, a nice day to go out sailing. cooler tomorrow afternoon and fire danger increases this weekend. it's still clear, but watch the fog rolling back in and pushing in from tomorrow morning's commute. locally over the bay that means watch out. visibility will be poor and the fog gets swept away for the afternoon hours.
