breaking news in redwood city. police involved shooting. thanks for joining us. that shooting took place just before 9:00 this morning near lincoln avenue. officers reported to a home after get ago call about a suicide attempt in progress. they say they made contact with a man in a backyard and officers opened fire. officials say the man is in critical condition. no officers were injured as they continue to investigate police asking people to stay away. we'll continue to monitor this

we'll see partly cloudy conditions this afternoon. as you look outside right now temperatures are on the cool side in the low 50s. we won't be warming up too much. you can put the umbrellas away far little by but have them handy. i'll let you know when. >> okay. thank you. classes are in session today at oakland high school despite an unsanked one day teacher strike. 75 teachers are protesting over their demands for pay >> reporter: hi. they did hire some substitutes to cover them but they don't have enough. they did have to consolidate some classes. these teachers make no apologies. they say they want to be heard.

they marched into oakland's pla sa knowing they could get into trouble this morning. >> i am somewhat worried for our newer teachers but i know we'll do everything we can to protect them because they are great and we wan to keep every teacher we can in oak landland. >> they decided to today and show their support. >> i really care about my teachers. they really worked so hard. they are passionate about their job. my teachers will stay until 7:00 p.m. or later on a school day to help me with my college apps or just to chitchat. >> it is not a union backed strike. the district warned it is an illegal labor action. these teachers could face disciplinary action and loss of pay. this group ignored to warning saying they wanted to show they
