the fire flares up in a ferocious way. they are issuing residents to evacuate at moments notice. thanks for joining us. new fires are breaking out as part of the fire which is burning in los angeles and ventura counties. it is 35% contained. here is some more video we have in just an hour ago our sister station says this flare up is burning outside of thousand oaks about 50 acres burned so far. we have seeing a major aerial

attack. flames dropping retardant. people that live downwind are being to be told to be ready evacuate. we'll take you live to southern california in a few minutes for the very latest on the resurgence of this fire. now to northern california and the campfire burning this morning the death toll has been raised 42 confirmed. the fire is 30% contained and burned 125,000 acres, that's 195 square miles. this map gives you an idea of what 195 square miles will look like here. it will cover oakland stretching all the way to hayward and reaching lafayette in the east. we have more on the campfire from one of the hardest hit areas. >> more than 200 people missing in the campfire. it looks like a bomb exploded. it made it prescrar hino b ihh

looking for more bodies. even buildings have been reduced to rubble. this is filled with carnage and we are hearing stories of survival. we spoke to one man that is still living here. amazingly his home was untouched during the fire. he did not evacuate because his mother was 90 and blind. he pulled out a hose and started watering down his property. he thought his entire family was going to die. in a split second the flames turned and headed in a different direction. he is up here living among all of this devastation. his entire neighborhood has been reduced to

this map identifying the damaged and destroyed structures. most have been labeled with a red dot. an image is attached to many of them. smoke continues to choke the bay area. we look at it and we can tell it is awful. so when is this going to subside? you can see about two-thirds of our neighborhoods in the red and the other third would be in the orange which is poor for those that have asthma or

issue the orange is for the most sensitive. those will be feeling the effects also as we head throughout today, tomorrow, thursday and friday. i wouldn't be surprised if there will be a sprinkling of reds in that area. starting friday winds will start to shift instead of coming out of the north. it is bringing that smoke to us. it will push the smoke to points eastward. we'll have humidity rising which means the air won't be nearly as dry. after that we have rain on the way. >> all right. thank you. can't wait for that. >> bay area schools wrestle with how to keep kids safe. several schools have shut down their campuses. we are live with what's happening there. >> the principal just stepped out of the district office and told us at this very moment

all right. let's start with the way it looked this morning. we had smoke, clouds and a lot of color. look at this. you can see the impending sunrise wash across the under side of those clouds. just like that it was gone and we are dealing with ugly skies recause of the smoke out t y f can you? >> if you're heading out here are the temperatures you need to dress for, mainly mid-to upper 50s. half-moon bay at 53. it is 62 in morgan hill. it is still because of the reduction in visibility by that smoke. it is not going any where any time soon. that combined with high clouds, even cooler highs today, that's what it takes to get our

temperatures back to average. that's pretty sad. if that's not the sign of the weather climate nothing else is. high clouds leaving. a touch cooler tomorrow morning. the cleaner air and chances of rain. let's talk about temperatures this afternoon. some 70s out there. san jose at 70. morgan hill at 73. the rest of us around 65 to 69 degrees. look at that. you can barely see maybe a mile, maybe two because of the haze and smoke that's out there. low 60s at noon and mid-60s at 4:00. once that sunsets we are down around 50 or so. by to 51.
