that. >> but now pat has been forced to accept it. his body had been found in a wooded area in kentucky not far from where he was last seen on november 10th. he was 79. talk about a history maker, starting at kgo radio in 1977 this man seemed to do it all during the day, which was fascinating since he was up all night. his show on kgo radio was from 1:00 to 5:00 a.m. >> he was more than just a voice that drifted through the night to those of us who were insomniacs. >> he made a difference in the lives of so many. he served as president as san francisco naacp chapter, and president of the leukemia society where he raised millions of dollars with the help of abc 7 news. >> we're all just heartbroken over ray's death.

it's interesting because it was exactly 7 years ago yesterday that kgo changed the format and the overnight voice of ray taliaferro was silenced but now tragically his voice truly is silenced. >> his son says the death is being investigated by the fbi. he adds his father was recently married and that his wife of just a few months has not been heard from at this point. he also says she did not initially inform police her husband had dementia when he disappeared. >> the family has not yet announced any funeral plans, but we'll keep you posted if any p here in the bay area. chilly out there tonight. let's check in with abc 7 meteorologist drew tuma.

>> temperatures are tanking tonight, and those freeze warnings go up shortly. current temperatures spots right now in the north bay, napa, santa rosa, 48 degrees. we're down to 41 currently in livermore. that freeze warning goes into effect at midnight for those areas shaded in purple. much of the north bay, santa rosa, napa, san rafael, even fairfield into that freeze warning. out the door tomorrow morning you'll want to have that winter coat, the hat, the gloves, the scarves because most spots starting well into the 30s for your monday morning. once we thaw out from this cold, we'll have details on our next wet weather system coming up. >> sounds good, drew, thanks. well, a cat is dead and several people are staying somewhere else tonight after an apartment fire in san francisco. abc 7 news was at the scene at larken and california streets in the knothill neighborhood. it started about 4:30 this

afternoon and the building quickly filled with smoke. one neighbor told abc 7 news it smelled like someone was barbecuing inside. all the residents from the complex did make it out safely. >> extremely big smoke, like big smoke, very dark like this, deep gray, coming out like this. right after that there was huge flames, like big flames. >> the california street cable car line did shutdown while firefighters cleaned up. there is no word on what sparked the fire. we are getting a new look tonight at what's left of a gray hound bus after it burst into flames on a busy freeway in oakland. it's now parked at a tow truck company's yard. investigators are still working to figure out what sparked last night's fire. all seven passengers and the driver escaped without getting hurt. one passenger says they heard a loud bang before seeing flames.

the fire broke out along east bay 580. today marks the second anniversary of the ghost ship fire that cost the lives of 76 people. how the victims are being remembered. >> reporter: they called it a boom box procession. several dozen people slowly making their way up international boulevard in memory of friends and families lost in the ghost ship warehouse fire. >> after two years it just doesn't go away. it's still there. >> reporter: keith and sue are making a painful return to the ghost ship on this two-year anniversary to remember their daughter dona who died >> she had bright red hair and she really liked people and people liked her. >> i thought it was important to be there for anybody else who

wanted to talk. >> reporter: 36 party goers gathered for a concert on december 2, 2016 and were trapped with no way out when a fire became a raging inferno inside. he got emotional reading the names of the victims. >> this is where i lost my best friend and not just my best friend, a whole community of really talented people. >> reporter: the oakland mayor libby shaft tweeted today our community mourns the second anniversary of the ghost ship fire that claimed 36 beautiful lives. the defendants in the fire were both involved in running the artcaar artist collective. both are now headed for trial. >> as long as it doesn't happen again and that the people responsible get justice and not just the people currently waiting trial. >> reporter: firefighters have stopped by the scene to pay their respect, a memorial of

neighborhood obtaining the perfect christmas tree isn't always an easy task. >> the top of it has to be in the middle so you can put a star on it. >> you have to authentic smell, no fake tree. it just doesn't do it justice. >> reporter: and then there's the cost. your average christmas tree around this size costs around $150. but the big ones like that can be up to $1,000. an average the price per christmas tree is up $10 to $20 this year. one reason, there's a shortage of trees. >> it's challenging to get trees right now due to the drought, but we've managed. in fact we've gone through a record number this year. >> reporter: along with the drought there's the financial crisis of 2008. demand dropped so farmers planted fewer trees, which take 7 to 10 years to grow. most of these trees which from oregon. in 2010 there were almost 700 licensed growers.

those temperatures in the 30s tomorrow widespread first thing. so you have the winter coat, the gloves, the hat. issue going to be a cold start to the work and school week. live doppler 7 coming up empty handed right now, but rain is about 36 hours away. oakland right now about 48 degrees. down to 46 currently in san mateo. down to 41 in san ramon. but you'll look off to the north bay and well into the 30s at this hour. 39 in napa and freezing mark in clear lake. certainly going to be a cold night. most spots around the bay shoreline will stay upper 30s to loy lower 40s. if not below the freezing mark. so that is why we have that freeze warning in effect until tomorrow morning at 9:00 in the morning. all these areas shaded in purple will likely see their temperatures tomorrow morning close if not 32 degrees. you obviously want to take your

pets inside. protect those plants because tomorrow morning it will be rather chilly. so the winter gear needed first thing in the morning. you don't need the umbrella tomorrow. tomorrow it is a dry day, but it is a cool day in the afternoon. we'll call it mid-50s from the coast to the bay and inland under a mixture of sun and clouds rather. and those clouds arriving here on tuesday. so the storm impact scale, a level one system coming our way on tuesday. we'll track those light showers moving onshore. rainfall for most cities anywhere from a quarter to about half an inch of rain through tuesday evening. and the winds will begin to pick up as well. 15 to about 30 miles an hour. let's go hour by hour. we'll jump ahead early tuesday morning, we'll stop the clock by about 2:30 in the morning. perhaps a couple of light sprinkles moving onshore, but it's really about 9:00, 10:00 in the morning on tuesday. and we'll track those light showers on and off throughout the day. so today afternoon by 2:00 we're

still track that wet weather moving through the region, and right now it does look like that today commute as well will feature some rain moving through. like we said most spots about a quarter to half an inch of rain. if we do see a downpour setup somewhere, we'll likely see a bit more than that. but i think most spots will see light amounts of rain. tuesday morning along the coast so pretty active. about 30 miles an hour. but tuesday afternoon i think we'll all feel that wind. likely those wind gusts area around 20 to 30 miles an hour as that system moves through. tomorrow all about that chill in the morning. with freeze warnings in effect. it's a dry day. those light showers move in here on tuesday and looks like it'll linger into parts of our wednesday and thursday a ripple of weak energy moves through. it looks like the best chance will likely be the south bay for any wet weather and our next chance of rain comes on sunday.

in the investigation. a cat is dead and several people are displaced after an apartment fire in san francisco. there's no word on what sparked that fire. this sunday marks one year since a terrible crash on the bay bridge that destroyed a tollbooth and killed a toll taker. >> now, the lane has been closed to commuters since then, but now after questions from the abc 7 i-team transportation officials have finally decided to reopen it. >> abc 7 reporter dan noise has the story. >> reporter: 46-year-old cal trans employee han died when a drunk driver in a truck demolished her tollbooth. since then that lane has been closed to commuters. on monday with the one year anniversary coming this weekend, i e-maile cal trans when the lane might ereopen. the response no decision yet, i'll let you know if i hear anything. i pressed. he referred me to the bay area toll authority, part of the

neighborhoods today. evacuation orders were lifted for areas in the communities of magalia and comcal. it consumed more than 153,000 acres, some 239 square miles, the fire killed 85 85 the santa fe earthquakes are increasing their efforts to help victims of that wildfire. abc 7 news was at the stadium today for this year's winter fest hosted by the quakes. the team says this event was dedicated to the victims with a portion of the proceeds going to the north valley community foundation and the paradise soccer teams. the quakes foundation already pledged $10,000 to wildfire victims. >> we wanted to have have an event in the off-season for fans to enjoy the stadium. we also have a canned food drive

tonight a florida family is begging apple for any information that could help them find a missing woman. carla was celebrating her 36th birthday in costa rica with her sister-in-law. her sister-in-law left a day ahead so she booked a night for herself at the airbnb. that's when she was last seen leaving and getting into an uber. her brother is in costa rica working with police and the u.s. embassy. she was carrying four apple products with her, which the family hopes can be traced to find her location. a car plowed into the a panda express.

one witness said it sounded like a gunshot. the woman driving the suv and a man who was riding with her have minor injuries. san jose police are trying to find out if the driver mistook the gas pedal for the brake. abc 7 news was also in san jose today after a car plowed into that panda express. we do have more information about that at our website, abc7news.com. well, a couple that made headlines after dropping an engagement ring in new york city has been found. abc 7 showed you this video last night of the couple searching for the ring friday evening in times square. police found it yesterday and attempted to find the couple on social media. the search was a success and the police will soon reunite the overseas couple with their ring. >> good news there. >> abc 7 news meteorologist drew tuma standing by with more on that. >> it's good sleeping weather with extra blankets on tonight.

we're going to have cold temperatures over the next 12 hours. freeze warning in effect until 9:00 on our monday. coldest spots santa rosa and clear lake. 46 currently in san jose. here's that freeze warning in effect for much of the north bay, parts of the inland east bay. that includes livermore, brentwood, and as far north as mendocino. lows tonight chilly and well into the 30s. couple of upper 20s. certainly have the heavy jacket, winter coat tomorrow morning, the hat and the gloves. midday we'll see temperatures in the mid-50s under a blend of sun and clouds out there. a cool afternoon monday but rain returns on tuesday. a level one storm on our storm impact. light system with light showers. rainfall probably a quarter to half of an inch in most cities and the winds will gust.
