we are tracking the weather. an active picture. let's show you some of the spots seeing the heaviest rain right now. zoom from san jose to sunny vale. pops of yellow and orange on your screen. a little bit closer to the north we go. walnut creek, antioch and san ramon, heavy rain right now. marin county and you are seeing heavy rain. over into san francisco, oakland, san leandro, steady but light showers right now. the storm impact scale tonight a level 2 moderate system working with showers and downpours and strong wind gusts close to 40 miles per hour. still have a rough surf along our coastline with the high surf warning in effect. we go hour-by-hour and time up the storm system and what you can expect this morning and heading back to work and school in a few minutes.

>> let's talk about the surf warning. you are looking soaked at 5:00, cornell. >> yeah. the rain has tapered off a bit but a stormy mix. rain, wind, a lot of rough surf. check it out. the waves are certainly increased in size since this morning. 20 to 40-foot waves have been predicted and despite the warning to stay off the beach, many people still came out. >> it's just really pretty even though it's windy and hits a high risk. it's really fun. >> reporter: big waves were breaking at ocean beach beg enough to attract these onlookers. >> we know we need to be safe and we choosing to stay away from the break waters. >> reporter: the high surf warning is no joke telling people to stay off the beach and

out of the water entirely. than and this warning on friday. >> we have told the waves are large enough to reach the sea wall at ocean beach. >> i think it makes everyone want to go to want beach when they say don't go to the beach. this is as close as i've gotten to the water. >> reporter: the warning didn't stop this soccer game from being played on the sand. in pacifica, the waves were bigger at rock-away beach. >> it's impressive. i would love to get out there, but i think it's a little bit too big for me. >> beautiful. it's really amazing. i can't believe how many surfers are out here. >> reporter: lots of surfers flocked here braving the water and catching the waves, or trying to. >> it's not too bad just yet. winds are certainly picking up. but being in the cove probably get some protective waves. >> reporter: now ocean beach is

normally a hot spot for surfers. we haven't seen any surfers out here today and officials say that is a good thing. it is too risky. as for the predictions of the rough surf reaching the sea wall at ocean beach, that has not come true. high surf warning continues through tomorrow night. live at ocean beach, cornell bernard. >> you can check the weather conditions in your area any time on our app that features live doppler 7 and free to download. >> san francisco police are looking for a man suspected of several crimes, including kidnapping an elderly man. >> abc 7 news was in the mission district when the man was reawe night wi -- reunited >> my dog he left. after that an hour or so, he came back here driving the

vehicle. he said the guy gave him the keys and he came back driving. >> san francisco police believe the suspected kidnapper might have been running from the scene of a traffic accident before abducting the victim. authorities in butte county will pursue criminal charges for a man who took photos in a property site. rob freestone along with two others were fired from bigge. freestone has not commented. five people to the hospital after a truck plowed into a restaurant in hayward. workers cleaned up the damage at a sizzler restaurant. the hayward fire department tells us who vehicles collided and one crashed into the sizzler about 1:00 this afternoon. a witness says a woman eating inside with her three daughters got trapped inside. a retired police officer pulled the woman out and her daughters walked away unharmed.

in the south bay one person is dead and another arrested following a crash in san jose. the two-car collision happened before 11:00 last night on highway 101 near tremble road. the person who died was thrown from one of the cars and three others taken to the hospital with significant injuries. a crash blocked multiple lanes of 680 near concord this afternoon. at least one of the vehicles involved wound up on top of the median. it's not clear if anyone was hurt or if the weather had anything to do with it. dozens of children and paints carried holiday wishes for migrant families along with signs and gift wrapped boxes along the embarcadero in san francisco today. ♪ >> the group wanted to show the true spirit of the holidays with love, compassion, and support from migrant families at the mexican border. >> he disagrees what is happening at the border right now. we have children and families

sending a message we support migrants that we think this country is in the wrong direction right now and not putting kids and families in detention. we want our country to welcome everyone who want to come here. >> demonstrators collected donations to help those migrant families at the border. >> we could see a partial shutdown of the government later this week over the white house demand to fund the border wall. president trump is seek $5 billion what is the battle over immigration. democrats repeatedly said no and sparked a heated exchange earlier this week between party leaders and the president. mr. trump even said he would be willing to take the blame if there was a shutdown. one of his senior advisers today said the white house not backing down. >> we are going to do whatever is necessary to build a border walk to stop this ongoing crisis of illegal immigration. if it comes to it, absolutely. >> democratic congressional leaders have proposed allocating no more money than $1.6 billion

a new art exhibit in london is shining a light on climate change. the museum is melting ice. 24 meltingdetached from a green sheet slowly, slowly drip. the installation is named ice watch. nearly 200 countries have agreed to rules for landmark paris agreement on how to cut greenhouse gas emissions and global warning. the agreement caps weekends of intense negotiations in poland. one says the plan is adequate and not be enough. others are saying the plan does not awe align the science and not drastic enough. president trump has promised to pull the united states out of the deal.

people taking part infant 118th annual golden gate christmas bird county. we were in oakland as a handful of the nearly 300 autobahn society members and volunteers helped count and spot our feathered friends. it provides past and present health of our bird populations and the environment. >> there are patterns have emerged from many years. some species are declining and some are increasing. crows are one of the increasing, bald eagles are increasing which is exciting. >> the christmas bird count in san francisco takes place on december 27th. new at 6:00, many local children will enjoy a brighter members of the bay area's hindu community. >> you're looking at some of the toys collected by worshipers at the hindu temple. many of the toys will be to local charities and assist families in need of gifts no their children. others will be given to children who are being held in juvenile

strange fish is making new appearances in monterrey bay. >> it's called the tsunami fish. it migrated from japan to the west coast and tsunami debris that floated across the pacific. one diver keeping a record said he and three others have spotted the fish near san carlos beach but hits been gone until three ways until now. >> if there is is a will, there is a way. he showed up with a an appetite and managed to find food ian hagging out around here. >> the fish has been spotted in oregon and washington state. we continue to track

downpours dotting landscape and that continues for the next several hours with this level two storm system. live doppler 7 showing active scan across the region and zoom in a couple of spots. you see the yellows and oranges north of antioch and over into vallejo and part of napa we see the heaviest rain. slide to the south and east of san jose and east of milpitas. heavier showers and steady light rain into walnut creek. what we are watching and awaiting is this cold front to move through here over the next couple of hours. here the just beginning to move on shore in the bay area. and once this does move through, it will initiate another line of some heavier rain and we expect that line to move through here 9:00, 10:00 later on tonight. not only rain tracking snow beginning to move into the sierra. doppler showing you light winter

showers and snow accumulation until mid-day tomorrow. back at home. holding in the mid to upper 50s throughout the day. we are going to hold here through the next couple of hours. once that cold front swings through here, that will drag in cooler air. we are also watching wave heights right now. they are on the rise. you can see from 11 to 14 feet from san francisco to half moon bay but to our north waves are crashing up to 20 feet high in point arena. we had a high surf warning in effect and that will last until 9:00 tomorrow night. on the storm impact still, still a level 2 moderate system working through here tonight. showers and downpours continue the next several hours. wind gusts 30 to 40 miles per hour and that rough and dangerous surf continues even into tomorrow morning. future weather back on at 9:00 sunday evening with future weather and you can see there is a line of heavy downpours as that cold front moves through. you'll notice that heavy rain

once again. by midnight, we are starring to see those showers move into the south bay get drier air working into the north bay and then after midnight, the storm system kind of swings out of here and those showers will niche. the time line overnight and into early tomorrow morning from now until midnight, we will track those showers and downpours from midnight to 4:00 a.m. early monday morning the showers depart. the monday morning commute we are dry and it's mostly cloudy but our roads will be rather slick as the water sits on the roads for the monday morning commute. overnight showers before midnight and tapering after midnight and left over with cloud cover. most spots will drop into the 40s, if not low 50s over the next 12 hours. highs on your monday is not a very bright looking day. we are leftover with a lot of cloud cover so upper 50s to lower 60s for your afternoon high. here is the seven-day forecast. a lot of cloud cover tomorrow.
