morning and that's where he died. he had health issues recently. lee is a legend in the comic book area. he created spiderman, black panther, x-man, ironman and the avenge jers. he made cameo appearances in all of the marvel movies. his cause of death is not known at this time. disney is the parent company of abc 7 and marvel. matt keller abc 7 news. >> thank you so much. now we get to our other top story, the california wild fires. here are the latest numbers on the campfire. the state's most destructive and one of the deadliest. take a look at this map. 29 deaths are now being blamed on the campfire burning. the wild fire has burned 113,000 acres. it's only 25% contained. now we want to give you some perspective on the size of the campfire. so take a look at this. if the campfire was burning in the bay area here, it would

cover an extensive part of san jose. right now it covers 176 square miles. and as abc shows us, crews are just beginning to sift through the rubble. >> reporter: to understand why the death toll continues to jum u te of the devastation. we're not just talking about blocks like this, burnt to the ground, we're talking about an entire city that's been wiped off the map. search crews are actually combing through miles upon miles of rubble here, looking for the missing because there's still more than 200 people that are missing after this fire, which is the most destructive ever in california's history, it destroyed more than 6,7 homes and buildings and many of the first responders have been out here working around the clock. we've learned that more than 90 actually had their homes destroyed in this fire. and they have lost everything. in paradise, california, will

carr, abc news. >> fire is still affecting our air quality here in the bay area. you can tell just by looking at the shot of the bay bridge. so mike, when is the relief coming? >> that's a great question. it's going to be a few days. if you haven't, get that mask. this is where we're going to see for at least the next four days. this is a live shot from walnut creek. we're unhealthy in the north bay, inland east bay, only the santa clara valley is poor, if you will. that's those most likely to have something that would make them susceptible to the air pollution, whether it's the young, the elderly or asthmatics. there's your color coating on the left in the red, that's unhealthy for all of us. now let's take a look at what's going to happen today. outdoor activities, not really recommended. it's dangerous at the beaches or exercising or out and about unless you have a mask on to save you from the smoke. the $64,000 questions, now it's like the million dollar

question -- >> inflation. >> when is it going to get better? >> i think after thursday, the upper level winds will start blowing out of the west and that will start pushing the smoke away from us. so we've got today, tomorrow, wednesday and thursday still kristen. >> thanks mike. smoke from the campfire continues to choke the bay area, it's forcing people to reach for their masks if they can find one. abc news reporter is live in san francisco. we usually see a lot of runners and tourists out there at about this hour. >> yeah. a lot of 350epeople that we tal to today, they're surprised the smoke has stayed as long as it has. you can see the haze bind me. these masks you were talking about, kristen, people have them on today. but others say they're planning to ride them out without one. >> what's typically a picturesque spot is clouded with a smoky sky. >> i have lived in the bay area

over 35 years, except for the oakland hills fire storms and the napa fires, i can't remember consistent smoke like this. >> as commuters moved into the city, they were peppered with people in masks. >> it feels eerie and worrisome and the sun looks so funny and the moon as well. >> reporter: the air quality is still considered unhealthy to breathe. the air concentration sunday was almost identical to the first day of impact on november 8th. >> i can feel it in my throat. a lot of people said they've had headaches. >> reporter: phil powell came in from napa. >> it's probably worse there. it's probably thicker. like i said, the air quality index is 160, but i'm surprised how thick it is down here, too. >> reporter: powell says he has plenty of n-95 masks left over from the north bay fire. people are recommended to wear the masks outside now but that doesn't replace spending time indoors. >> if i see everybody on the street start wearing it, i'm

probably going to wear one, too. >> reporter: officials obviously don't support that philosophy and light winds expected for the week, all of this will be stick around. >> some peopleg wnhese we d shelters in the area that are giving these away for free. >> thank you. despite the thick smoke, it looks like tonight's 49ers game in santa clara will go on as scheduled. the nfl was considering moving the game from levi stadium or post posting to thursday night. but any decision would have to be made no later than 24 hours before kickoff, we're now six hours from the game starting so looks like it's on. you'll watch the niners at 5:00 p.m. right here on abc 7 take on the giants. this morning, president trump thanked crews. he tweeted the california firefighters, fema and first

responders are amazing and very brave. thank you and god bless you all. president trump was criticized, of course, over the weekend after sending out a tweet blaming california wild fires on poor forest management. he also threatened to cut federal aid. meanwhile, governor brown is still waiting for word on whether president trump will honor his request for major disaster declaration. a reminder, stay on top of the wild fires with the abc 7 news mobile app. it's free to down load. be sure to enable push alerts to get breaking news updates. we have breaking news in southern california, a new brush fire burning just outside the woolsy fire zone. the peek fire started this morning along highway 118 in semi valley. authorities are reporting at least 10 acres burned so far. now to the two larger fires in southern california, firefighters are slowly making progress. the woolsy fire burned 92,000 acres. the hill fire is at 4,500. abc news reporter natalie

brunell is live with more in ventura county. >> reporter: kristen, we're already smelling that latest fire, the peek fire burning to the north of us in semi valley. the blue sky is turning a little bit gray. i want to show you the destruction behind me in oak park. firefighters able to make some good progress over the weekend, but now we're in that red flag warning today with more high winds and bone dry conditions already sparking new fires. over the weekend, a fierce battle against the relentless woolsy fire. >> right now we're seeing a great retardant drop right on that line. >> reporter: firefighters gaining ground but bracing for a new round of bone dry santa ana winds looking to fuel the erratic fire. >> i'm surrounded by fire. >> reporter: at one point, a quarter of a million people under mandatory evacuation orders. in malibu, sprawling ocean side mansions reduced to ash. entire neighborhoods obliterated. >> you come up into this community now and it looks like

it's a war zone of just demolished, burnt up houses. >> this is not the new normal. this is the new abnormal. n t woolsy fire has destroyed 370 buildings just like this one. it is now 20% contained, but again, firefighters just so concerned about the high santa ana winds today that are starting new fires. so we are not in the clear just yet. >> natalie, thank you. other news now, people in napa came together this morning to remember a vintage high school graduate killed in the thousands oaks shooting. 18-year-old housely was killed last week. the community lined the streets as her body returned home yesterday. housley was a freshman at pepperdine university. she graduated from vintage high earlier this year. >> knowing the way she passed

the man suspected of sending mail bombs to prominent democrats is due in court tomorrow. cesar sayoc is held without bond after prosecutors argue he is a flight risk and poses a danger to the community. he faces five federal charges. prosecutors say he sent at least 16 mail bombs including tom stier from san francisco. if convicted, sayoc faces a maximum sentence of 48 years in prison. two navy pilots are safe after crashing in the philippine sea. it happened overnight northeast of the philippines. the navy says they were in a combat jet when it had some kind of mechanical problem. a rescue plan was about to get -- able to get the pilots out of the water and back on the ship quickly. u.s.s. ronald ragen in less than

a month. nearly a week after the midterm elections, many national races across the country are still undecided. in florida a statewide mandatory recount is under way with both the senate and governor's races down to razor thin margins. abc elizabeth her has the latest. recounting ballots, by law a recount is mandatory when races are within half a percentage point. the race for governor, meeting that threshold and democrat andrew gillum, who admitted defeat on election night is now resending his concession. >> i am replacing my words of concession with an uncompromised and unapologetic call that we count every single vote. >> reporter: but his republican opponent ron desantis not backing down. >> since the election a few days ago, we have begun our transition efforts to build an administration that can secure

florida's future. >> reporter: the senate race in florida even tighter with current governor rick scott leading his democratic opponent bill nelson by some 12,500 votes. scott, on fox news on sunday. >> senator nelson is clearly trying to commit fraud to try to win this ewelcome back. >> rick scott is trying to stop all the votes from being counted and he's impeding the democratic process. >> lawsuits have now been filed with president trump weighing in, claiming fraud without proof, tweeting this morning large numbers of new ballots showed up out of nowhere and many ballots are missing or foerjed. must go with election night. meanwhile, in georgia, the race for governor could be headed to a runoff or a potential recount. the senate race in arizona also remains undecided with thousands of ballots still being counted. elizabeth her, abc news, new york. in the south bay striking marriott workers ended their

now your accuweather forecast with mike nicco. >> check out the sunrise this morning, looks just like the one i had friday for you. look at the smoke impeding the sunshine this morning with a beautiful color, but i can do without the color if the smoke goes away. how about you? the smoke is so thick it's showing up on our visibility layer. three in oakland and hayward. san carlos, flight arrival delays because the visibility was so low and two in concord. san jose at six and slightly better air quality than the

south bay. poor air quality will take over your neighborhoods. it will be mild. just make sure you're not out there too long. the unhealthy air i believe will be here through at least thursday. the wind starts to shift friday, come out of the west and push that smoke to the east away from us. we have to wait nearly nine days for that. let's talk about what's going on right now. we have upper 50s through the north way. even the 65 at clear lake. low to mid 60s in other neighborhoods, even 70s showing up already at half-moon bay. temperatures today will be in the upper 60s to low 70s from 67 in san mateo and 74 in santa rosa. fairfield and san jose and also freemont in the low 70s. what the smoke is actually doing is keeping the sun from maximizing this warming and that's why we're not quite as warm as we were last week. we're in the same pattern. it's just that sunshine is not as strong because of all this muck in the air. we're in the mid to upper 60s at

noon. if you're heading out, now 4:00 still in the upper 60s everywhere. once that sunsets, we'll cool off quickly, low to mid 50s today. high clouds tonight. we won't be quite as cool as we were this morning. there's a lot of frost in the north bay and east the bay with san francisco 48 the warm spot. let's jump ahead because we desperately need something new in the weather. this latest model was is not as robust as it was this morning for the same time. tuesday into wednesday, one storm comes through bringing us the chance of healthy much-needed rain. do you see where it turned th peak white in the mountains. here is my accuweather seven-day forecast. expect temperatures to stay the course. look at that, mid 60s at the
