causing all five lanes southbound closed. katy euless said the bus in the air before catching on fire. >> reporter: the black smoke bill e lowed from are the bus on interstate 580. passing motorists shot video around 5:30, and cameras showed how far the fire could be seen in the darkness. chp shutdown all five lanes of highway 24 west as the firefighters tried to extinguish the flames. we caught up with the passengers who were taken to the bus station and some inside still filling out paperwork. this woman was there on the bus. >> it was a loud bang and then people hit the roof of the bus and it was like, whoa, what happened. >> reporter: chp is

investigating, but she believes it is a tire or broken axel. >> there was enough time for us to evacuate. >> reporter: she says seven passengers and a bus driver got off without injury. the passerby held on to t on tot three people and took people back to the bus station. and then took another bus, but even that bus had trouble. >> i would say planes and trains. >> reporter: or in this case a ride share to the rescue. abc 7 news. now to a story only on abc 7. a woman has been are reunited with a treasured possession, her father and grandmother's ashes. they were stolen from her

family's storage unit, and thanks to our story, the family has the ashes returned. jobina fortson has the story. >> there was a surprise discovery last week. >> like plastic bags. >> there was a plastic bag full of ashes, and the name tag in there. >> reporter: the neighbors called the hayward police, but the investigation seemed to go nowhere. >> we were striking out until we looked on the internet and we found a news story from abc 7 that it was a woman who was talking about a burglary to her storage shed. >> reporter: this is where we with start to connect the dots. we introduced you to a devastated joyce roberterson. >> they said that there were

are up heading out for some breakfast or a walk, do grab a jacket, because it is definitely a bit nippy. we will have more on that from lisa in a bit. right now, a bay area group has made the trip to the o border to deliver hundreds of gift bags. they showed the volunteers putting the bags together in mcallen, and now today they will walk to an old walmart that has been converted into a housing of over 1,500 boys who made the journey no the united states on their own. while the family's dream vacation to the bahamas took a terrifying turn when a docile nurse shark went on the attack. a family swimming with the sharks was told it is completely safe because of the size and the nonthreatening behavior, and so 8-year-old asher walked into the water and that is when one of the sharks sunk his teeth into the back, and his father immediately are reacted.

>> i was able to grab on to the shark as it grabbed his back and my left fingers went into his gill, and my right hand touched on the fins, but as soon as i did that, the shark let him go. >> an emt and pediatrician were nearby and helped the boy, and fortunately the injuries were not serious, and he did not even need stitches. scary. and uber may have plans for motorized scooters. according to the tech site, they are considering buying the scooter line, and they say that uber has met with both companieses and could make a decision by the end of the year. they bought bike company jump earlier in the year which also has scooters. this season, people had a chance to make the gifts they give eco-friendly. we went to fort mason for the first zero waste and holiday market. it featured 20 local vendors

sharing eco-friendly gifts and the event did not have a garbage can. the goal was to create no waste during the holiday market. they plan to the hold another eco-friendly market in the summer and expanded the holiday market next year. a trip to the north pole to meet santa is a short flight away. some bay children who were in the hospital got the ultimate experience yesterday. united airlines transformed a gate into a winter wonderfulland and the flight was decked out with elf flight attendantse how cute. and they enjoyed special treats with friends. good morn ing ing to you. live doppler 7, you can see the top of mount st. helena, and you see the numbers there that are

cold. temperatures in the 30s in the north bay and inland east bay with 34 in danville, and 37 in livermore and mid-30s in the east bay. and we have 43 in oakland and now half moon bay at 38. so clear and cold and looking at a sunny afternoon. the temperatures are a little bit below average. it looks like a wet tuesday morning commute which will continue into wednesday, but we made big gains into november, and the percent of normal for napa is 126%, and oakland is not far behind with san jose at 114%. and you see san francisco and santa rosa 163%. and anywhere from a quarter inch to half an inch rain with a vigous storm system later in the day. so it is cool and sunny and the clouds beginning of the to increase on monday, and so a couple of dry days and once again a nice break in between the systems. and tuesday, we are expecting a level one with light scattered

showers, and rainfall from a tenth to a quarter inch, and once again, the winds will pick up. and starting the forecast animation late in the day monday and this is midnight tuesday as we get towards 5:00 or 6:00, we will have rain up main the nort bay. this is an area of low pressure that usually is hard to determine where it is going to land. so it is going to meander off of the coast for several days. so as we with get into 11:00 tuesday, you will see the showers here, and this is likely going to change, but as we get through the rest of the day, we have scattered showers throughout the afternoon, and perhaps the evening commute, and then another wave of energy wants to come into the bay by wednesday. this is midnight, and so we are watching a couple of wet days throughout the middle of the week, but as for today, the numbers are cool, and we will see the highs only in the mid-50s, and 54 in san francisco, and sunshine is going to help us out a little bit and not much of a range here, and the range in concord and freemont hills here between 50

and now the police need to find them. the woman said yes, but then he dropped the ring and it fell down a yu tutility grate. you can see it is caught on camera, and they are looking for the ring friday night moments after the proposal and the pair asked for help, but the off sers could not find it so they left without giving my contact informati information. the police actually came back this morning and recover and cleaned the ring and now they have to find that couple so they can reunite it. and take a look and spread that video. still the come on "abc7 a mass under way in alaska after a magnitude 7.0 earthquake. the progress made to back to normal. it is a long time since we put a man on the moon, and why

good morning, east bay. let's get up and get going. >> this is "abc7 mornings." >> and it is 5 c:30 and we will start this after hour with meteorologist lisa argen and a look at the cool sunday weather. >> yes, that is right, kate. you will need the heavy coat or wait a while, because it is going to take quite a while to warm up. looking at the numbers on the inland east bay, we have 35 at walnut creek, and 35 in brentwood. and dublin an livermore, but up in the mid-30s at at santa rosa, 34 in pacifica with 42 and certain areally one of the coldest mornings that we have seen in a while. 7 to 13 degreesle cooler than yesterday. yesterday we had all of the rain and the breezy conditions, and we will be looking the temperatures to stay cool are through 10:00, and about 50 in oakland, but we have sun on the way, and in fact, a mostly sunny sky with temperatures in the low to mid-50s by 2:00, and then by later on in the day, we will see the clouds and the numbers dropping through the 40s.

it is going to be a dry sunday and monday before this rain moves back and once again, we have a nice couple of day break before we bring in the storm impact scale. details in a few minutes. kate. >> thank you, lisa. in anchorage, alaska, there was extensive damage to roads, highways and infrastructure following the powerful 7.5 magnitude earthquake and followed by a 7.2 quake. and fortunately no deaths or injuries are reported. we have the latest. >> reporter: a massive 7.0 earthquake rocked anchorage, alaska, friday sending the degree crashing to the ground and damaginging buildings and causing major infrastructure damage. students were terrified as the quake rocked their school. >> we are going to die. >> reporter: and the scene of the air traffic controller

collap collapsing, flights were halted for several hours. saturday, the officials announced that power had been restored to almost all customers, and hospital s as ar open in and the airport is operational. >> we had this level of emergency, and it is working. >> reporter: with wind and snow forecasted, residents are encouraged not to be on the roads. this is looking more like a construction site in anchorage. this is a twisted pipe underneath the road, and there is damage across this area. >> reporter: the alaskan governor has spoken to the president. >> he said that we will help you the rebuild what you have lost. >> reporter: the president tweet ing to the people of alaska, you have been hit hard by a big one and your federal government will spare no expense. mark millard, and now, more than 3,000

people have been able to be located who were originally are reported missing. the sheriff says no human remains were located despite the ongoing efforts to sift through the debris. 88 people died. and now, a benefit to help those affected by the fire in butte county. tickets start at $150 and 100% of the proceeds will be donate nod north valley community foundation, and the event is at hot monk tavern at noon and the concert unruns until 10:00 tonight. on the peninsula, dozens of soldiers are back in the bay area after helping out with the fire. the medical unit was headed for training when it was turned around and sent to butte county. the members spent 15 days helping out. >> i would classify it as chaos,

but it was oorganized chaos. butte county did a tremendous job of getting the other resources in place, and when we got there, all we had to do was to set up the hospital and deal with the patients. >> since they missed out on thanksgiving, they decided to celebrate it yesterday. we thank all of them for helping. many of the first responders who helped in the camp fire were treated to a seat at memorial stadium to watch cal take on stanford for this year's big game. hundreds of tickets to firefighters, police, medics and those who helped those impacted by the wildfire. the game as you remember was postponed for two weeks because of the smoke that made the bay they ap preepreciated the gestu but they said that their work in butte county was part of the job. >> i am grateful to be here. i am here with my son watching football, but all of the firemen who were a part of the wildland
