good morning and thanks for joining us on this sunday, november 18th. i'm matt keller. we'll start with a look at the weather. >> hey, there, matt. low clouds and fog making their way into the bay. live doppler 7 showing the indication of that in the middle of the bay. visibility with smog, haze and fog with less than a mile in livermore, two miles in the north bay, three miles in the peninsula and north bay. air quality issues continue with the worst unhealthy, napa,

concord, san jose with sensitive groups being impacted. in the orange, san francisco, oakland, and san jose. as we look at the smoke forecast, the lighter conditions are around san francisco. that means the haze and smoke yesterday in the orange. it's slightly better, the on shore push is stronger with low clouds and fog but tomorrow and tuesday, very little change. area of high pressure is beginning to depart. that's the good news. between now and wednesday, we'll stay in an unhealthy category with spare the air today and tomorrow. temperatures cold. 31 napa, 46 fremont and a mix of clouds and sun and haze today. we do have rain to talk about. in fact, looking forward to several days of that coming up, matt. >> thanks. while air quality is slowly improving, many people are still wearing their masks. in somepla places they are gett

harder and harder to come by. cornell bernard shows us the mad dash for masks. >> reporter: the line is long at ace hardware. almost every customer in search of the same thing. >> 95 masks. >> reporter: parent gail sherman can't wait for the masks she ordered on amazon to arrive. >> it's gone on for days and i want to guard my family's health. >> reporter: how many are you buying? >> five. >> reporter: five is the limit and they posted a sign the store has gone to great lengths to keep the masks in stock. >> one of our employees drove to bakersfield, a warehouse in bakersfield to acquire more. >> reporter: finding masks was not easy for jerry and his e went out las and cvs and walgreens sold out. >> reporter: the unhealthy air remains smoky and thick in most parts. >> we want everybody to hang in there and protect yourself, your children and pets by staying

inside. >> reporter: santa clara county made clean air centers available where there is bigger crowds than usual for a saturday. monica brought her kids. >> we're having cabin fever being stuck indoors for the last nine to ten days. >> reporter: most outdoor activities have all been cancelled across the bay area. >> it's impacting people in interesting ways and reminding us how little control we have in life. >> some bay area students will have unexpected days off this week. santa clara cancelled classes because of the air quality. school plans to stay closed and mills college will be closed through tuesday. we're scan staconstantly updati list as news comes in. happening today, senator cameca camilla harris will visit the areas affected. some evacuees who have been

living in this walmart parking lot may have to find a new place. it's been an evacuation zone for dozens of victims. walmart gave them a 1:00 p.m. deadline today. one organization called making change at walmart is fighting back and asking the company to help the families. walmart is working with the red cross to get evacuees into indoor shelters. this is one day after president trump visited the fire zones on both ends of the state. he started in butte county. the death toll is now 76 with the expectation it can rise again. 1300 people remain unawe conacc for. some names are on the list twice due to spelling variations. the fire is 55% contained. president trump saw the

devastation up close with governor jerry you have a lot o factors. we have the manageent factor i know jerry is up on well gavin, we'll be looking at it together. >> federal aid is coming in. something not lost on governor brown. >> thanks to the firefighters and first responders and thanks to the federal government, fema has been terrific and i really appreciate the president himself being here. >> cal fire hopes to have the campfire fully contained by the end of the month. while politicians put their differences aside, there were residents that did not approve of the president's visit to bute as carlos reports. >> reporter: the gathering of high political figures visiting a disaster is common but seeing

president trump with governor brown and gavin newsome was significant. the positive gesture not lost. part of his community decimated by the camp fire. >> people come together for what is important and what is important is taking care of my people. >> reporter: it on the victims and first responders. as the president's motorcade made its way to the incident base in chicco, trump waved to dozens that lined the street. many supporters but there were a few protesters. >> i don't see any reason for him to come here. the whole town is trying to mobilize to help people who had to evacuate and now all these resources are sent here to try to protect him. >> i'm not going to walk away. >> reporter: growing tensions led to shouting matches between both sides. >> i will lay you out.

king to identify aceived from t jose. that's not far from levi stadium where one fan mysteriously disappeared last week. santa clara police were notified right away. >> boaters made the grusome discovery of a man's body saturday afternoon. >> i was told it was a mile out from the boat ramp. >> reporter: sheriff's office, divers recovered the body. >> i believe the body was visible because of the low tide and recovered the body, the tide is coming in now. >> reporter: the police jurisdiction but a call was made to santa clara police. >> this may be a missing person related to one of their events. >> reporter: a high-profile missing person is 34-year-old ian powers.

he lives in pospokane, washingt. this is him leaving levi stadium monday night. he attended the game with his girlfriend and two children. the two were separated at the game. >> he went to the bathroom and then got lost or something happened. >> reporter: santa clara police tracked his cell phone to a parking lot. his car was abandoned and none of his credit cards have been used since. police have called his disappearance suspicious. >> it's incredibly unlike him. i said this before, he's probably the most responsible person in my family. >> reporter: a witness said that powers' family was handing out flyers at the marina this afternoon. i reached out to them and they had no update at this time. again, the coroner's office is working to positively identify the body that has been found. in the newsroom, katy utis. now to the investigation into this fire in vallejo.

you can see the flames inside the building. it broke out on georgia street around 6:30 last night. that building houses businesses on the ground floor and apartments on the upper floors. they called for extra crews. crews were able to get it under control. no word on what sparked it. lisa joins us. we have bad air quality here and fog, as well. >> that's right. more fog and cold temperatures to start out. hazy afternoon sun and you can see from this live camera how the fog is obscuring the buildings. it is 51 downtown with 40 in concord and 40 santa rosa. a few more days until we see a big change, welcome rain heading their way and you'll see it on the seven-day outlook. >> an event calling attention to something that happens on the streets of san francisco multiple times a day. the signs organizers have been hanging around the city all week. helping pets injured in the camp fire. the former first couple

good morning, here is a live look from the roof camera. there is fog and smoke, as well. it's combining to make it an interesting morning in san francisco. abc 7 news is committed to biddi building a better bay area. we're trying to find solutions to have a better quality of life. one of those is traffic deaths. vehicles hit three pedestrians on average every day. today the lives of those injured or killed on the street will be remembered. here is ama daetz. >> reporter: the sign says it all, a 57-year-old person walking died after getting hit here.llis and

jones street, similar signs have been going up all around san francisco. >> we're putting up signs around the city to honor people who have been killed in traffic cashes in 2018. >> reporter: these people were killed or seriously injured while walking across the street or riding a bicycle. kathy from walk s.f. put up this sign in memory of russell franklin killed in september as he crossed howard street. >> we call them accidents. we act like they are a normal part of getting around the city but they are not. >> it was a predictable crash. >> reporter: predictable because this is a high energy corridor. the city installed a yield sign and painted the crosswalk. san francisco has initiated similar projects under vision zero. it's a ten-year plan to eliminate traffic deaths in the city by 2024. other traffic safety projects under taken are the instillation of speed humps, protected bike lanes and extending crosswalks with white plastic paddles.

the goal is to slow motorists down and it seems to be working. last ar the were 20 traffic deaths in the city. that's the lowest total in san francisco's history and a 50% drop since 2015 when there were 31 deaths. amanda lamb was almost the 32nd death that year. >> my body summer salted through the air and flew about 30 feet. >> reporter: amanda was crossing webster street when a car making a left turn crashed into her. she finds it difficult to come back to the intersection but she came back this week to post a sign marking the crash. >> to see that i am one of the people who did survive, it makes me feel really fortunate but also makes me think about all of the other people we're putting signs up for that they are not putting up their own sign. >> reporter: ama daetz, abc 7 news. today's memorial visugil wi begin at 3:00 this afternoon in san francisco. the walk is cancelled because of

the bad air quality. a bay area search and rescue team is headed up to the campfire. abc 7 news was in palo alto yesterday. tasks forces made up of 45 team members strained to respotraine disasters like this one. >> our primary purpose in going up there, we'll assist with the effort to locate any individuals that are still missing. so essentially, we're looking at 1200 structures. >> one of the members compared this mission to when they were called in for hurricane katrina. the team will be in butte county for as long as needed. >> the san francisco spca is asking for help i'dentifying pets. many animals are recovering from burns. the spca needs help finding the owners. the organization posted a gallery on its facebook page. so far they tracked down four owners. the spca is encouraging people to donate money.

they are matching gifts up to $1 million. young musicians showcase talents to help people impacted by california's wildfires. >> abc 7 was watching marching bands. all of them were planning to participate in a statewide competition. the event was cancelled due to air quality. >> knowing that it affected us all, you know, that we can't perform, you know, on the field, we thought this was a great way that we can give back and still get that performing experience and get the kids the opportunity to play in front of people. >> last night's show featured bands from fremont and more. hi, everyone. sunday morning, live doppler 7, more fog and low clouds over the bay and into the north bay as well but the air quality remains

unchanged. we're under the stagnant ridge of high pressure. it will be affected by wet weather systems as soon as tuesday night. red flag warnings up for the sierra nevada, west slopes, blue canyon, 20 to 45 mile an hour winds with humidity 18 to 20%. it's cold but not as cold as yesterday. 30 in the north bay and 33 hayward and 43 danville with 46 in oakland. so we've got fog and the haze and the smoke. that doesn't change really until tuesday. then the rain approaches the coast. you'll see rain arriving for everyone on wednesday. it should be tapering off and then more rain into friday and it looks like next weekend will be dry. so the air quality continues ar getting slightly better beforei. you notice the dots on the map. the red indicates unhealthy air. you go to the mountains, it's

better there and better the go looking at wind. but also will help clear things out in advance of the rain. here it is tuesday afternoon where the winds begin to really start in the north bay but by wednesday morning with the rain, check it out. 20 to 30 mile an hour winds and this will continue to push into the bay area with the rain and then we'll see a break before the next system. so we bring in the storm impact scale. it's a one from wednesday to friday. anywhere from a half inch to an inch in the north bay bringing cleaner air and start tuesday night at 10:00. there is the rain offshore and pushes through by midnight on thanksgiving. it's snow in the mountains then behind it a break. here we go friday morning into friday afternoon. the next wave of rain up to over an inch in the north bay and looks like next weekend is dry. the timing pretty good if you're traveling back to school or work by next weekend but in terms of the first wave, quarter of an

inch by wednesday. wednesday night up to a half inch. and then as we get into thanksgiving that's when the rain begins again overnight into friday. inch and a half in the north bay looking pretty aggressive. it would be nice to see two inches. more likely two inches in the north bay and elsewhere. but still, looks great for how dry we are and to clear out the atmosphere and say good-bye to all this haze and smoke. highs today underneath the fog, the haze cool in the 60s. 61 oakland and 63 fremont and san jose. we haven't seen much change in terms of the temperature. the winds are light and we will begin to look at conditions changing a little bit as we get into tuesday, late in the day. 40 oakland, 30 santa rosa and another chilly one. unhealthy air quality today and tomorrow. download the accuweather app and you'll see the rain arrives with the cool temperatures, great for the snow in the mountains

the yellows have pushed off to the north and gave us a slight improvement yesterday but today things remain unchanged, high pressure in command but really not going to the ridge promoves out of town. things begin to change. you'll notice on wednesday, we have moderate air quality because rain is on the way. it's cold, 30s in the fornorth and 40s elsewhere and a mix of fog to start out and hazy afternoon sun. cool day with low to mid 60s and looking at numbers dropping off again tonight. more days of rain in my seven-day outlook than dry and we'll detail how much in a few minutes matt. >> thanks, lisa. many people are spending a lot of time inside with the bad air quality. abc 7 news was in the library where masks yesterday. the library gave away free

masks. they did tell us the building's air is filtered and safe for them being outdoors. alameda's main library will be open 1:ocho -- 1:00 to alcatraz has been closed all weekend and the oakland zoo. today's half marathon will be rescheduled for february or march and the 49ers run is also cancelled. all the smoke from the campfire is creating problems for firefighters say the alarms and detectors are functioning like they should but at the same time, it's not an actual fire that's setting them off. many firefighters are already working over time. the extra calls are putting additional strain on staff. >> they are doing exactly what they were designed and meant to do. unfortunately, with this drift smoke going through the valley,

good morning. here is a live look from the abc 7 camera at the golden gate bridge and it looks like we got fog out there this morning and the smoke, as well. happening today, an east bay church will host a prethanksgiving meal for the homeless. it will hold the fourth annual ma meal today. clothing and grocery bags will be given away. you can still donate. the event runs from 9:00 until 3:00. san francisco's winter shelter program for the homeless opens today. spaces are available for single

good morning, here is a live look from the toll pla sza. in the south bay people showed up to watch a college football game. abc 7 news was in san jose. popular accessory for fans to go with the blue and gold, an air mask to protect themselves. this is one of the few sporting vents that was not postponed or cancelled because of the air quality yesterday. one family came to support a relative playing in the game and decided not to wear masks. >> for us coming out here and seeing this, there is concern but we figured it's only for an hour so we'll be okay, but although, long-term we don't know what the impact will be. >> yesterday was senior day. in sports this afternoon, the raiders will try to snap a five-game losing streak. silver and black face the

arizona cardinals at state farm stadium. kick off is at 1:05. 49ers have a buy this weekend. the warriors will try to salvage the final game. the doves take on the spurs at 4:00 p.m. golden state, abc 7 sports anchor mindy balk has highlights. >> good morning, i thought i'd never say this but the warriors are trying to find themselves right now. stephon curry and green are hurt. steve kerr says the warriors are hurting physically and spiritually. curry missed a game with a groin injury. his brother missed the second game called the splash brother-in-law. the corner three. the nice move and another three. he had three threes in the first half. the warriors up 44-37. final hminute of the half. beat harris and barns on this

warmer at half moon bay with 61 there and because of this high pressure ridge overhead and light winds, the stag innocent a -- stagnant air stay with us. the south bay, east bay, better air quality. for the day today, looks like it will improve but overall the changes are way too subtle for anyone to notice or take advantage of. you can see the flag blowing a little bit out there on top of pier 15. we'll be looking at stronger winds as tuesday arrives and the changes will begin to be felt i think on tuesday in advance of a weather system that will bring rain and some breezy winds. here is live doppler 7. you'll notice the fog is inside the bay but the bigger picture shows we're dry up into canada and eventually this ridge sliding to the east but it is bringing those breezy easterly winds to the syria ierra nevada.

we're looking at the red winds up to 45 miles an hour and the humidity 18-28% here. so unfortunately, there is that to deal with but the air quality is better in the mountains and also south of us while we still suffer with the conditions of all the particles in the air. it's 29 in santa rosa. low to mid 40s in san jose and a shool start as we look at the clouds, you'll notice they are socked in. as they begin to pull away, there will be hazy sunshine going into monday, few high clouds and little change and the clouds increase and tuesday really is the day with air quality improving just a little bit and the winds will be picking up. this is the golden gate bridge. smoky hazy air throughout the day on tuesday, rain arrives on wednesday. i think esl a littl bett.we still air lookin dry into next weekend.

so from time to time, the air quality improves from around the bay to fair. you can see the orange right here but then over in oakland, it's unhealthy and we're still looking at that unhealthy air throughout the day today as the winds are very, very light and we can't get out of this pattern just yet. but as we look at the winds, into tuesday afternoon, they are beginning to build and that's because there is a front offshore and then by wednesday morning, check it out. it's rainy, it's breezy and it feels like winter, a typical november day around here getting a break before thanksgiving but then another round headed our way. we'll group them together and say wednesday through friday, a one each and every day and the storm impact scale a half to an inch, perhaps two inches of rain before it's said and done and as we go through about thursday morning, this is the first system here. this is thanksgiving snow in the mountains and by thursday afternoon, moves out of here. the next system arriving on friday. check it out from the north that
