organized by celebrity chefs and world central kitchen. 15,000 meals were made for evacuees. virginia lost everything in the fire, and is also a teacher at paradise high, along with these women. obviously, this wasn't the thanksgiving dinner they had planned, but they're here now, and they're thankful. >> i'm alive. m students all got out, they're all alive. i believe in hope. >> it's always been, you know, four, five different families getting together. >> reporter: that's what chuck's thanksgiving is usually like. today at chico state, a few thousand people weredded t a lot of them started out as strangers. but after what they've been through, they consider each other family. we talked with a lot of people here today, who tell us thate a is going to be the same thing that helps paradise rebuild. >> thank you.

new at 6:00, one man is ked and 13 displaced by a house fire this afternoon. firefighters arrived to find this single story home in flames. it took about 20 minutes to put that fire out. the cause is under investigation. today, "abc7 news" spoke exclusively with the family of a man arrested for reportedly setting one of the many suspicious fires at east bay housing construction sites. several fires started at construction sites about a month ago. flying embers also burned two buildings. while firefighters were busy with those fires, another one started near 32nd. that's the one that the man is suspected of causing. laura anthony has the story. >> hey, what's going on? >> reporter: "abc7 news" confirmed the arrest of this

man, in an arson fire in an oakland apartment building under kru construction. dustin bellinger, 25 years old. >> i know i didn't do it. >> reporter: a complaint charges him with maliciously drying or damaging the apartments by means of fire october 23rd. "abc7 news" shot video of the atf at the hollis fire that morning, including the broken window that investigators now say carried a key piece of dna evidence. that is a reddish brown smudge from the window sil. according to the complaint, that was an electronic hit with bellinger, whose dna is in the state system for prior kidnapping and robbery convictions. >> it's just shocking to all of us. >> reporter: his relatives say he was supposed to attend a thanksgiving gathering with them today. he -- i still don't -- it's hard to believe, you know, whether to

this is the perfect time of year to say thank you to a program that's helping thousands of children and families living with cancer in northern california. >> it's a place where magic happens. it provides free summer camp in the sierra foothills. this is sims camp, a nonprofit based in marin county. caer. young people are thehire ks also need healing. and sometimes parents don't understand there's even a problem, at first. >> i have five children, and my youngest was 6 months old and diagnosed with cancer. at the time, it was just this whirl wind trying to deal with all of that and trying to make things as normal as possible for my four older children. >> i was with my daughter in the

southeastern army volunteers were up before dawn preparing 4,000 meals. for some recipients, a visit from the salvation army is their only outside contact during the holiday. unkeyou can call it a any other in san jose. the city's two oldest public high schools battled it out on the gridiron before the feasting began. and chris nguyen was there for the big game.r:he nation, football hand. but in san jose, a special game.
