zbrs now from abc 7, live breaking news. good morning, earn. i'm chris nguyen. breaking news out of oakland where the northbound lanes much 8807 near 23rd avenue are closed. you can see why here. a 28-year-old woman from hayward was speeding, lost control and crashed into support beams. she has been arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence. the beams were holding girders of the new overpass being constructed. the girders fell across all four northbound lanes of interstate 880. the woman suffered non-life threatening injuries. officers matthew hammer joins us on the phone. this happened at re almosthoammer th coti an investigation right now. >> that's correct we currently have the multidisciplinary accident investigation team on scene. what they're doing is taking me

they can reconstruct the accident before, during and after the collision. once they clear up- once they get the measurements we have caltrans come in move the heavy equipment to move the steel girders clean up the debris and get the freeway open so commuters can get to where they are going. >> officer, hammer we know the driver has been arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence. as of right now, though, no other injuries to report to either -- to anyone else besides the driver. is that correct? >> that's correct. this was a solo vehicle collision. it was just the one female driver in the vehicle. and she sustained non-life threatening injuries. >> officer, if you could, talk to me about the traffic backup happening now on the interstate. this is a very popular stretch of freeway as people begin the weekend. >> that's very correct.

880 northbound and southbound are both kind of vital lines of travel for residents of the bay area and people coming in and out of the area. when you shut down all four lanes we are diverting traffic on 23rd avenue going to one lane off ramp and back on the freeway. this is having extremely increasing commute times. it's pretty much bringing it to a stand still here. >> and in terms of detour recommendations, i mean, people can certainly take the surface streets. but another option is to take southbound 880 and make your -- especially from oakland or from the east bay to san francisco maybe down southbound and connect through one of the bridges? >> exactly. if you are going to the peninsula, you know, try to take 92, san mateo bridge. if you have to come up to oakland, you can take interstate 580. we are allowing big trucks and semis to drive on 580 at this time. if you can, avoid 880 at all

cost. >> and we are looking at images from earlier this morning. a lot of debris on the roadways. >> that's correct. you know when the motorist hit the support beam it pretty much just was an explosion of wood and metal all over the freeways here. >> and we also see that the -- it appears to be the driver's vehicle flipped onto its side. has that vehicle been removed from the scene yet? >> that vehicle was removed from the scene about 15 minutes ago. >> okay. all right. breaking details, again, this is involving closures of northbound 880 lanes through oakland. the chp is currently there. officer hammer with the highway patrol we appreciate your time. i want to take a live look at the traffic mess throughout the area. wow, a cal advance camera at 66th avenue by the oakland coliseum and oracle arena. you can see that traffic is moving very slowly right now.

firefighters battled in fire in western sonoma county just before 9:00 last night about half an acre of grass burned. this is video from an observation camera set up to spot wildfires. the press democrat reports firefighters were able to save the home on the property. but a large pool cabin aire was destroyed. in concord a new class of firefighters just learned how to fight structure fires as their teachers planned for the red flag warning. abc 7 news anchor eric thomas went to the training center and learned this is becoming the new norm. >> reporter: today's lesson plan, make a high pressure inch and a half fire hose bend to your will or navigate a dark unfamiliar structure looking for flames and fire victims. the training is tough on mind and body. >> i thought i was in pretty good shape coming in. and i was. but they had challenged us every single day, both in the gym and on the training grounds. >> while the recruits train for a structure fire the teachers plan for a weekend of high fire
