>> announcer: good morning, bay area. let's get up and get going. >> announcer: thb abc 7 mornings. it's saturday, does 15th. good morning and thanks for being with us. i'm chris nguyen. let's start with the first look at the forecast. here is meteorologist lisa argen tracking live doppler 7. >> good morning to you. and very weak returns are being picked up on live doppler 7 mainly along the shoreline and coast and extreme north bay. that's where we take you around mount st. helena. sea ranch. very light scattered showers. but here in the city. hazy sunshine. a spare the air alert in the north bay. moderate elsewhere. illegal to burn today. and look at mild numbers. 50s in san francisco. 57 in half moon bay. where it's cooler more clouds. san ramon and livermore and fog. visibility at three to four

miles. and our east bay valleys. the next hour we are all staying in the upper 50s. by 2:00 we have a few peeks of sun in the east bay. 63 in san jose at 2:00 with partly sunny conditions. the rest of us cooler and cloudier. a slight chance of isolated shower but clearing by evening hours. but also watching the wave heights. 10 to 13 feet from san francisco to the north. a high surf warning in aepgts of a pretty moderate storm headed our way that with will bring rain, some heavy rain at times and gusty winds. details and the timing of it in a few minutes. chris. >> thank you. as lisa mentioned stay away from the beaches in san francisco this weekend. especiallily ocean beach true monday night that's the warning from the emergency management time after the national weather service issued a high sush earnings of projected waves of 40 to 50 feet. smaller waves at china beach and into the bay near chrissy field.

>> visually you may think it's okay but the water and force of the water, specifically the tow is going to be so strong it could suck a person into the bay and you could become a victim. >> lieutenant baxter added that waves could be too severe for rescue crews to enter the water. look at this np. strong winds whipped up 4-foot waves on lake tahoe yesterday. the coast guard said people were out ob boards taking advantage of the surf. they advise surfers and boaters not to go in the water. remember always check the weather conditions where you live any time on the abc 7 news app. the chp is investigating a possible case of road rage after someone fired into a car on interstate 680 in pleasanton tp it may have started with an altercation in fremont and ending with the victim stopping in livermore. officers saw multiple shots were fired into the vehicle. friends of the shim say the shooing was random saying the

victim is in his early 20s and expected to survive. the driver was not hurt. friends say they were traveling home to stockton from the san jose area after work. officers do not have a description of the shooter or the car involved. any witnesses are asked to contact the chp. in the wake of the deadly explosions eight years ago in san bruno and the possibility that their equipment may have played a role in the north bay and butte county fires there is a banl shl report about pg&e, accused of lying for years about safety maintenance on natural gas lines. abc 7 news coronell bernhard has the details. >> disgusting. juptsing. >> reporter: former san bruno mayor jim ruane can't believe it. the california public utilities commission aching of pg&e of falsifying documents for years following the criminal conviction for the san bruno pipeline explosion in so you which killed 8 people. >> i mean, that's after san bruno. you'd think by then things would

fremont up to hercules. a breakthrough is allowing scientists to bring back ancient trees thought to be lost forever. yesterday they planted saplings from ancient redwoods in the presid joe in san francisco and the hope is that many years from now they may transform the grove to a beautiful landscape. larry beil has the story. >> san francisco's presidio maybe the most beautiful urban forest in the world. but workers helped to bolster what you might call its family tree. planting dozens of coast redwoods with a lineage dating back thousands of years. >> the sap willings were not just grown they were cloned. created in a lab from again etic material cultivated from some of the biggest and oldest we had redwoods on west coast joseph sandry is the ancient tree archive. they discovered that living material could be harvested from the stumps of massive redwoods

a half in the wettest locations. 30 to 40 miles an hour gusts and dangerous surf. throughout the morning hours it's windy, raining in the north bay. 7:30 up towards cloefrlg dale but the bulk of activity stays north in the early afternoon and slides south and east with the frontal passage with the heavy rain and gusty winds and moving through by the dinner hour and have leftover showers throughout the overnight. rainfall amounts pretty impressive. in fact we need a system like this. it's been a while that we picked up over an inch. maybe an inch and a third in santa rosa. and now it looks like the models scale back a bit. 3/4 of of an inch instead of the inches in perhaps in redwood city but we take it. here hon the west slopes you notice tomorrow afternoon through monday up to 24 inches possible with knows chain controls. but look at the winds. before the rain even starts we're up to 30 and 40 miles n hour at the coast. it's breezy everywhere throughout the date. and with the frontal passage

>> this is abc 7 mornings. >> it's great to have you with us. i'm chris nguyen. we are starting this half hour with a quick look at the weather. here is meteorologist lisa argen. tracking the conditions. we have had the pesky light showers in the north bay since yesterday. live doppler 7 showing most are offshore. but if we go further north towards our swep on mount st. helen aire middleton and clear look looking at showers. livermore has been plagued with four miles as well as half moon bay. and from the roof camera kind of gray now. the air quality will be poor in the north bay. this is a spare the air alert today. we look at conditions on the mild side to start out with 50s and sfo no delays, a few peeks of sun. temperatures on the peninsula in the 50s and cool in livermore at 43 degrees. so temperatures are milder with the clouds. we will be looking for clouds to thin out in the east bay valleys, in the south by. the rest of the bay though

east palo alto finally has long awaited protection against flooding from a nearby creek. yesterday dozens of people turned out to celebrate the completion of the project along this creek along the bay and highway 101. the work included flood walls upgraded levies and widening of the creek channel. 20 years ago this creek flooded and caused the evacuation of 1,100 homes. kploegs of the project brought peace of mind for people nearby. >> now we can look at that and see that we won't have the evacuations in the won't, won won't have stob worried or scared. >> the work protects the area from the sea level rise. the flood walls were built 10 feet higher than high tide. remember you can check the weather conditions in your area any time using the abc 7 news app. this morning president trump tweeted interior secretary ryen zinke is leaching his administration post at the end of theier.
