we're just hours away from the first in a series of storms that will bring not only rain but extremely high surf to the surf area. >> you need your surfboard today or an umbrella. >> and tuesday, november 27th. we're talking about this for days now. we said get that sunshine while you had it because it's over. >> no more energizing from the sun. we have to go with rain and wind. light month moderate rain today. half an inch in the north bay. will taper to a tenth of an inch in the south bay. the high surf is moving in already. it will get more dangerous at 10:00. live doppler 7, light rain, just the leading edge moving into ukiah. it's slowed. it will move into the rest of our neighborhoods around noon. not quite in the south bay. maybe a couple hours after that. by 4:00 it's already in the south bay but starting to taper. waking up milder, mid- 40s to

low 50s. the rain-cooled air will drop us into the upper 50s by 4:00. looks like a dangeroushe roads. here's alexis. >> i want to start you off with the bay bridge toll plaza. if you look in the parking lot, we had a four-vehicle crash. right at the 80 split as you come in from emeryville. those are a couple vehicles that were involved. that's our biggest backup. we also have an issue in the east bay. this is in the san pablo area. san pablo avenue is fully closed between road 20 we're hearing it's a fatality. let's get out to abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield who's arrived at the scene. >> reporter: hi, alexis. let me show you the scene, this car flipped over where this

person was killed. investigators tell me they think they'll be here for a few hours. they did say this is a fatality. they said do not plan on using san pablo avenue during your morning routine. they'll be investigating for a while. we know chp and san pablo police were in a pursuit. they're still working on their investigation. this is happening here in this area. reporting live from san pablo, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. three american soldiers are dead, three others are hurt after a roadside bombing in afghanistan. an ied detonated in the ghazni province. an american contractor was also injured in the blast. we do not know the names of those victims. so far there has been no immediate claim of

responsibility. we'll stay on top of this and bring you more information as it comes in. breweries will start brewing beer to benefit survivors of the camp fire. sierra brewing company started this. it ended up temporarily closing when the camp fire first broke out. sierra nevada will provide the recipe for what they're calling the resilience ipa. one of the participating breweries is in san francisco. it's holding a kickoff event tonight. a portion of all food and drink sales will go to a wildfire relief fund. just announced, 1015 folsom will be hosting a concert benefiting camp fire relief efforts. rapper too short will headline the event on december 21st. he started his career in oakland. proceeds will go to north valley foundation camp fire relief fund. you can also donate the old-fashioned way on this giving tuesday. we have ideas for you on how to

help out any fire victims. you can find a link to more information on abc7news.com. bay area civil rights leaders are calling for a boycott of the san francisco giants. that's because one of the principal owners of the team donated to a mississippi senate candidate accused of being a racist. san francisco naacp president dr. amos brown is criticizing donations made by charles johnson and his wife to the campaign of cindy hyde-smith. hyde-smith is running for a senate seat against an african-american candidate. and the vote is happening today. earlier this month she said she would sit in the front row if she were invited to a public hanging. she has since apologized. >> mr. charles johnson has shown that his heart is on the side of oppression. >> this is charlie johnson's words. joe, if she is a racist, i will not support her. >> the giants' president said

neither i nor anyone else in the giants can control who any of our owners support politically just as we cannot and should not control who any of our employees support politically. president trmp spent last night in mississippi stumping for hyde-smith. she would be the first woman elected to congress from mississippi. her opponent, mike espy, would be the state's first african-american candidate. we expect today's storm to be one on the impact scale. chp reminding drivers to be extra careful on the wet roads because the first rain of the season fell over the thanksgiving holiday. the chp says officers responded to 29 crashes in marin. that's more than triple the same number of crashes last year. ahead of the storm many drivers are stopping at goodman building supply in mill valley to buy tarp and rain simprakts boots. we spoke with an employee who wants people to slow down.

camera just turned 6:10. we still have upper 40s. pleasanton at 45. 49 in antioch and brentwood. 49, 48, antioch. the rest of us in the 50s. you can see temperatures in the upper 50s as that warmer and more humid air is rolling out of our system. it will be fairly dry through 10:00 in the east bay. at 10:00 steady rain from noon through 2:00. lighter rain at 4:00 and scattered showers as we drop into the upper 50s. fog rolls in at 10:00 and becomes steady at 4:00. our last stop peninsula, expect the rain to roll in at 10:00 but it will be scattered, heavier this afternoon. we definitely have a serious situation. this is a fatality investigation

in san pablo. san pablo avenue is fully closed between road 20 and el portal drive. to me it does not look like they've even started to do the clean-up. you can see that vehicle on its roof. it's going to be a while. amy hollyfield is live at the scene. checking in with her as soon as we get an estimate on when that will reopen. it's likely to be several hours. wanted to check in on residual delays. looking much better back in the green on 580. just a little yellow on westbound 24 if you're coming in from highway 13 stretch. new at 6:00, apple has announced plans to help female entrepreneurs more about developing apps. according to tech crunch, the free two-week camp starts in january. the company must female founded, afemale co-founded, or female led and one woman on the

as i said, it's been seven long hours since the pistol went off and two leaders died and that chaos has captured the city again. >> today marks 40 years since a former board of supervisors former board of supervisors member assassinated months c mont moscone and supervisor harvey milk. the event will highlight the impact mayor moscone and supervisor milk had on the city of san francisco. police are investigating vandalism in the east bay. 20 buildings in downtown antioch look like this. that includes city hall, some churches covered with anti-semitic graffiti.

a vandal was spotted on surveillance camera. police released these surveillance images. >> you see swastikas and painted on murals. it's disheartening. >> no evil has won, so we'll just paint over it and we move on. >> police have not found a motive for the tagging. at this point they are not calling it a hate crime but they haven't ruled out that possibility. san francisco is launching a new campaign to educate youth about cannabis use. the campaign called truth or nah is aimed toward middle and high school students. the city's health department wants them to know that smoking we'd can damage lungs while cigarettes do and edibles can contain more thc. informational posters will appear on muni buses and other locations in the city. a recent survey found about one-fifth of high school seniors in san francisco have used cannabis within the past month. new this morning, holy cow,

look at that. a giant steer named nickers is making headlines around the world all because of its size. nickers stands over 6 feet tall and weighs more than a car. 1.4 tons, to be exact. the 7-year-old lives in western australia and is almost twice the size of the rest of the herd. the owner tells media the steer is too big to go through a processing facility so it will live happily ever after at the farm. her size has saved a life. >> nickers is almost the same height as michael jordan, who is 6'6". >> isn't that incredible? it's jaw-dropping. >> it really is. guinness book of world records, i would think. >> super lucky. >> that, too. let's talk about who's lucky and who's not when it comes to the rain and when it gets to your neighborhood. all is quiet.

a colorful sunrise developing already. we have fog in the inland valleys and across parts of san francisco. that will turn to light to moderate rain today. and then that will turn to scattered light showers tonight. and another chance of rain not only today but all the way through saturday. just about every day has a chance of getting wet. this afternoon it will be warmest in the south bay. last to receive the rain-cooled air. that's why you're in the mid-60s. most are in the low to mid-60s. you head up to the north bay, the rain-cooled air will keep you around 56 to 59 degrees. tonight you clear out in the north bay. that's why 40s are up there. when it gets here, 7:00, everybody is dry. 9:00, pretty much everybody is dry except santa rosa northward. by noon it becomes light to moderate. yellows and oranges in there and greens. yellows and oranges moderate and starts moving into the bay.

by 4:00, everybody is wet during the evening commute. notice the yellows go away and the shield breaks up by 7:00. that's when we turn over to scattered showers. if you're commuting today, if you're commuting today, everybody's dry up through 9:00. my accuweather seven-day forecast, today's storm, light. tomorrow night into thursday morning, that's when the stronger storms, thunderstorms, gusty breezes roll in. that's a two. friday night into saturday is a one, light on the storm impact scale. >> good morning. i want to start you off at the bay bridge toll plaza where the metering lights are on. if you look in the middle right side of the screen, we do have a collision between a honda civ s. not sure about injuries. chp is on the way to the scene. definitely have a lane blocked. i know no one is moving quickly at this point of the day. i'll be able to point that out a

little better on the next traffic report. also a new problem near sfo westbound 380, we had reports of a ladder in the roadway. unfortunately, someone hit that and crashed. we have one lane blocked there. and a quick check of drive times. southbound 101, santa rosa to petaluma, 16 minutes. and northbound 101, 280 to 680, no delays, in the green. want to take a look at what's going on. start in the north bay because that's where the rain is moving. can you see a lot of fog out there and in the east bay also. that will go away starting at 9:00, 10:00 when the rain arrives. it will get heavier as we arrive to lunch. new developments in that controversial claim that the world's first genetically edited humans were made in china. rice university says it launched an investigation into one of it's biochemical genetic researchers after reports surfaced of his involvement. gene editing is banned in the

bridge toll plaza where i'm not seeing chp on the scene. we have a crash. you can see someone walking around the middle of the toll plaza. chp is trying to get there but we have one lane blocked, possibly two as you approach those toll booths. our other big issue is in the east bay where san pablo avenue is fully closed between road 20 and el portal drive. that is due to a deadly collision at the end of a police pursuit overnight. let's get to amy hollyfield live at the scene. what can you tell us? >> reporter: it looks like they reached a sensitive part of their investigation. this is a fatal accident. they had a tarp over the overturned tarp and now they blocked our view of the car out of respect for everyone involved. we see a cluster of officers here who will be investigating this case standing here on the roadworking on the situation. this is on san pablo avenue.

this was just before midnight. the sheriff's office was pursuing a car. they haven't told us why they were pursuing that car just that they were after it. ju there was just one vehicle involved in the crash. the chp was called in to help with the pursuit but it was the sheriff's office that is going to be investigating this accident. they think this section of san pablo avenue will be closed for several hours. they didn't know how long but i said should people just count on not using this road? they said probably not. this is by el portal and road 20. there's a walgreens here. and this is going to be closed for a while while they work on this investigation. amy hollyfield, abc7 news. we have been updating you on the situation in san pablo with

limited number of women and children in the caravan are being used by the organizers as human shields. on a related noted, a caravan of bay area activists are headed to the relief centers in texas with supplies. those supplies will be given to migrants asking for asylum in the u.s. the supplies were collected by bay area border relief. new developments in the case of an oakland couple deported to mexico last year. the wife, maria mendoza sanchez, has a chance to return to the u.s. and reunite with her children. buzzfeed reports she'll go to the u.s. embassy in mexico city monday. her application for a six-year work permit under h1b was approved over the summer. still she could face years' long prohibitions on returning to the u.s. because she was deported. but there's a waiver for immigrants applying for nonpermanent visas. she will have to persuade u.s. embassy officials she deserves such a waiver.

she was a cancer nurse at highland hospital in oakland. now we have an update on the camp fire in butte county. 88 deaths are now confirmed. >> sky map 7 shows us streets that were obliterated by the flames. 203 people are still considered missing this morning. interior secretary ryan zeinke toured and says costs associated with the fire will likely be in the billions. survivors are still not sure where they'll live. >> we literally have spent every dime we have just trying to make it. >> we have had no assistance at all from fema. >> the fire destroyed 13,000 homes. right now fema is working on logistics to get some survivors into these 80 travel trailers. we have a storm on our way. we have a lot of rain in our forecast for the week. in fact, though, that storm not just bringing the rain, it is also bringing a high surf adv e advisory to the entire bay area

coastline. >> just pause and enjoy this beautiful sunrise. good. matt keller is in pacifica and those waves appear to be getting larger this morning. >> reporter: i was going to walk out over the water. now i'm on pacifica pier. maybe you can see me now. >> there he is. >> reporter: can you see me? >> yeah. >> reporter: i'll shine my phone light like i'm at a rock concert. wave my arms around like i just don't care. i do care about these big waves. i've been skraming them on the bottom of piers. we've been seeing waves 8 to 10 feet. when the big sets come in they're 8 to 10 feet. in pacifica they'll only get bigger. the high surf advisory goes into effect at 10:00 a.m. and goes through friday morning. you can see waves 18 to 24 feet

erosion and rip currents. stay out of the water and just listen to the thunderous crashing of them from a safe ot san francisco, alameda. the rest in the upper 40s to low 50s until you get to livermore and napa at 46 degrees. your commute is dry as we look at san mateo but it will become wet for the afternoon and evening. mass transit, grab your umbrella and the ferry ride, you'll want to shelter inside and stay dry. here's a time frame in the south bay. we'll be dry up to noon. after noon the scattered rain develops by noon. we'll fall back into the 50s once the rain begins. in san francisco, just pretty cloudy. a little misty through 10:00. then rain from noon all the way through 3:00. scattered rain from 4:00 to 8:00 with temperatures hovering

around 60 degrees. this is just one of three storms coming our way. alexis.lk about that first. it's been pretty busy this morning. >> it has and it's not even rainy yet. you're up for what is likely a busy week on the roads. i want to take you back to the bay bridge toll plaza where it looks like one emergency vehicle on the scene. we have a collision between a semi and a honda. it's hard to see with all this traffic. one person out of their vehicle walking around. there's the semi, there's the honda and i believe a flatbed tow truck. hearing chp is stuck in the backup. they're trying to get to this as well. we definitely have a backup. longer than average as you approach the metering lights. those have been on since 5:26 this morning. pretty typical for that time, for those metering lights but longer than average drive. we also have a problem around sfo, 380 around the 101 split, a vehicle lost control and hit the

to eat romain lettuce again but you want to check the label first. contaminated romain that sickened 43 people in 12 states is now off the market. inspectors narrowed the source to lettuce grown in central and northern california. effective immediately, lettuce growers will label where the lettuce was grown and where it was harvested. officials advise, if your romain lettuce does not have a label, do not eat it. a south bay woman is thanking a stranger for helping save her life and the whole thing was caught on surveillance camera. the woman was walking her dogs new rawlings and oyster bay when she suffered a seizure. seconds after it happened, video shows a man and his dog walking over to help. >> i found out a good samaritan came and pulled my phone out of my pocket, called 911 for me. must have stayed with me until the fire department came. they called my fiancee and the rest is history.

budget travel app hopper says today is the best day to save on airline tickets. this year's cyber monday was the single biggest online shopping day in history. shoppers spent $7.9 billion. that is a 19% increase from last year. we want to take a look at the general motors stock this morning after that announcement. the automaker is laying off 15,000 workers in north america and possibly closing several factories. the stock was up overnight in premarket trading. you can see it's down but only slightly. gm says it's making changes to cut costs and focus more on autonomous and electric vehicles. along with the layoffs, gm will also stop production onbe of cars including the chevy impala, volt and the cruise. a live look at the new york stock exchange. we are down this morning about 171 points. the markets rebounded yesterday but overnight, futures were down
