bike during a opportunity yesterday in the final act of the 4:30 show. a witness says on social media that the man fell on his neck or head and couldn't move. a cirque spokesperson said that he would be okay. the afternoon show had to end a few minutes early and the 8:00 show was canceled. happening today, the bay area is getting ready for a sea of red. the santacon hits the streets despite the city denying the permit. cornell barnard has more from union square. ♪ >> reporter: call it the calm before the storm, better known as santacon. >> are you you reaare ready? >> yes, going to be a party. >> reporter: dominic works security at the golden gate tap room that is getting ready to welcome thousand of thirsty santas like joel who never misses it. >> always bring back family and traditions where you come out

october 12th. >> i'm hearing loud, you know, someone being banged to the wall or something. >> reporter: officers were met at the door by then 49ers linebacker reuben foster, his girlfriend at the time came to the door crying and police say she initially stated that she was not okay. police attempted to interview them separately. and he was put in handcuffs. foster was detained in the back of a patrol car while ennis was interviewed. both said nothing physical happened. police took photos of both of them to show what they say was a lack of injuries. foster was released from custody and ennis given a domestic violence resource card. >> you feel safe if you came back in here? >> yeah. >> you don't think this is going to continue? >> no. >> reporter: and in an interview this week following foster's

arrest in tampa, ennis said foster had gotten physical with her three times including during this october incident. the d.a.'s office is exploring legal options. 49ers say they didn't know about the october incident until after the arrest in tampa. >> and informational type of report does not necessitate notification of anybody. >> reporter: foster is yet to cleared to play. the nfl has contacted the santa clara police department for more information on the october incident. in santa clara, matt keller, abc 7 news. new this morning, teachers at oakland high school are planning a work stoppage on monday to call attention to the bargaining issues. organizers plan to march to city hall where they hope to meet with the mayor. the work stoppage is not being sanctioned by the union. oakland teachers have been without a contract for about two years. they want a raise in line with inflation. district officials have not commented.

we're about an murder awhour aw sun advise. the full forecast is coming up. today marks one month since the start of the most destructive wildfire in california history. the camp fire claimed 85 lives, and destroyed more than 18,000 buildings nearly three out of four of those were homes. the fire destroyed much of the town of paradise. pg&e is now facing another lawsuit that accuses the utility company of negligence claiming the fire started because a power line failed and started to burn. the fire spread rapidly. we've pieced together a time line. take a listen. ♪

>> the butte county sheriff's office says six people remain unaccounted for. dogs are said to be man's best friend. a family returned home following the camp fire to find their dog madison waiting for them and watching the property. the owners could not find the dog as they evacuated last month. as you can see, the dog survived and waited weeks for them to return. in the wake of the camp fire, the city of san francisco is developing new plans on how to respond when bad air quality hits the bay area. mayor breed says now is the time to address climate change. good saturday morning to you. you need the coat out there, it

of clouds until late in the day. by that time the sun is setting at about 4:50. snow pack looking pretty good. northern sierra, 78%. yoe acceseaccep yosemite, 109%. statewide snow pack of about 104%. so if you are headed to the mountains, mid-40s with plenty of sun. teens to start out and then how clo more clouds for your sunday. the storm tomorrow night is a 1 on the storm impact scale. it will be bringing some rain. anywhere from a tenth to half an inch of rain. and as we time it out for you, you will notice by later day, we're looking at not only the cloudy conditions, but it will hold off until the evening hours and in fact overnight as it pushes through sonoma and marin. and just in time for the morning commute, pushing into the peninsula. the east bay and south bay though, it should begin to wash out by about 9:00 in the morning

influence the election from the shadows, motivated by greed and ambition. the recommendation, up to 42 months. cohen who says trump ordered the hush money payments himself sat down for more than 70 hours of interviews with robert mueller. mueller say he and cohen struck a deal. cohen pled guilty to lying to congress. mueller told the court cohen provided investigators details about russian efforts to contact the trump campaign during the election and that the information was credible and consistent with other evidence. mueller also disclosed why he ripped up a plea deal with paul manafort. he says that he lied about his contact with trump administration officials and long time ukraine based business associate identified as ex-russian intelligence. president trump has increased his attacks on mueller and

tweeted that the court filings totally clears him, but there is nothing in the documents that indicates that is the case. kenneth moton, abc news, washington. a man convicted of first-degree murder for driving his car into protesters in charlottesville could spend life in prison. james field is a self-professed neo-nazi. video captured him driving his car into a crowd last year. 32 heather heyer was killed and several people were severely hurt. field's sentencing will come at a later date, he faces 20 years to life. we've learned the deputy who died during a mass shooting in thousand oaks was killed by friendly fire. officials made that announcement yesterday, 12 people were killed in the shooting last month including sergeant ron helus. he was struck six times, five by the gunman and in the midst of the days on, once by a chp officer. according to the medical examiner, the initial wound were

survivable, but the sixth bullet struck his heart. a stewide campaign aimed at preventing drunk driving during the holidays is now under way. the highway patrol and the officer of traffic safety will be putting out ads soon encouraging you to make plans before you head out for the evening. they say drinking isn't the only problem, it is also drug use. drug related deaths are up 35% between 2006 and 2019. >> most people aren't making these choices in a vacuum. they are at a party, whatever the situation is, so we need to start watching out for each other. >> officials say people have all sorts of options like ride sharing services that make it easier than ever to avoid driving impaired. abc 7 news is committed to building a bay area which means that we are looking at the big issues and what could make them

better. issues don't get much bigger than housing and san francisco continues to lose affordable housing almost as quickly as it builds it. the city keeps track of how many new units are market rate and how many are earmarked for low income tenants. but for every two new affordable housing units, the city loses one existing unit. lyanne melendez explains what the city thinks the solution should be. >> reporter: building more affordable housing has long been a goal, but the battle to keep people here has been more challenging than anyone predicted. >> we have people living there 44 years in the richmond district. all of a sudden the building is being sold and they are looking at being evicted. >> reporter: and that is nothing new. what is different is the somewhat recent approach taken by nonprofits like the council of community housing organization. its co-director promotes the development of permanent affordable low income housing. he thinks the solution lies in small site acquisitions.

for example, take this building, the grand orient hotel in the south park district was recently purchased by another nonprofit with the sole purpose of making it 100% affordable. >> through acquisition, we can take existing housing and stabilize them. >> reporter: and today in all there are 40 buildings that have been purchased. the problem is that there isn't a steady influx of money to buy and restore them. but recently san francisco announced that it had received an unforeseen amount of money from property taxes. several supervisors are now proposing that a portion of that money be used towards property acquisitions. >> we need to look at all the possibilities that exist for the purposes of not only preserving existing affordable housing, but generating more. >> reporter: loopholes in the condo laws and conversions are partly responsible for the loss. monday they will discuss whether
