down trees and mudslides here on the roads. matt keller, abc 7 news. >> thank you, matt. caltrans worked quickly to fill a sizable pothole on highway 101, south san francisco. it started crumbling around 1:00 yesterday afternoon. it took crews almost six hours to repair the damage. the patch took this morning than usual to dry. >> caltrans plans to close part of highway 1 because of today's storm. it involves the 12-mile stretch between mud creek and paul slide. it say precaution against a possible rockslide like the one that hit the area in may of last year. highway 1 justify reopened in july after $54 million in rpairs. on the roads. is it going to rain all day or

their arrest. house democrats will hold their leadership elections after winning control of the chamber for the 116th congress in the midst term elections. nancy pelosi expected to receive enough support from her caucus to be her party's nominee for house speaker. but the sides of her opposition believe there should be new leadership will be on display n closed-door session. pelosi will need as many as 218 democratic votes on the house floor when all 435 house members vote is. so far 16 democrats have said they are not going to vote for her. a controversial republican has won in mississippi. cindy hyde-smith beat mike espy, 53% to 46%. she will keep the seat she was appointed to earlier this year. her campaign was marked by several controversies, including a joke about public hangings.

-owner crles johnson to ask her to return a campaign donation. johnson and his wife gave $2,700 each to hyde-smith. news of the johnsons' donations drew for a boycott against the leaders. the campaign said they should have asked for their money back sooner. a man who traveled to chico in a grand gesture of kindness. >> touched by the loss in butte county, he donated $1.1 million in all and hand delivered checks. laura anthony was there. >> thank you so much. >> reporter: it's perhaps a small act of kindness, given the larger disaster. but these kids from paradise high and these families getting even $1,000 from a man they don't know. a businessman named bob wilson. it's a huge gift. >> this means so much.

8:00. the showers come back. for the east bay valleys, up until 10:00 we have light showers. from about 12:00 through 8:00, pretty quiet weather there. our last were stop will be san francisco. a chance of light rain and drizzle through 8:00, 9:00. a little bit of a break through the rest of the day until some showers develop at 8:00. and they are going to be strong. in fact, thunderstorms are in the forecast tonight. we'll talk about 2, moderate storm, coming up next. alexis, we already have accidents out there? >> three rollovers and a spinout. that tells me one thing, people are driving way too fast for the roads. you probably don't want to hear it, but it is true. we have a solo vehicle spinout crash 101 before spencer avenue. it sounds like the two right lanes are blocked. it is causing a delay in the area. a mile approaching the scene.

all right. it is active across the state today. the heaviest rain around monterey, down towards big sur. they are going to close one. or if they haven't already, they are going to. because of the heavy rain that will be there all day today. it moves into the sierra. right now we have a winter storm warning until 4:00 friday morning. several feet of snow. it will be blowing sideways and be heavy. as far as tahoe goes, here's a look. light to moderate today. heavy snow tomorrow. snow showers friday, sunday, tuesday. another light to moderate storm sunday. a whole lot of snow going on. mike, thank you. president trump is threatening

one more storm saturday. lake port, 56. ukiah, 58. still pretty mild this afternoon. mild night, low to mid-40s. a few 40s in the north bay. you can see the storm is pushing to the south. another one passing to the north. but this one, look at that shade. very mature storm will bring us heavier rain. some possible damaging winds and surf that continues to be damaging. and thunderstorms. yeah, it's g tbettyk 7:00 this showers, light to moderate, yellow to green going on.e go a. that's look at the red. we will have brief heavy downpours, ponding on the roadways, flooding in some parking lots.

the storm is centered in the south bay and monterey bay. that's where we will have the best chance of floods. hydroplaning will be a concern across all of our neighborhoods. our next storm coming up in less than 7 minutes. here's reggie. thanks, mike. the bakery planning to take over a building in the mission district is chasing the threat of a boycott. will la victoria bakery, 24 street home, until this past october. family infighting led to the eviction of a 70-year-old business. cinderella russian bakery and cafe will open at the same site. they operate a store in the they operate a store in the richmond district. hundreds of stuffed bears will soon be in the hands youngsters thanks to a labor of love.

the bears will be donated to make-a-wish foundation as part of giving tuesday. salesforce says workers are encouraged to give back to the community. >> salesforce provides seven days of time paid for all employees. we all take advantage of that. it is part of what makes salesforce unique. giving back is important. >> they were hard at work in san francisco and others in new york. they finished about 1,000 bears. the same storm bringing 35 to 50-foot waves maui is bringing us a foot and a half to two foot waves from now until 4:00 friday morning. we also have a high wind watch with with the next system. we could have gusts up to 60 miles per hour in the areas you see in orange, which is along the coast. it is the peninsula and east bay, down at the lower levels

where we are going to have that. up at the higher levels in the north bay. more of us than normal under the high wind watch. 7:00 friday evening, if you're heading out, looks pretty quiet. look for light rain to develop in the north bay and along the coast until midnight. rain comes in, light to moderate, during the overnight hours. south bay, in the morning hours. by afternoon, it's all gone for now because there is more rain next week. alexis. thank you, mike. yeah, the rain not much for most of us in the bay area. it is causing issues on the roads. three rollover crashes and a spinout. southbound 280 ramp to westborough is one of the rollover collisions. just one vehicle involved. only part of the off-ramp is blocked. a vehicle is on its roof. crews are still at the scene trying to get that one cleared. not looking too soggy here. somebody tried to take the carpool lanes before they are open. they are throwing it in reverse.
