sign telling santas to stay away. extra police officers on duty keeping santas on the street. the chief says keeping everybody safe is no easy task. >> we want to make sure everybody is safe. a lot of people go out to the nightclubs and festivities. a lot of drinking. tupelo bar is totally packed. they removed all the traffic for the extra room. >> so far, so good. it will get worse later. at some point, it ends. everybody has a great time. it is what it is. >> reporter: she said despite the crowds and the chaos, her biggest day of the year. last year, they arrested ten people for public intoxication. no update for what happened this year. >> participants are encouraged

canceled but shows will resume tonight. this comes months after another performer died after he fell to the ground in an aerial stunt in florida in march. new at 6:00, san francisco police are searching for a gunman that shot a man in the abdomen. it happened just after 3:00 p.m. witnesses say the two were arguing before it happened. the victim either walked or was helped to the north pd station. he was then taken to the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. officers blocked the area to investigate. tonight, the search is on for a driver who took off after crashing into san francisco bay from highway 101. it happened in the morning. the man got out of his black mazda suv flagging down a car and then took off.

no other passengers were in the vehicle. teachers are looking at a work stoppage on monday. organizers will march to city hall where they hope to speak to mayor. the stoppage is not being sanctioned by the union. oakland teachers have been without a contract. they do want a race when it comes to inflation. new at 6:00, the national park service is wanting to learn more about a sea lion that was shot in the aide. a visitor saw the sea lion and snapped a photo which officials do encourage as long as you don't get do too close. he was seven years old and born on san miguel island. the person behind that shooting is unknown. six people are looking for a new place to stay after an early morning fire that spread outside

the house on lone tree lane. flames destroyed two parked vehicles just before 4:30 this morning. firefighters say nobody was hurt. they do believe the fire started inside the kitchen of the home. they are assisting six people displaced including two children. it has been one month since the campfire grew to the deadliest fire ever. it killed 85 people in beute county and destroyed 18,000 buildings. flames chars 239 square miles an area a little bigger than san francisco and san jose combined. millions of people breathed unhealthy air from the smoke and investigators are still trying to find what sparked that inferno. if you are interested in learning more or would like to donate, visit our website at abc

7 news.com. president trump announced today the chief of staff john kelly will leave his job at the end of the year. he has been chief of staff since july 2017. trump said today, kelly is, quote, a great guy and he doesn't know if kelly is officially retiring. kelly has not commented on the announcement. papers filed by mooul detail how they do believe president trump's personal attorney broke campaign finance law. he pleaded guilty this year to several charges including tax evasion and making illegal campaign contributions. he insisted today that his campaign did not clued with russia trying to influence the 2016 election. >> a very one sided situation
