tonight. the rain returns tomorrow and it will stick around for days. this is a live look from our emeryville camera showing clouds starting to gather before the rain arrives. good evening, thank you for joining us. i'm dan ashley. >> and i'm alma daetz. we are in for an active week of weather, high winds, powerful surf and healthy doegs of rain. >> abc 7 meteorologist sandhya patel is here now with what we can expect and the first drop, sandhya. >> we'll see the first drops as early as tomorrow afternoon in the bay area. but for the north bay, sooner than that. live doppler 7 showing you a blanket of clouds. let me show you the wider perspective here. that storm system is coming in, but it is slower to arrive. so what's going to happen? it's a level 1 system on our storm impact scale. light system, light to moderate rain, breezy with a 10th to half an inch for most areas. expecting high surf along the coast tomorrow. hour by hour we go, by 8:00 a.m. it's in mendocino county. but that rain is going to take its time before it reaches santa rosa. right around 11:00 a.m. to noon,

heading south ward as we head towards the afternoon hours, that's not the only storm. look at the storm impact scale appearing for the next five days. one of those storms is a stronger one. i'll be back with a closer look at those storms coming right up. dan and alma? >> thank you, sandhya. and the approaching storms have the chp urging all drivers to slow down. abc 7 reporter kate larson is live in mill valley where drivers had a really hard time in the rain last week. kate. >> reporter:al ma, that's rig . when the first rain of the season fell, they responded to more than three times as many crashes here in marin as the same time period last week. and with more rain on the way, they are concerned about what the commute has in store for us this week. the roads are dry now, but with a series of storms on the way, that will change by morning. >> with the increased rain, there's no doubt we'll have an increase potential for vehicle

accidents. >> reporter: last thursday through saturday, when it was either wet or rainy, the chp says they investigated 29 collisions in marin compared to just nine in the same three-day period last year. battalion chief brett mctee with the marin county fire department says people need to make a conscious effort to adjust their driving in the rain. >> the storm will pack in a little bit more of a punch than the last storm so if people don't give themselves room, and they don't give the time to get where they're going and they're not paying attention and being defensive on the roads, then we still could have a lot of accidents. >> reporte >> it's not that i worry about how i drive, i worry about how other people drive. >> reporter: rene works in mill valley. the store has piles of sand bags in case of flooding. she said people have been buying up their tarps, rain jackets and boots. she wishes people would also prepare for rainy roads. >> we were in the slow lane going, like, you know, 45, 50. people still going like 75, 80

like they didn't care. so my main concern is that we don't get into a car accident. >> reporter: so besides taking your time on the roads tomorrow, another thing you should take your time to do is check your car. i spoke to a mechanic. he says make sure your tire treads are good, and then also replace your windshield wipers, another simple thing you can do which works really well is apply rain x which is a repellent on your windshield. live in mill valley, kate larson, nbc7 news. >> get the forecast on your phone by tapping the weather button. you can see live doppler 7 and live web kamms from across the bay area. >> in the east bay tonight police are investigating a serious and severe case of vandalism. it covered much of downtown antioch with anti-semitic graffiti and even worse, abc 7 news reporter cornell bernard is live in antioch with the story. cornell? >> reporter: dan, many folks got a shock this morning finding block after block of hate filled graffiti. this mural was targeted and so

were local churches. husband and wife pastors burt and kim moreno spent monday night painting over objesceniti left spray painted on their church. >> it broke our heart. it was unfortunate and very disappointing. >> reporter: down the street pastor eugene jackson was surprise today see swastikas painted on the side of his church which opened last week. >> to see these symbols and signs of hatred and racism on our building was very disheartening and disappointing. >> reporter: churches weren't the only places tar getted. 20 buildings in antioch were tagged including city hall where a vandal was caught on security camera spray painting a van in te parking lot. antioch police releasing these surveillance pictures of a suspect captured in the downtown area late sunday and early monday. this mural on 4th street was being cleaned and repaired. it, too, was littered with swastikas and vul garretts.

>> nothing like this ever happens in this community so to see swastikas and things that of nature painted on murals, it's disheartening and makes me feel vulnerable. >> reporter: police have no motive for the crime. >> you just feel really sad that somebody has that much hatred in their heart. >> reporter: the more even hes believe spray painted words and symbols do not reflect their community. >> racism doesn't win. evil doesn't win, has never won. so we just paint over it and we move on. >> reporter: so far no arrests, and for now police are not calling this a hate crime. their investigation continues. we're live in antioch tonight, cornell bernard, abc 7 news. >> cornell, thank you. eight area civil rights leaders called for a boycott of the san francisco giants after it was revealed one of the principal donors donated to the mississippi candidate accused of being a racist. san francisco naac president aim os brown is criticizing donations made by charles johnson and his wife to the campaign of cindy hyde-smith. she's running for a senate seat

and the vote is tomorrow. she's been criticized for her public hanging comments in her native mississippi. hyde-smith has apologized. >> mr. charles johnson. has shown that his heart is on the side of oppression -- >> this is charlie johnson's words. joe, if she is a racist, i will not support her. >> giants president larry baer r said they cannot control who their owners support politically just as we cannot and should not control any of our employee's support politically. >> the fire is contained, but the death toll continues to climb in the ftermath of the camp fire in butte county. kye map 7 shows you streets of just obliterated homes ruined by the flames. the fire is now blamed for 88 deaths. that's the new number tonight. 203 people are cmiss interior secretary ryan zink today toured damaged in paradise

and said costs associated with the fire will likely be in the billions. abc 7 news was also in paradise where some fire victims have more immediate concerns, such as where they will live now. >> we literally have spent every time we have just trying to make it. >> we've had no assistance at all from fema. >> fema has about 80 travel trailers for those left homeless, but the agency says it's still working on logistics. flames destroyed more than 13,000 homes. >> new at 11:00, a retired firefighter and cardiac nurse are credited with helping save the life of a woman on a hawaii bound flight that diverted to san francisco this afternoon. >> we do have medical personnel aboard assisting her. apparently she is conscious at this time. >> alaska airlines flight 843 was flying from seattle takona when a woman in her 90s went into cardiac arrest. the retired firefighter and

nurse performed cpr, used an on board defibrillator to assist the victim. they landed in san francisco. the victim was taken to an heir hospital where she is recovering. the alaska flight took off again to the big island a few hours later. >> let's take you to the north bay now where people say a 10-year-old boy and his mother are heroes for saving six elderly people from a fire. >> abc 7 news reporter wayne freedman met them in healdsburg today. >> i was terrified. >> reporter: carlos spent the day with his mother and sister picking through the ruins of this house. magnolia manner is a family business. they spend a lot of time here. >> the flames were probably all the way up to the ceiling. >> reporter: the fire broke out in the kitchen last night at dinner time. carlos first spotted the smoking broiler then told his mother. >> i came in and opened the oven and there was just smoke. >> she opened the bottom of it and flames just started shooting out. >> reporter: what were you thinking? >> i was thinking, like, i got

to get out. >> reporter: as the fire roared, they knew it would spread fast. this is a senior center with six residents. look at the damage in here. imagine what they faced. in the midst of it all, carlos went outside with only socks on. he called 911 and gave healdsburg fire the address. that promptness made all the difference. >> when our engine got here, there was fire coming out of the front door and the kitchen. >> reporter: by then liz had evacuated all six of the elderly residents. now people are calling both her and carlos heroes. >> we're not heroes. i take care of them. it's my job to take care of them. i love my patients and i wouldn't be in this profession if i didn't care about them. >> reporter: they're saying you're a hero. >> yeah. >> reporter: do you feel like a hero? >> not really. >> reporter: until we asked, carlos never even mentioned his prized ps 4 which melted in the flames.

dashcam video surfaced showing the crash warriors star steph curry was in on friday. tmz obtained the video. you can see the crash on the left of your screen. it clipped the front of curry's car. both cars hit the center divider. officials say ten minutes later

another car lost control and slammed into curry's car. this is exclusive abc7 news video showing the aftermath. there were no major injuries, thankfully. officials say everyone involved was wearing their seat belt. >> well, in the south bay, a holiday hero's quick action may have saved a woman's life. the woman was walking her dogs in san jose when she suffered a seizure. this was on thanksgiving morning. she says a good samaritan found her and called 911 immediately. abc7 news reporter amanda del castillo has the story. >> reporter: most times this would be a normal sight. walking her two dogs near rawlings and oyster bay, a neighbor's camera captured the moment she suddenly collapses. she was suffering her first seizure. >> i remember crossing the street and after that i remember absolutely nothing. >> reporter: the dramatic surveillance video shows a man and his dog walking over to her only seconds later. >> i found out the good samaritan came and pulled my phone out of my pocket, called

911 for me. must have stayed with me until the fire department came. they called my fiance and the rest is history. >> reporter: she only remembers being put onto a stretcher and into an ambulance. now she is searching for the man who made the call to 911 saving her any lasting damage. she wants to it thank him in person. >> the quick wittedness and reaction i believe saved my life. >> reporter: she recalls some fatigue, and won't be able to drive the next few months. she said the scare on thanksgiving morning gave her even more reason to be thankful. >> we connected with another neighbor who says that he spoke with the holiday hero and the holiday hero does not want to be identified. still she says thank you. in san jose, i'm amanda del castillo, abc7 news. >> wonderful. might see him around the neighborhood. >> that's true. on to the weather forecast, a series of rain storms coming this way. >> yeah, meteorologist sandhya patel has the scoop for us. sandhya. >> yeah, we have coming way thi

and alma. the first is getting her first thing tomorrow. let's show you live doppler 7 right now. we have a lot of cloud cover. that rain is going to be slow to arrive tomorrow, but it is certainly kicking up the surf. high surf advisory 10:00 a.m. tomorrow to 4:00 a.m. friday. if you're going to be anywhere near the coast, watch out. breakers will be 18 to 24 feet or even higher than that. rip currents are certainly possible. it's a westerly swell that is building ahead of the storm. storms, i should say. currently temperatures are in the 40s and thes. a live look from our emeryville camera. as we look across the bay, visibility is fine here, but we do have some fog in santa rosa. watch out. there will be dense patches of fog in the morning. rain arrives tomorrow afternoon, more wet weather on the way friday night into saturday. tomorrow's storm is a level 1, light on our storm impact scale. expect light to moderate rain, breezy conditions at times. about a 10th to half an inch for most of you, and high surf along the coast line. so hour by hour we go, 7:00 a.m. tomorrow, rain is still well

north of the bay area. by the time we head into 9:30, we're seeing some pockets of downpours around mendocino county. it's going to take its sweet time sliding south. into santa rosa by 11:00 a.m. you have to wait until 12:30 before all of the north bay sees wet weather. beyond that into 3:00 p.m. before the east bay and parts of the south bay start to see some showers, this system is going to start to dissipate. so it's going to be very scattered in nature for the afternoon and evening, and lighter in terms of the rainfall. it winds down tomorrow night with just a few showers remaining around 8:00 p.m. by 11:00 p.m. it is done. in terms of rainfall totals, most of you will see between a 10th to half an inch. there could be a few location that's could pickup a little more than that. first thing in the morning, though, watch out for the fog in the north bay valleys. temperatures low 40s to the low 50s. tomorrow afternoon don't leave home without the umbrella because if you don't need it in the morning you will need in in the afternoon. temperatures will be lower than today. mid 50s to 60s. storm impact scale comes in, for

late wednesday night into thursday morning, this time it's a level 2. moderate to heavy rain at times, strong winds, dangerous surf and isolated thunder is possible. this one is bringing some concern for mid week. hydro planing and flooding on roadways. very high likelihood as we see heavy rain at times. trees toppling high likelihood with wind gusts up to 50 in the hills. power lines down, possibility. it's a moderate possibility and small stream flooding is going to be pretty low. midnight thursday you start to see intense rainfall rates beginning to approach. heavy at times, dark rains, yellows there heading into thursday morning and then thursday afternoon, evening, this turns over to scattered showers. but that's the storm that we're watching because that's the one that is going to soak us. these are the rainfall totals for that thursday's storm. many of you picking up over an inch of rain. of course, some places in the rain shadow not as much. this will turn to snow in the mountains. 7,000 feet tomorrow in tahoe, but above 4,000 feet wednesday night into friday morning up to
