his companies collected $28 million for people trying to pay off their student loans, promising to lower their loan payments and eventually have their debts forgiven. he ran ameritech financial in rohnert park and two other businesses. he was arrested just before boarding a flight to mexico. prosecutors say they have been investigating him for 10 months. some of his customers said they thought these were government agencies or at least affiliated with the government. many found their loans were in worse situations after working with these companies. freyr is due back in court on monday. live at sfo, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. amy, thank you. an alert neighbor is credited with helping catch a suspected package thief in milpitas. package thief in milpitas. take a look at the suspect.

this is romano mercurio. a neighbor called police after spotting him trying to hide the package under his jacket. police caught up with him a short time later and say the package was from a nearby home. a bart police officer shot grant in the back while he was laying on his stomach new year's day 2009. grant's relatives submitted a formal request to the bart board yesterday. they want to change the name of the fruitvale station to fruitvale grant station. it comes ahead of the 10-year anniversary of his killing. >> it would be bart saying, yes, it happened here. we vow to not let it happen again and to ensure all people are treated equally. >> bart says the name change is not possible, claiming policy prohibits stations being named after individuals. the agency has commissioned a mural at that station to honor grant. >> and the bart board approved a

student and being homeless at the same time. amazing. what to do about encampments that seem to be growing everywhere. >> the city of oakland demolished a homeless camp, a place where many women and children considered a safe haven. sit known as the village. it was on eades and clara street in east oakland. they cleaned it up, they built makeshift homes and made it a drug-free zone. one of the moms said the city targeted them for being a voice for the homeless. >> if we were prostitutes, selling drugs, buying drugs, robbing our neighbors, breaking into the neighborhood cars, they dealt with it like everything else. neglect them and leave them alone. we took care of the community and we are being punished for it. >> the city says it gave the families 72 hours notice to leave. they offered hotel vouchers and beds at other shelters. last week a judge ruled he could not prevent the city from clearing the camp.
