after reaching an agreement with house lawmakers. comey and republicans on the house judiciary committee were in a legal fight over the hearing. comey has agreed to testify behind closed doors. the committee's republicans want to question comey about the fbi's investigation of hillary clinton's use of a private e-mail server and other topics. more than two dozen people have been hurt by a rare december tornado in central illinois. the twister packed winds of up to 120 miles per hour and ripped the roofs off homes. hardest hit was taylorville, about 23 miles southeast of springfield. at least 100 homes there have major damage. residents only had about 40 minutes' warning before that tornado touched down and it stayed on the ground for at least ten miles. a dozen other tornados were reported in illinois. it was part of a line of thunderstorms in the midwest from late friday into saturday. well, residents of the anchorage, alaska area are being told to stay home today. the region's roads took the major brunt of the massive earthquake friday and the

>> a rundown now of the four days of events for the former president. he will lie in state this evening and tomorrow. wednesday will be a national day of mourning with funeral services at washington's national cathedral. thursday, he'll be buried at the george h.w. bush presidential library at texas a&m university. hang with us right here. abc news will have live coverage. >> the former president's funeral might actually be what delays a possible government shutdown. the deadline for president trump and congress to reach a new spending deal is friday at midnight. the major sticking point is $5 billion that president trump is seeking to fund the construction of his border wall, but trump says he'd be willing to sign a two-week government funding extension to allow for ceremonies honoring former president bush. a major storm system is bringing heavy snow, rain and severe thunderstorms to the great lakes region overnight. the real damage from the system, though, came over the weekend. further south in central illinois, more than 20 tornadoes were reported there this weekend. abc's rob marciano has details.

>> reporter: the view from above this neighborhood ripped apart by a tornado, a rare midwest december tornado outbreak sweeping across illinois. this twister tearing through the town of taylorville. 21 people injured there as the tornado tore a destructive path right through the center of town. tornado sirens blaring across cass county with this tornado in havana swallowing daylight as it swirls. >> we are really close to this. >> reporter: watch how quickly this funnel spins, violently wiping up chunks of debris. less than 100 yards away from this driver in bluff county. >> i felt the wind forcing my car. it sounded like a train. >> reporter: with 22 tornadoes reported in the prairie state alone. earlier the same system turning deadly in missouri. an ef-1 tornado packing winds of 105 miles an hour. killing one man inside this aurora motel. rescuers carrying these children across rushing water to safety. and a tornado hitting along the
