there has to be a waiver, there has to be something for somebody like me. >> reporter: her story has become a case for national immigration issues. >> despite trump's unfair, inhumane, cruel separation of this beautiful family, maria didn't give up. >> reporter: and will be spending the holidays with her children. reporting in san francisco, jobina fortson, "abc 7 news." new video in tonight showing the last of the camp fire victims returning to their properties. all evacuation orders were lifted for the town of paradise today. the butte county sheriff's office says all returning residents must have identification or proof of residency. non-residents will be allowed in tomorrow starting at 9:00 in the morning. the camp fire was the deadliest and most destructive wildfire on record in state history. 85 people died, more than 14,000 homes were destroyed. because of what happened in paradise, moraga held an evacuation drill this morning. take a look. this map shows the two cities

side-by-side, and you can see the similarities with only a few roads to get in and out. hundreds of residents took part in the drill at the country club. you see the drivers being evacuated and heading towards highway 24. st. andrews drive which is normally a two-lane road was turned into an evacuation route. . also in the east bay, the chp is investigating a possible case of road rage after someone shot at a car on interstate 680 in pleasanton last night. this may have started with some sort of altercation in fremont and ended with the victim stopping in livermore. officers say multiple gunshots were fired. friends of the victim tell "abc 7 news" the shooting was random and the victim is in his early 20s and is expected to survive. friends were traveling home from stockton from the san jose area after work. chp has a limited description of the suspect and vehicle. san francisco police teamed up with the community group to take hundreds of guns off the

streets today. "abc 7 news" was in soma this morning as the sfpd and the group united players staffed a gun buy back event. 244 guns were collected in all. that included seven assault rifles, 45 shotguns, five of which were homemade. 51 rifles, and the rest were revolvers and semi automatic pistols. it is the latest gun buy back event and united playas in their effort to make the streets safer. homicides in san francisco have went down, and the chief shared with me he believes, and i believe, that a lot has to do with these gun buy backs that are happening. >> those who brought in weapons received $100 for a handgun and $200 for an assault weapon. still ahead on "abc 7 news" at 11:00, a judge's ruling about the affordable care act causing confusion just ahead of the enrollment deadline. what officials are now doing to help you. >> plus, the long lines today for the bay area's very first

late friday night a federal judge in texas ruled the health care law unconstitutional following changes related to the recent tax bill. >> it was a big ruling. it is a great ruling for our country. we will be able to get great health care. we will sit down with the democrats, if the supreme court up holds. >> reporter: what health care would look like without the aca is up for debate. >> it is reading between the line. sure, coverage for preexisting conditions will be available, but at what cost? under the affordable care act you cannot discriminate against anyone for a preexisting condition. >> reporter: as politicians battle it out over the aca, california's health care marketplace, covered california, is extending its enrollment deadline. >> to eliminate any potential confusion from the texas court ruling, we're going to be giving consumers more time to enroll for january 1st coverage. >> reporter: saturday at midnight was the deadline to enroll for coverage to start on january 1st. now you have until next friday,

long cords can be a strangulation hazard for children. now most products used to cover windows must have no cords or short, inaccessible cords. the standard will affect more than 80% of window covering products in the u.s. and canada. the consumer product safety commission recommends people replace any blinds with cords. a warning before you break out the bling for your holiday baking. the fda put out new guidance if you are planning to use glitter for your treats. they say to tell if glitter saidible and not for crafts, look for a list of ingredients. it will include things like sugar and corn starch. the label must also say edible, non-toxic and for decorative purposes only does not mean it is okay to eat. hundreds of generous bay area residents gave a small token of their appreciation to brighten the holidays of military families. "abc 7 news" was in redwood city where hundreds of toys were donated to the nfl alumni association's annual toy drive. the items will be distributed

novato, so light sprinkles are likely. we had a couple of sprinkles that popped up in the east bay but they've now dissolved. otherwise it is a cloudy night out there. i want to show you the exploratorium camera. if you look really closely on the lens right now, you can see a couple of drops out there. to light drizzle tonight, but the main event is really going to hold off until sunday afternoon for a lot of us. on the storm impact scale, it is a moderate level two storm swinging through here on our sunday. some soaking showers from a half an inch to an inch of rain across the entire region, and it is not only the rain. we are tracking some strong wind gusts, too. 30 to 40 miles per hour, and that rough and dangerous surf will be along the coastline the entire day tomorrow. do not go to the beaches and try and go into the water. it will be very dangerous. right now temperature wise, it is a mild night in terms of mid-december numbers. we're near 60 degrees in san francisco. 58 in fremont. we are at 50 in napa. a little cooler from fairfield,

brentwood to livermore. we are in the mid if not upper 40s. overnight tonight, here is the call. we will see a lot of cloud cover overhead, a little light drizzle here and there, but temperatures not falling too far from where we are right now. upper 40s to mid 50s. let's time out the rain moving in here on sunday. by 1:00 sunday afternoon, our attention starts in the north bay where you see the pops of yellow and orange on your screen. that is some heavy rain moving through the north bay. you notice much of the region outside of the north bay dealing with a lot of cloud cover. as this front moves to the south, by 5:00 as the sun is going down on sunday, the heart of the region is dealing with those downpours. you even see these pops of red, that thin line. that is some heavy rain, a brief bout with it, but still heavy rain that will move through the region. then by 7:00, i do think that's when folks in the south bay and the inland east bay will start to see the wet weather pick up with those soaking showers. but it is a quick mover, so by 10:00, 11:00, the heavy rain is

out of here and we're tailored to scattered, slight showers to end out the night, but winds are another factor with the storm. as the front moves through ahead of it, by 1:00 sunday afternoon, racing out of the south 20 to perhaps 40 miles per hour. as the front crosses through behind it, the winds do calm down, but that won't happen until about 6:00, 7:00 in the evening for a lot of us. overnight tonight, we have drizzle tomorrow, heavy rain into the afternoon and evening. highs on our sunday, upper 50s to lower 60s with the cold front moving through. not only rain we're tracking. a little bit of snow with the storm system as well, so a winter storm warning will go into effect at 2:00 tomorrow afternoon, lasting through noon on monday. about 5,000 feet, we could see anywhere from perhaps four to eight inches of fres powdh powd heading into noon on monday. accuweather seven-day forecast, we will show you tomorrow. it is rain, it is wind, and it

a lottery drawing for. her story gained national attention since she and her husband were deported under the trump administration's crack down. her husband remains in mexico. >> california extended its health sheerns sign up. it was made after a federal judge in texas ruled the individual mandate and other aspects were unconstitutional. stay away from the coastline beginning tomorrow. a powerful storm will bear down on the bay area sunday and create some extremely high and dangerous waves. with more on what to expect, let's get to meteorologist drew tuma. hey, drew. >> hey, there. we're tracking the rough surf that will be slowly increasing overnight. the high-surf warning will go into effect tomorrow morning at 9:00 in the morning. current wave heights right now, generally anywhere from seven to nine feet high. those will increase overnight. that high-surf warning lasting

until 9:00 p.m. sunday. the storm impact scale, a level two moderate system on sunday. it is really sunday afternoon and sunday evening that will feature the heaviest rain, up to an inch in some spots. 30 to 40 miles per hour wind gusts and, again, the rough and dangerous surf along the coastline. future weather, we'll get you into the early afternoon, by 1:00 in the afternoon, you can see that band of heavy rain along the cold front that pops as yellow and orange, moving onshore first starting in the north bay, and the system will sink south throughout the afternoon and evening. we will time out the rest of the storm system coming up in the full accuweather forecast in about ten minutes. eric. >> drew, thank you very much. developing news now out of washington, d.c.. interior secretary ryan zinke is stepping down. zinke, who you see here touring butte county with governor brown last month, is stepping down at the end of the year. he faces federal investigation into his travel, political

activity and possible con frikts of interest. he played a crucial role in president trump's efforts to roll back environmental regulations while promoting energy sources like coal and oil. in a series of tweets, zinke said he loved working for the president but cannot justify spending thousands of dollars defending himself from false allegations. he also attached a statement saying it is better for the president and interior to focus on accomplishments rather than fictitious allegations. president trump tweeted that the new interior secretary will be announced next week. the pilot of a vintage fighter jet that crashed off the shores of oahu this week says he remembers each and every moment. 47-year-old former f-18 navy pilot matt pate was at the controls of a 1951 hawker hunter when he says the jet began having engine problems. that flight he was taking was part of the hawaii air national guard's fighter training exercise program. he ejected from the jet before it crashed into the water. >> at that point i just realized, okay, there's

who lived in the international space station almost a year. kelly tweeted this screen shot saying he enjoyed their talk. curry said he didn't want to demean the accomplishments of astronauts. kelly in hess tweet offered this fun fact. to shoot a three-pointer on the moon, the three-point line, get this, should be at 142 feet on a court about two football fields long. so brainy. >> yeah, well, you got to be to be an astronaut. police in los angeles believe a propane tank caused a box truck to explode in rush hour traffic yesterday. that blast shook the neighborhood of boyle heights just before 6:00. the truck was hauling scrap metal to the recyclers when a propane tank it was carrying exploded for some reason. local residents were startled by the sound. >> i thought it was a bomb. other people too, like it was a bomb, a bomb went off. everyone was kind of looking

around. >> it was really, really scary, yeah. >> all of the apartments, like they just shook like it was an earthquake. >> nobody was hurt. the back of the box truck was eviscerated, but the cab wasn't damaged at all. the driver and his passenger walked away from the blast. a very close call to report for a small plane that made an emergency landing on a southern california beach. officials say the pilot and his nephew had been flying for about an hour. they were on their way back to john wayne airport in orange county when they landed on dana point beach. the fire authority says the pilot told them the plane lost power. no injuries were reported and there was no damage to the plane. if you still need to mail holiday packages, some post offices are open tomorrow even though it is sunday. 14 post offices in the east bay will be open tomorrow, and we have a full list on our website at abc7news.com. they'll also be open next sunday, december 23rd. the hours are 10:30 in the morning to 4:00 in the evening.
