the air is considered unhealthy. some spots are shut down. cable cars are opennd l a th le to not seem too concerned. you can't close the windows. the air is not perfect but they have only here for a small window of time. they want to ride this cable car. they are appreciative for having them roll again today. it is the first since thursday afternoon. it pulled out at 5:30 this morning from the cable car barn. it didn't take long for tourist to hear they are rolling again and start to line up again. >> you have to do this when you come here. it's such fun. >> it was interesting and took a lot of pictures. you could feel that it's old

fashioned. but it's not my every day right. >> the cable cars are not the only tourist attraction to be shut down because of air quality. it is closed again today and th they were especially glad to have the cable cars back. >> we know it's one of the most important things to do in san francisco. >> a spokesperson says they pulled the cable cars thursday when the air quality was at a level of purple or very unhealthy. >> it is not as clean as it should have been or used to be. it has been here only three days. so it's not that much of a concern to me.

>> as for the other tourist attractions we haven't heard a decision yet on when they plan to reopen. the rain will help improve air quality. abc 7 news. >> thank you. the smoke is certainly impacting travelers this morning. you can see the poor air quality over the runways. it's caused hundreds and hundreds of delays for the past week and a half or so. matt joins us live from the airport. the timing isn't great. >> more than 40,000 more people expected through sfo today compared to a normal day. check out the smoke. poor air quality. the campfire burned 151,000 acres. it is 70% contained and 79 people have been killed. the number of people considered missing is improving although still long. fewer than 700 names on that list right now down from nearly a thousand just yesterday. one of the biggest questions is why it's fluctuating so much. several factors including the fact that some don't even know they have been reported missing and others are not able to reach their fraeiends or families sti. sheriffs office asked people to call one of these numbers if someone has been found. we also posted the numbers on our web site, abc7news.com. >> wild fire survivor vors are bracing for the rain. a flash flood watch goes into effect. it includes the fire and also

the store. you'll watch here as the man unwraps a roll of toilet paper, and lights the end of it and it sets a bunch of other toilet paper rolls on fire. by the time employees realized what was happening the man was gone and the owner says $20,000 in damage was left behind. >> i opened the camera and i saw the flame inside the store. my heart dropped. people are crazy out there. i don't know what's wrong with these people. >> employees were able to put that fire out before it reached bottles of lighter fluid. police are now investigating. after the break we'll take you to clhicago. president trump's plan to stop central american migrants just got dealt a major blow although it is temporary.

confronted by her ex-fiance that was armed with a gun. authorities say he shot and killed her and took his rampage inside the hospital where he randomly opened fire. authorities rushed to the scene 28-year-old chicago police officer was one of the first to arrive. he was killed in an exclang of gunfire with the suspect. the gun plan also dead. another officer responding to the scene was also shot by the gunman but saved after the bullet struck the officer's holster and lodged in his weapon. it is sending mercy hospital into lockdown mode. horrified doctors and nurses later escorted outside with their hands up. the officer who was killed levers behind his wife and three young children.

cannot take new punishment over washington post columnist. he said this morning the crown prince denies any planning and execution. it has been a great ally to the u.s. mr. trump added our intelligence agencies are able to but it could very well be that the crown prince had knowledge of this tragic event maybe he did and maybe he didn't. a federal judge just dealt a huge blow. they wanted to defly asylum to migrants that illegally entered the u.s. the judge ruled that policy likely violates silent eligibility. restraining order remains in effect. first daughter and adviser is facing criticism for her use of a private e-mail account.

that is similar to what her dad's political rival was accused of ding. jessica has details on that. >> we are learning she had for months been using her personal e-mail for work and those were discovered after a public records request called american oversite. she is getting blasted for doing something her father, president trump, heavily criticized hillary clinton for doing, using a private e-mail to communicate about government business. >> crooked hillary clinton bleached and deleted 33,000 e-mails. >> washington post reports last year she sent hundreds of e-mails to white house aids and discussing government business many in violation of public records rules. her legal team released a statement saying transitioning into government she some times

used her private account. many are drawing parallels to the 2016 campaign and calling it hypocritical. then candidate trump criticized his rival for using a private e-mail server during her time as secretary of state. the fbi said he should not face criminal charges. her team says she did not create a private server in her house or office. there was never classified information transmitted. it was never housed. white house economic adviser was asked about ivanka's e-mail's. >> i think the absolute world of ivanka trump. >> flu at thnew at this hour th planning to look into whether the e-mails violate federal law.

by 4:00 increasing high clouds. clouds get thicker and keep us in the low to mid-50s. by midnight light showers developing. it will be much milder tomorrow morning. no more frost. no more 30s. mid-40s to mid-50s when you head out the door tomorrow morning. forget that heavier coat. the gray you see, that is cloud cover. the spots of green, some scattered light showers. as we head through 4:00 tomorrow morning the best chance up into the north bay. look what happens during the morning commute. yellows, oranges, moderate to heavy downpours as the cold front starts to move in. that pushes the rain to other areas that haven't seen it yet. the east bay and south baby noonoo -- bay by noon. it will hang around the showers moderate to heavy at times through about 6:00 and start

tapering at 7:00. we get into the colder air. this is when the chance of thunderstorms developed during the evening and t. most of the day being dry. you can see the rain rolling in as we head i in the north bay. much heavier than for the rest of us in the south bay. here is a look at the winter storm watch. if you're thinking about traveling try to get up there or leave early tomorrow morning. the heavy wet snow so heavy it could bring power lines down. that's how heavy this nearly foot of snow will be down to 6,500 feet. if you're traveling tomorrow rain from santa barbara into the snow northward and around the country all of the rain is here on the west coast all the way up to washington. we'll have a little bit of snow over in the northeast. it will cause issues.
