good morning, bay area, we will get up and get >> this is "abc7 mornings." >> good morning and thank you for joining us on this sunday, december 9th. i'm kate larson, and we will start this hour looking at at weather with meteorologist lisa ar ar jen, and it is looking foggy out there. >> yes, it is, kate. we have not seen much difference in the east bay valley, because the fog is just sitting in some of the stubborn valley locations. live doppler 7 is showing you that it is cloudy around the bay area, and rain po the north, but first the fog. half-mile visibility in concord and petaluma which is still less than mile, and at the delta a fog advisory, and two miles in sfo with delays of 30 to 40

minutes. and as we go into the next hour the fog will slowly lift, and visibility improves and a little sunshine out there. there is the san jose 101 and not much fog there, and pretty good in the south bay. and from mt. tam, the pretty view here with with the clouds above and below, and livermore at 40 degrees and so the forecast throughout the day calls for mid conditions and cooler day today and dry tonight and i will tell you when the rain arrives coming up. >> thank you, lisa. more fema trailers are expected to arrive in butte county as they will serve for temporary housing for the evacuees. these are the trailers arriving and kept in a rv park in corning. we have new information about how there is help out there for some people whose homes were damaged or destroy ed ined in tp fire, and federal officials say that they will not be losing disaster assistance if they cannot get their home inspected within the next month.

tonight, stevie wonder's annual convert to raise money for firefighters and those who have been fortunate to do something for those less fortunate. the toy collection has collected hundreds of thousands of toys for people with disabilities and families in need. it will be held in staples center in los angeles. for the first time the wife of bay area radio legend ray taliaferro is responding to his death. authorities say there were no science of foul play, but his son has decided to hire a private investigate or the. we have the latest. >> reporter: and so, police have heard from police and everybody but his wife. we have received an exclusive statement afrom her just as the son has hired a private

investiga investigator to look into the father's case. >> reporter: he was last seen alive at this church in paducah, kentucky, november 10th. two teenagers found him dead in a wooded area three weeks later. the autopsy said there were no signs of foul play, but the son feels different story. >> i feel like there was foul play to bring him to that area to be gin with, and there is something going. >> reporter: cheryl crawford was married to him for a new months before he vanished and the two were checking out this property in south earn illinois. and the son has now hired a private investigator the look into the case. crawford is aware of the case, and said that we are sadden ed y the loss of my beloved ray and hope that his loved ones and friends can come together to honor a pioneer. >> as he drove away, and my father was not a

and when he left the show he always caught a cab. >> reporter: and the son believes that the paducah police department believes they dropped the ball in investigating the death. a family spokesperson for crawford says she hopes to have a memorial in san francisco as well and include his family. reporting in the newsroom, abc 7 news. authorities are are searching for a driver who caught another ride after his suv veerd off of highway 101 and in into the san francisco bay. it happened yesterday at 9:30 in the morning near candlestick park. witnesses t officers say no oneles inside is of that suv. this morning the pg&e crews are working the e replace a leaning pole in pacifica.

a neighbor shared this security video. it shows them making repairs yesterday after an abc 7 news last week about how the pole had been marked for repair in august and nothing done since then, and one woman said she got a note about the construction and possible outage after the report aired. >> i got a call from the senator jer are ri hill's office saying they had seen the television news clip about the situation, and they were calling to check in with us and to call pg&e, and say that they wanted to, you know, get on it. >> pg&e said that the pole was structurally sound and no danger of it actually falling, but a resident says that pg&e is out there replacing the pole right now. a rocket launch from vandenburg air force base has been postponed because of some sort of problem after it was set to take the off from santa barbara. and katy spoke to a scientist at

the science center. >> reporter: this recent rocket launch cast a bright streak across the sky. the mysterious looking object prompted calls to our newsroom, and also to the space science center. >> well, they want to know what it is. and they don't understand it. a lot of people believe it is a meteor. >> reporter: the launch was scheduled from santa barbara expected to look similar or even brighter, but adding to the mystique, it is actually a spy satellite. >> these are satellites with very high resolution cameras on them, communications monitoring equipment, and they don't tell you a lot about it, because it is a seek are the, and anoth-- a secre secret, and a half hour before the launch. >> reporter: this will be sent ino orbit and it is the size of a small bus. normally we want to bring you a

tomorrow, mental health clinicians at two kaiser permanente sites will have a strike. this is the workers on the picket line in a strike in 2015. there will be rallies across the state including san francisco and san jose. they say that mental health patients are not getting the care they want. >> we are trying to advocatet for the greater returned a voe cat s

the that you are waking up to. this is over a mile, but that is bert than it has been up in concord and up to the north bay around santa rosa delays of about a mile. and parts of the south bay are doing much better, but this is the deal with the fog, it does move around from place to place quickly, but something staying in place is the big storm across the southeast with sleet, freezing rain and an icy snow mix from western tennessee through kentucky and virginia and solid snow through north carolina, and up to eight inches and even in texas, they picked up a foot of snow, and then you go to the southern portion of the system, and even some tornado watches in florida, and charlotte is shutdown and it is a while until the things get in better shape there due to the icing condition, and here is a nice view outside and you can see the clouds layered here, and it has been 46 in san jose and half moon bay at 54 degree, and

the vantage point there from the clouds above and below, it is 49 by the delta and that is where we have the dense fog coming in from the san a joaquin valley and the tower camera that you can see the fog cameras as well. you will see a chance of light rain for the monday morning commute, and showers arriving by the end of the week, and a couple of unimpressive systems headed our way, and we will watch for them, and at 10:00 today, ap it is foggy by walnut career, but by 11:00, peaks of sun, and then invaded by the high cirrus clouds this afternoon. we will bring in the storm impact scale for the early morning hours of monday morning with light showers and breezy winds at about 20-mile-an-hour

in the south bay, san jose state is opening up its first permanent student food pantry. the spartan food pantry is going to be located inside of the student union. according to the vice president, it is going to be 1,000 square feet and filled with fresh

produce and frozen meats and milk and a bread and canned goods and also a section for the personal hygiene products. the work for the pantry began ten years ago and this is coming after a report showing that san jose has the highest homeless student population of all statele schools. 11% of the schools in the 23-campus system are homeless, but at san jose state more than 13% are homeless or have dealt with homelessness in the last year. they are working with other organizations to come up with solutions. still to come on "abc7 mornings." president trump announces that the chief of staff john kelly will be out by the end of the year. what is next for the president's team? and a central valley teacher facing charges after being caught on camera cutting a caught on camera cutting a student's hair while this is a fight. not to the finish. caught on camera cutting a student's hair while but to the beginning.

l let's get up and get going. >> this is "abc7 mornings." it is 9:30 on this sunday morning. we hope that you are having a great start to the day. we are going to start this half hour with meteorologist lisa argen and a look at the clouds and fog behind you. >> yes, plenty of layers, kate, from the cirrus clouds and the low fog. and this is be you have had the worst fog here from concord to livermore livermore, and the fog dense advisory is in effect for a couple more hours. there is fog in mountain view at 45 and from the exploratorium camera, some sunshine is trying to break through the low clouds in the city, and vac kaville av still super foggy for you. and in east bay, and mountainview and concord, and santa rosa a quarter mile visibility, so it will take time, and with more cloud cover and partly sunny and cloudy

all over the area. we have this report. >> some drivers were struggling to putt their vehicles back on the road and some trucks were struggling to keep the roads drivable. rain changing to snow overnight and interstate is to a crawl and barely any pave mement is visib and one plow has been working this road. this is in the throes of a treacherous storm for the region with hundreds of thousands in the dark with power outages. virginia and north carolina under a state of emergency. receiving snowfall rates of one to two inches per hour and some areas getting a foot. >> it is time to hunker down and stay safe. >> reporter: emergency crews are staying by and road crews loading up. a combination of salt treat these roads.

this is one of the cities trying to beat back the storm in charlotte. the visibility is near zero on the icy roads and the same system leaving parts of texas buried in 10 inches of snow. this once crowded interstate is now deserted. and for those on the ground and in the air, and this morning more than 1,000 flights cancel and the airlines were issuing flight waivers to those affected by the storm. >> that is rob marciano reporting. and now the latest departure from the trump administration. president trump has announced that his chief of staff john kelly will leave by the end of the year, and the question now is who will replace him. david wright has more from the white house. >> as he headed off to watch the army/navy game, he dropped a saturday bombshell. >> john kelly is going to be leaving, but i don't know if i can say retiring, but he is a great guy, and john kelly will be leave big the end of the year. >> the chief of staff brought in

san francisco's crime fighters have the bay to raise money for the make-a-wish foundation. abc 7 news was at the park when the police an officers and many oth others took a quick dip yesterday. they call it plunge for wishes.
