week. we'll see how many folks are heading into school and work with thanksgiving holiday days away. we have a stack up in the cash lanes but that's it. we are in the yellow westbound 580 tracy to dublin, 34 minutes. as we've been mentioning, parts of the bay area remain at unhealthy air quality. some schools and tourist attractions are still closed. >> other businesses are starting to reopen. amy hollyfield is live for us in san francisco with an update. >> reporter: the cable cars will start running again today. you can see that is poised and ready to go here at the cable car barn. the operator told me it will take off from here at about 5:32. we'll be here to watch it as it rolls out for the first time in a few days. it's been a tough time in the san francisco bay area. for visitors and residents alike.

the air quality has just been so unhealthy. really tough on our visitors, though. a lot of the sites have been closed. alcatraz has been closed and will be closed again today. that will be the fifth day. they offered tourists who had already booked trips to alcatraz a tour of the bay. they also have a miniature model to show them what the island looks like but they tell them it's been a bit of a disappointment. >> got to be one of the premiere attractions for san francisco. this is the second time they've canceled the tour on us. we booked two days ago. they canceled, refund, bought for today and canceled again. we leave on friday. >> we are disappointed, but we are good with that because it's not the fault of the city. it's not our fault. >> reporter: tourists also don't have muir woods as an option, it's been closed and the cable

owner wants to find the l toile inside his store. surveillance cameras captured the whole thing sunday morning. you can see the man unwrap a roll of toilet paper, lights the end of it and sets a bunch of other toilet paper rolls on fire. by the time employees realized what was happening, the man was gone. the store owner says this caused $20,000 in damage. >> i open the . >> employees were able to put the fire out before it reached bottles of lighter fluid and fire logs on the bottom shelf. >> thank goodness it take up the whole store. sfo considering honoring late mayor ed lee.

commissioners will tour the airport looking for a spot to rename a spot in lee's honor. it would likely be in part of sfo before you reach security. more than a dozen democrats say they want someone other than nancy pelosi to be speaker of the house. house leaders will pick a new leader in january. 16 democrats have released a letter saying they'll vote for new leadership. the battle for the speaker's job is shaib shaping up between the party's liberal members and a group of moderate lawmakers. a spokesperson for pelosi says she remains confidence in her support among other house members. we are on our 12th consecutive day of unhealthy air. there's some yellow, moderate air creeping up from the santa cruz mountains into parts of the south bay around palo alto, redwood city and menlo park. in is going to be the trend as we head throughout the day. we wanted to see more yellow,

in. low to mid-60s, monterrey, sacramen sacramento. upper 70s in san diego and l.a. look at tahoe, 56 today. heavy snow tomorrow. and then snow showers thursday and lighter amounts of snow friday. looks like a pretty quiet albeit chilly weekend. and at the live desk this morning, coming in, we are following a deadly train de railment near barcelona, spain. this commuter train was traveling into the city with more than 130 people on board when a landslide forced it off the tracks overnight. this was at 6:15 in the morning there. at least one person is dead. more than 40 others were hurt. the landslide follows recent dour pours in spain. we'll stay on top of this developing storyle and bring you more details as soon as we get them. a santa rosa company is using using social media to give back to victims of the camp

this arch-r afternoon we'll peak in the low to mid-60s. 61 to 66 degrees. tonight we'll be not nearly as chilly as it has been. temperatures in the upper 40s to mid-50s because of the cloud cover. do you see the green? that's the rain starting to come in. more like rain in showers. still a 2. there's a slight chance of lightning and thunder. you can see the freckled nature. this isn't a solid shield. this is a shower and thunderstorm producer that starts at midnight. you can see by 4:00 in the morning, we have pockets of wet weather in the north bay as we head towards the end of the morning commute. the earlier the commute, the easier it will be. the south bay and east bay get more rain and tapers during the evening commute and we'll get a few more pockets of showers during the evening and early overnight hours. right now it's looking like it's going to be fairly quiet for thanksgiving. we'll have morning showers.

half inch around san francisco. nearly an inch in the north bay. thursday, wanot much of an accumulation. friday we see 2 inches in the north bay and three-quarters in the south bay. a lot of people waiting for that rain to come. we've been dealing with the bad air from the smoke from the fire, but a new study is saying that overall, poor air quality is shaving months off people's lives. the energy policy institute at the university of chicago found that everyday exposure to smog shortens a person's life span by two years. if smog levels in california increase, people in fresno could add 12 months to their life span. three months in sacramento and
