united states, george h. w. bush, passed away at 94 at his home in houston, texas. he spent his life in military and civil service. world news anchor david muir with a look back at the live and legacy of an american hero. >> george herbert walker bush, america's 41st president, born june 12th, 1924 in milton, massachusetts one of five children. a son of a banker and politician. later meeting the love of his life barbara pierce at a christmas dance. he was the first boy she would kiss. the following year on his 18th birthday george enlisted in the war, becoming the youngest pilot in the u.s. navy. while overseas george and barbara kept up the long distance romance with love letters to his darling bar. two years in on his 50th mission he was shot down over the pacific. >> i knew if i wasn't rescued i would be captured. and it was- it was a harrowing experience. >> but he was rescued and he

mayor art agnos saying he will never forget the visit of the george h. w. bush. he says george bush senior was responsive in the days and weeks after the quake in 1989. bush came in the bay area and toured the places hardest hit. he stopped to listen to what first responders and city officials needed from washington. >> "i" deeply moved by this. deeply moved by it. sad in some ways. and yet genuine appreciation for the way in community is pulling together. >> he was a president who cared about the entire country. and he showed it in the loma prieta earthquake in 1989 when he came here in a prompt fashion. he spent a lot of time here listening carefully to what we needed. and his administration was most responsive to us when we asked for the kind of help that would

morning at 8:30. but the tremors could be felt more than 200 miles around. no deaths or injuries are reported. but officials are dealing with damage to buildsings and roads. 22,000 power outages were reported including downtown anchorage and the military base. 28 water main breaks spurred a precautionary water advisory. the red cross is working to provide shelter and resources process. but officials say it's an uphill battle here is kristen sze. >> roads buckling lights swinging. floors covered in debris. it was 8:29 in the morning, a cold, icy day is in anchorage when everything start the shaking. >> i lived here since '83. >> melody blankenship was upstairs at our abc news affiliate inning and rinl. saying she could hear the quake before she could feel it. >> like a train going by on the tracks. it was a huge jolt, just huge.

we are taking a live look at live doppler 7 on saturday. lisa has been tracking the rain. you can see it all over the bay area. the heavier pockets to the north of san francisco and emeryville. we'll find out just how long this lasts coming up in the full accuweather report. happening today, the 121 big game between cal and stanford takes place two weeks after originally scheduled. smoke from the camp fire forced the game's postponement kickoff at noon at memorial stadium. last night cal students held a rally trying to fire up fans while respecting victims of the wildfires. abc 7 news reporter kitty utehs explains. >> reporter: as cal fans fill the groek theater for the big game rally, the big news was still up in the air. >> i have to start with something really serious. >> two weeks ago dangerous air quality from the fire in butte county postponed the rally and the 121st match jum between uc

happening today, thousands of people will gagt ner san francisco for world a.i.d.s. day. abc 7 news was in golden gate park last night for a candle light vigil paying tribute for those who died. supporters will be there voicing support for those in the fight against a.i.d.s. >> it's a way to gather together and redouble efforts to find a cure, but most importantly we can honor and remember the memories of the nearly 750,000 americans we lost. and it must be remembered the epidemic is not over. we have made progress in places like san francisco but there is so much work to be done especially in states where there is not access to health care. >> today's event is free. it starts at noon at the national a.i.d.s. memorial in golden gate park. happening today,nouses of competitors take over san francisco for the world's largest obstacle race. the spartan race returns to at&t park this week. bringing a three-mile sprint

caltrain holiday train returns to the beau in weekend. the glittering show train has been a tradition for the past sixteen years. it's decoratewood more than 75,000 lights. the festive events brings holiday treats, entertainment and characters to nine stations. visitors are asked to bring new unwrapped toys for the toy drive. the train arrives at 4:00 this afternoon at the station at fourth and king. and a final weather check with lisa. >>s in the way we like to see the live doppler 7. maybe stay inside for a bit.
