but still a few details about what led up to the chase and the crash. oakland police taking the lead tonight in a chase that began 30 miles away in vallejo. >> the caller knew the person and is a very credible witness, has known the person for a long time. >> reporter: that witness police say tipped them off. reporting that the suspect was armed and parked in front of their house. when police arrived, the suspect took off, leading police on a high-speed chase from vallejo to oakland. speeds of over 100 miles per hour. >> vehicles, a toyota 4 runner that they're chasing. he is known to carry an uzi and handguns, has full body arm. >> once on oakland streets, the driver crashed. when he tried to get out of his suv, the police fired multiple shots. he was taken to the hospital with unknown zwlirks were still kids leaving the after school program but they said everything was safe at the school. >> reporter: parker says his son goes to a nearby school. his big concern, the high-speed chase through his neighborhood. >> got to be careful with those

chase scenes. i think after 30 miles if you can't stop a person, you need to regroup and find another way to do it. >> reporter: but captain horton says it's a tough call, especially when dealing with a suspect known to be heavily armed and wearing body armor. >> of course pursuits are dangerous, but so is a person with assault rifles and pistols and putting more people in danger. so it's sort of a judgment call. it's a difficult decision that the voofrs to make. >> the police captain says one officer suffered minor injury, but no one else was hurt in the chase or the crash. they still haven't released any details about the suspect or his injuries. reporting live in oakland, anser hassan, abc 7 news. >> thank you. an unprecedented move bay 49ers cheerleader tonight. the cheerleader took a knee during the national anthem ahead of the team's game against the raiders at levi's stadium. it's believed she is the first professional cheerleader to protest this way. the cheerleader hasn't been identified. former 49ers quarterback colin kaepernick was the first to take

a knee during the anthem in 2016, he said to protest police brutality. google employees across the bay area and around the world staged a massive walkout today. they accused to company of mishandling sexual misconduct allegations against executives. it's in response to last week's "new york times" article that detailed how some executives were given multimillion-dollar severance packages. abc 7 news reporter amanda del castillo is live in mountain view with more. >> it's no secret the silicon valley has great global impact and influence. we saw that today as thousands of googlers walked out of work in the latest and seemingly chps the silicon valley was once touted as the golden child of american industry. the tech capital is back in the headlines, this time for google's handling of sexual allegations against the so-called father of rubin. sky 7 captured this crowd of googlers pouring out and

according to "the times," it reportedly granted rubin a severance package worth $90 million. as you saw in the story, abc 7 news was also overhead and on the ground at the embarcadero in san francisco. many googlers tell us there are still plenty stories of sexual misconduct that remain untold. i'm live in mountain view tonight, amanda del castillo, abc 7 news. >> amanda, thank you. this map shows the locations of google offices around the globe where employees walked out today. the walkouts happened gradually at 11:10 local time. the first walkout was in singapore. it's unclear how many people took part, but google spokesperson says the office has more than a thousand employees. there were several walkouts in europe. this image is from the london office. back here in the u.s., hundreds of people walked off the job in new york city. not far away at a "new york times" event, google's ceo sundar pichai talked about the walkouts. >> we are listening to employees. that's partly why today is important, and, you know, i think there are concrete steps

abc 7 news is committed to building a better bay area, and that means we're putting more time, more resources and reporting issues that impact your quality of life. we're looking at both problems and the solutions. in contra costa, a special task force is taking on illegal dumping along roads and creeks. last year it cost the county $1.2 million to clean up the trash. one solution is to educate people on their options to have jump hauled her coming down harn illegal dumpers. >> part of this task force we're looking at ideas like how with committee increase the penalty. how can we take away a person's vehicle who is caught dumping illegally. >> currently the fine is 1 thousand dollars.

when i first came to ocean bay, what i saw was despair. i knew something had to be done. hurricane sandy really woke people up, to showing that we need to invest in this community. i knew having the right partner we could turn this place around. it was only one bank that could finance a project this difficult and this large, and that was citi. preserving affordable housing preserves communities. so we are doing their kitchens and their flooring and their lobbies and the grounds. and the beautification of their homes, giving them pride in where they live, will make this a thriving community once again. ♪

check this out. a rare mandarin duck in new york's central park has bird watchers all aflutter. according to goth mist, the duck first showed up several weeks ago, but it's a mystery how it even got there. it's native to east asia and is rarely seen in north america, and it doesn't migrate. the most likely answer of course is it was someone's escaped pet. they had planned to capture the bird, but today they decided to let it be. >> new york is a tough town.
