the cdc is washing people not to the eat any romaine lettuce. if you have any, throw it out. it comes after dozens of people in 11 states were infected with e. coli linked to the leafy greens. we have how the washing might directly impact the bay area. amanda. >> reporter: i purchased this budge of romaine lettuce yesterday after the outbreak alert, retailers we visited remove all romaine lettuce products from their shelves. skip the salad and toss out any remaining romaine in your refrigerator. of the more than 30 people infected with the current strain of bacteria, the cdc reports ten are right here in california. >> i just feel like you know whatever we buy from our consumer it should be safe. >> reporter: however the cdc warns that is not the case. santa clara county's agricultural commissioner says lettuce is the third largest

crop in the country. romaine lettuce accounted for more than half the harvest at 13067. >> we will definitely have producers who grow romaine. i'm sure that will impact sales for a little while now. >> reporter: the commissioner says there's about $20 million of lettuce coming out of southern santa claire rare county this year. it should come out of your friblg. we should simply stay away. this means not eating or buying any heads or hearts of romaine, salad kits or clack cesar salads. consumer reports explains why washing won't work. >> washing does not remove this bacteria because it can get inside the cells and inside the layers and so washing doesn't do anything at all. >> also, if you aren't sure whether the lettuce you're eating is the romaine variety, the cdc says just don't eat it. >> it's better to be safe than sorry. don't mess around with e. coli

this is overdue. live doppler 7 right now showing you plenty of clouds. a little bit of moisture off our coast. that's just moisture in the pic. here is our first in a series of storms. this one is going to work its way towards the bay area. it has all the right dynamics, cold air here and definitely moisture coming in from the south. when you have all of the dynamics coming together, you know we're going to get a good soaking at times. temperatures in the 40s and 50s. look at our visibility. for weeks we've been talking about how visibility was so poor, it is starting to improve across most parts of the bay area. fairfield just over a mile, livermore three-mile visibility. it is still festive as we look towards the embarcadero center. first storm arrives tomorrow mornin our next storm comes in on thanksgiving and continues through friday. on our storm impact scale, the

first system is a 2, moderate strength storm on our scale which is exclusive to abc7 news. rain briefly heavy at times. thunder is possible and wind gusts strongest over the hills and along the coast. 20 to 40 miles an hour. hour by hour we'll go, 4:00 a.m. tomorrow right around the time some of you commute, there will be a few light showers in the north bay. 5:00 a.m., still light and spotty. the main event arrives around 7:30 in the morning as we see the rain starting to move on shore, 9:00 a.m., pockets of moderate rain. the santa cruz mountains, as well. 11:00 a.m., pockets of moderate to heavy rain. this trend continues 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. in the afternoon before it switches over to scattered showers or the evening commute, evening get away as we head into late ni ely morning thursday hours, you will still see scattered showers it will impact travellers. 8:00 a.m. by thanksgiving

morning, most of it is out of here. thursday afternoon to evening we get our next storm cog through. rainfall totals just over an inch in the wettest spots like santa rosa to a third inch in san jose. rainfall near the camp fire, could be approaching 4 to 6 inches which is why debris flows and flash flooding is possible. flash flood watch 12:00 p.m. wednesday till i 12:00 p.m. friday. obviously the rain will help the firings in the area. winter storm warning in the mountains up to 24 inches possible. by friday, 10:00 a.m., but you go past that and an it's going to be even more. above 6500 feet heavy wet snow. definitely hold off on travel. once that warning begins because the snow will be coming down, visibility very low. this is actually projecting even more snow. this is one of the commuter models. kirkwood 36 inches just in time for the thanksgiving travel and for skiing. tomorrow morning not as cold.
