and napa looking at heavier cells. martiners. 680 walnut creek, rain. more scattered in san francisco. but down towards 880 wet as well as san mateo 280 and scattered showers in boulder creek. we have two-mile visibility in petaluma. it's cool. chilly showers throughout the afternoon today. highs only in the mid-50s and this is not our only opportunity for rain the next seven days. butly time it out coming up. >> thank you, lisa. the 41st president of the united states george h. w. bush passed away at the age of 94 at his home in houston, texas. he spent his life in military and civil service. david muir with a look back at the life and legacy of an american hero. >> george herbert walker bush, america's 41st president. one of five children, he was the son of a banker and politician.

he would later meet the love of his life barbara pierce at a christmas day. he was the first boy she would kiss. the following year on his 18th birthday he enlisted in the war, the youngest pilot in the u.s. navy. while overseas george and barbra kept up with the romance. two years in on his 50th mission he was shot down over the pacific. >> i knew if i wasn't rescued i would be captured. and it was dsh it was a harrowing experience. >> but he was rescued and he made it home to barbara. he attended yale, the captain and first baseman of the baseball team. he and barbara would have six children. and two daughters. dorothy and robin who died of leukemia at the age of 3 in 1953. it was a loss that broke both of them. >> he was very close. >> i was very close to her.

heaven. there is a heaven. and -- i don't fear it. when i was a little guy i would fear death. i had worried about it. i'd be scared. not anymore. >> and that was david muir reporting. bush senior visited the bay area multiple times during his presidency. the most notable was after the deadly loma prieta earthquake. coronell bernhard has the details. >> just spoke with former san francisco mayor art agnos who says he will never forget president george h. w. bush's after the earthquake. mayor agnos led the city. he says george bush was responsive in the days and weeks after the quake. he came to the bay area and toured places hardest hit. he stopped to listen to what first responders and city officials needed from washington. >> i am deeply moved by this.

deeply moved by it, sad in some ways. and yet genuine appreciation for the way this community is pulling together. >> he was a president who cared about the entire country and he showed it in the loma prieta earthquake in 1989 when he came here in a prompt fashion. he spent a lot of time here listening carefully to what we needed. and his administration was most responsive to us when we asked for the kind of help thap would bring this city back. >> bush also visited san francisco later on in 1990 to campaign for then gubernatorial republican candidate pete wilson who won the race and served two terms as governor. former mayor agnos said he joins with the nation sending condolences to the bush family. he called the former president a true statesman. you can remember george h.

earthquake zone. and i don't think this is a temporary matter of a week or two. this is more significant than that. >> kristen sze, abc 7. >> here in the threat the major of a major quake is always present. the california pacific medical center san francisco's newest hospital has the latest technology for absorbing a quake called wall dampers. the building is fitted with steel panels filled with material as thick as peanut butter >> these are like shock absorbers working whether up or down or side to side motion. >> it's the first building in north america to use the technology. the california pacific medical center is scheduled to open in 2019. on abc 7 news.com we have a complete list of what to pack in an earthquake kit for your home. and even if you already have a kit, it's a good reminder to check it twice a year. the time is 5:10 on saturday

you can see the green on the screen indicating the rainfall throughout the bay area. for now much of the activity over the north bay. some parts of san francisco as you can see on the screen also hit with rain. and over to the east the northeast, skroom, stockton, the valley over there getting hit too. well get a check of the full forecast from lisa argen in just a little bit. she let's us know when the rain is expected to hit the south bay. but first happening today, the 121st big game between cal and stanford taking place two weeks after originally scheduled. the kickoff at noon at memorial stadium. cal students held a rally trying to fire up fans while respecting victims of the wildfires. abc 7 news reporter katie utehs explains. >> reporter: as cal fans gild the greek theater for the big rally, the big news was still up in the air. >> something really sfwlrs two

weeks ago dangerous air quality from the deadly fire in butte county postponed the rally and the 121st matchup between uc berkeley and stanford. >> we are setting this up and definitely didn't want to put everybody through the smoke. >> friday's reschedule had all the traditions. cal fight songs. but the legendary bonfire scene in this archive video. >> it's a tradition dating back all the way to 1903 when the greek was made. >> did not happen this year out of respect for the camp fire victims. normally at this point in the rally the bonfire would be lit. but in place students pulled out the cell phones to have the same spirit. >> i'm so proud of them understanding that both the fire was dangerous but also understanding the symbolism just didn't work in the context of this loss. >> the rally committing is fund raising for the california fire foundation and the university is giving 1,000 tickets to first

vallejo, pretty good rain. it's a little more scattered but you have the rain on seventh street by emeryville, alameda and oakland light showers. also into san francisco, around brings bane and the bay have you looking at wet weather. san ramon and walnut creek wet start for you np ties to stay in bed and wait until it passes. not quite too wet in the south bay but scattered showers from milpitas, mountmenten and around the santa cruz mountains. it's snowing in the speara nevada pan chains as you heard are advised and required as we look at the winter storm warning for the sierra nevada. one to two feet expected. and the heaviest snow will be through noon with anywhere from about two inches per hour. we have a winter weather advisory for lake shasta and reason o and yosemite. 5,000 feet could pick up a foot of snow with the travel

difficulties. it's been a nice end to november. as we begin december adding up snow total as half foot in donner. maybe a food towards kirkwood and current numbers are chilly, 46 santa rosa. 51 in oakland. 49 in mountain view. looking at winds gusting to over 36 miles an hour. mount tam around mount diablo. at the surface gusty winds at sfo. you can see the camera shaking from the sutro tower camera. the showers spreading this morning. colder mornings tomorrow and monday now we have gusty northwest winds and that will keep us from getting too frosty tomorrow morning, the atmosphere with the wind mixing. and we are looking at more rain next week. here we go timing it out early on in the north bay. by the next hour or two pushing through the east bay and through san francisco. the peninsula, 9:00 this morning, it's a little more scattered and we have rain in the south bay lingering through about the noon hour.
