when deputies arrived, they searched the season and searched the area with the assistance of chp helicopter. they were unable to locate the suspect. the suspect fled the scene. the immediate area is secure. the area, no one is in danger currently in the immediate area. >> reporter: he later explained what they mean by that, they are convincing the murderer is out of here, escaped the area. they consider it safe for all who live in this area.

sylvia road. that's where they are doing their investigation. it looks like that's where the shooting happened. we know what happened inside the helen vine detox center. they have not made any arrests. sheriffs deputies got the call 1:30 this morning. they got here and found three people had been shot. a triple shooting. two men and one woman. when they arrived they determined that one man was dead. one of the victims had passed away. they did get the other man and woman transported to the hospital. they said they did search the area for a suspect as early as they could. they even brought in a chp helicopter to search from above. they have determine that this area is safe. they don't think anyone is in jeopardy at this point because they think the shooter got away. they don't know the motive or what role these victims or the

gunman possibly played at the detox center. i did ask if patients live here. the spokesman told me, yes. they are not being evacuated. they do have their staff here to help those people process what has happened here. we're still trying to -- waiting to hear what a possible motive was. also waiting for details approximate the victims, their ages, names. they are still working to identify them. so still some details yet to come. investigators say they think they are going to be out here all day. reporting live in san rafael, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> amy, thanks for the update. the helen vine recovery center is owned by a facility based in san rafael. they operate in lake, marin, mendocino, napa, and sonoma counties. it is funded by county mental health department and fees paid for by clients. your voice, your vote. campaigning right up to election day.
