decision. amanda del castillo is live in the south bay with a look at all the drama. amanda. >> reporter: yeah. jessica, reggie, after 10 hours of debate, s jose city council members made that landmark decision early this morning. critics have always been vocal, and last night was no different. abc 7 news was there as a loud and persistent group of demonstrators got everyone kicked out of chambers at 9:00 p.m. eight demonstrators chained themselves to their seats. police used bolt cutters to take off their chains and then arrested them. many who opposed the land sale tell abc 7 news they want more answers from google about what it plans to build. >> the demonstrations themselves i think they are justified. but there are things council needs to address. yeah, they say they are going to build housing but who is the

coverage of the state funeral starting at 7:00 this morning. you can watch the funeral on abc7news.com and on the abc 7 news app. a 6-year-old boy from the east bay is in the hospital with a traumatic brain injury. his mother's boyfriend is accused of abusing him. 23-year-old jonathan davis told investigators the boy hurry himself while falling downstairs last week. but doctors at kaiser hospital grew suspicious after examining the boy's injuries. investigators doubted him too. >> they pull the heart strings of our detectives. especially in this case where we have a child that is clinging to life that can't answer any questions or describe what took place. >> police say the boy's mother has not been cooperating with investigators, although they do not consider her to be a suspect at this time. a warning about protecting yourself from package thieves. a recent survey found more than

26 million americans had their packages stolen from their front porch during the holiday season last year. abc 7 news found many packages sitting out in the open in san francisco's brunnell heights neighborhood. sharon said a package was tucked away from the street and still a thief got it. >> i felt really upset that this person came, took this item and used my handrail to scurry off down the steps. and he kicked it at first. what was he thinking this was, take-oust food? wow. mail carriers are stepping up security. u.p.s. allows you to recruroute deliveries to stores orac sent points. and the postal service has the same thing called informed delivery. >> according to police in kentucky, a preliminary autopsy report found no signs of foul play. two teenagers found taliaferro's

body in paducah. he disappeared with a rental car in illinois. he may have been suffering from dementia. he was 79 years old. the first of what is expected to be many talks about extending the subway in san francisco. sfmta will hold a public hearing at 6:00 at marina school. they want your input. construction is currently under way for a station in chinatown. it's been going on for a long time. parking garages may become a thing of the past in san francisco. the board of supervisors voted to eliminate minimum parking requirements for all types of development. under the proposal, developers would not need to include parking spaces in their new projects. the board is expected to take a second vote on the measure next week. you are never more than 7 minutes away from my accuweather forecast.

public high schools in san francisco will welcome a new educator today. this is pepper the robot. it's an emotional humanoid robot built to benefit mankind. pepper will debut at galileo high school's girls coding club this afternoon. and a push to provide free preschool for more low-income children in california. democratic state lawmakers announced a package of bills that would increase spending on early childhood education programs by more than $2 billion. this would allow 100,000 more kids to attend preschool for free. california currently spends more than $1 billion each year to cover preschool expenses for 175,000 kids. look, i thought wendy's was savage. but burger king is topping miss

new this morning, a flight from oakland to paris had to be diverted. officials say a disorderly intoxicated passenger forced the plane to stop. the norwegian air shuttle flight took off from oakland just after 8:00 last night. it had to be diverted to the minneapolis/st. paul international airport in minnesota. police took the person off and took them to the hospital for special care. the plane took off without issue. on the peninsula, a cracked and leaning pg is and e power pole is still standing in pacifica. neighbors are worried it's one storm away from coming down. it was months ago marked for replacement. residents are frustrated. called the city. crews examined it yesterday but said it will get taken care of early next year. the reason they are giving is there are other power poles in worse conditions than this one that need more immediate condition. we reached out to pg&e for a comment but have yet to hear back. only on abc 7 news, find out
