>> live doppler 7 showing lingering showers in the bay area right now after a rainy night and an even bigger storm starting tonight. the next storm, the second of three, will range a two on our storm impact scale. this is a live look at the golden gate bridge. by the way, the timing of the storm is sure to wreak havoc on your morning commute. i'm kristen zse. thanks for joining us. the storm will have a stronger possibility for flooding, high surf and mud slides. >> hi, chris continue, hi, everybody. getting leftovers from this morning's rain. you can see it on live doppler 7 over my right shoulder. scattered rain on either side of the santa clara valley. the bigger part of the storm is

come in tonight and tomorrow, and it's bringing with it a chance of thunderstorms. everywhere you see colored in there, it lingers into tomorrow outside of mendecino and lake county, so a rare treat coming our way, but it does have its side effects. a chance of thunderstorms will bring heavy rain and damaging wins and dangerous surf, and i'll go over all of those in the big weather coming up. t show you the time frame. it's going to be pretty quiet for the rest of the afternoon. from 4:00 to 7:00. look at the next surge of light to moderate showers coming in, and after 7:00 look at the reds pop up. those are the thunderstorms. our first wave moves through from 7:00 to 2:00 and then the next wave it's 7:00 tomorrow morning all the way through about 2:00 in the afternoon. so a longer chance. so my concerns with this one, as high as it can get for hydroplaning, flooding on roads, trees toppling high and power lines down moderate. we'll talk about the watches and warnings that are out there coming up. kristen? >> thanks so much. a high surf advisory be dangerous, even though surfers are loving it.

where you live. watch live cameras and get an hour-by-hour forecast. >> abc 7 news is committed to building a better bay area, and as part of the effort, this morning we're focusing on big news thatkland. in the past hour the a's made it official. they want to move to howard terminal. amy hollyfield joins us live with details. aim? >> hi, kristen. four more seasons in the old coliseum. that's it. they are saying they are planning to throw out the first pitch in a new waterfront stadium in 2023. take a look at the panel of people who just made the announcement. they represent different interests for the city of oakland, and they have been negotiating for a while, and as maybe libby schaaf pointed out, this is the first time you've seen them all together. they were very proud to have reached this moment. now the new stadium will be privately funded and located at the howard street terminal in oakland. officials today were like the on some key details saying they are

still negotiating a path to this plan. as reporters try to understand what that means, the mayor took over and explained. >> they are in an agreement, so it's like we're dating exclusively. >> that's right. >> we're not looking anywhere else. we're -- but we're in a courtship right now, and so that's the period under which we actually developed the details of a potential actual development plan. >> can i see. >> so you'll have many more opportunities for us to have these conversations together again. this is a really, really gorgeous starting line. >> reporter: here is a look at the design. a's president says it is nothing you have ever seen before. it will seat 34,000. it will come with a roof deck to take in the views. they could not say how much it will cost but expect to break ground in 2020. as for the old location, they have plans for that site, too. officials say it will become a housing and tech hub. they will keep oracle arena and

turn the coliseum into a low-rise sports facility. the a's have looked at fremont, san jose. this has been a long time coming, but today the a's were praised for becoming the official team of oakland just as the warriors and raiders plan to leave. reporting live in oakland, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> amy, thank you. now this is what the a ease coliseum site looks like right now. as amy mentioned, a dramatic transformation will take operation if redevelopment plans go as proposed. the parking lot surrounding the coliseum and oracle arena will be replaced with lush grassy knolls. the large park will include the able baseball diamond, housing, retail space and restaurant. what do you think about this proposed ballpark and coliseum transformation and how both projects could revitalize

oakland. the washington redskins are est o domestic violence charges and two days after the niners released him. it was the second time this year forth her been arrested for an incident involving the same woman. prosecutors dropped the charges the last time when the woman recanted her story. washington released this statement. quote, the redskins fully understand the severity of the recent allegations made against reuben. if true, you can be sure the allegations are nothing our organization would ever condone. new at 11:00, a grim discovery in petaluma. a woman's body was found in a donation box. the disturbing find was made this morning in the parking lot outside the deli on old redwood highway. this is the scene around 7:00. according to "the press democrat," petaluma police believe the woman was reaching down inside the box when she got crushed. she was found with her legs dangling out of the donation

box. not known how long she was there. alorts believe her death was an accident. patients of a teen who drowned at san ramon valley high school are now taking legal action. officials say back in may benjamin curry and his pe classmates were told to tread water for several minutes. his parents' attorney says surveillance video shows curry struggling to stay afloat and his teacher aaron becker distracted by his phone. becker did not take the roll after the class. >> we accepted the public apology six months after the inderni incident, but the questions we have still remain. it's unheard of that someone 15 years old would drown in a swim class, and they want answers. >> curry's parents filed the lawsuit against the school district and teacher. in an e-mail to abc 7 news, the district said it can't comment on pending litigation but did confirm that becker is still

teaching at the school. >>haening rightno house democrats are holding the leadership elections after winning control of the chamber for the 116th congress in the mid-term elections. house minority leader nancy pelosi is expected to receive enough support from her caucus to be her party's nominee for house speaker. pelosi has faced opposition from those who believe there should be new leadership. on january 3rd, pelosi will need as many as 218 votes on the house floor when all 435 house members vote. so far 16 democrats have said they will not vote for her. meantime, east bay congresswoman barbara lee failed in her bid to democratic caucus chair, the party's fourth highest post in the house. the 72-year-old lee was vying to become the first black woman ever elected to a house leadership position and the first woman to lead the house democratic caucus. however, her colleagues chose new york congressman hakeem jeffries. the 48-year-old now becomes the

a rainbow watch. if you take a pick tower and find one, hashtag is at abc 7. we would love to see it. at noon, right around 60 degrees. 4:00, still 60 degrees with scattered showers and then it starts to get heavier and more widespread and steadier from 8:00 until midnight when we drop into the mid-50s. in fact, we'll only drop into the low to mid-50s tonight. mid to tupper 40s so another mild morning. a look at the next system, very mature. comma-shaped storm coming our way, and here's how the rain goes. by 7:00, a lot of us driving again on slick streets like we were this morning, but look at the first wave of thunderstorms trying it roll through the south bay and diablo range. that's more than an inch of rain. look how it spreads everywhere by tomorrow's morning commute. half an inch and the blue up to an inch. more than an inch in the green, and then as we head into the afternoon and evening hours, more us get an inch of rain, even down into the south bay and possibly 2 inches up in the

north bay. she is storms are bringing in westerly swells and breakers around 18 to 24 feet. rip currents will continue until 4:00 friday morning. we've got a flash flood watch for the burn scars and the camp fire and mendecino fire. a lot of stress still for those folks. look at the winds. normally they are at the highest elevations, and this time they will be down in the lowest elevations around the bay. they could cut up to 650 miles per hour. a couple of things, because they are moving perpendicular to our east-west bridge, going to be a lot of tugging at that steering wheel. plus, they could bring down trees and power lines. we have heavy wet snow falling in the sierra. several more feet possible through 4:00 friday morning, and this is the way it looks like right now. let me show you my seven-day forecast for tahoe. light to moderate snow today, heavy snow thursday. snow showers friday, and can you sneak up there friday afternoon because more snow is come. saturday light to moderate and
