million campus in new york city. it will be 1.7 million square feet. and amy hollyfield is getting more details about the expansion. >> reporter: here's a look at mountain view campus. google is announcing a $1 billion expansion in new york city. new york was google's first office outside of california, and it now has more than 7,000 employees. and now will be expanding. in a statement google said, quote, this was in a blog post. new york city continues to be a great source of diverse world class talent. that brought people to the city in 2000 and what keeps us here. it season the only company moving in the bay area. apple will be building a $1 billion campus in austin, texas. they hope to move into a couple buildings by 2020 and have it all complete by 2022.

this morning, good news. steady rain is over. i am tracking scattered showers in across the north bay. you can see all green close to the coast trying to get to santa rosa as they move towards the east. thick fog in the north bay. you're pretty much getting everything mother nature is throwing at us while the rest of us are starting to dry out. this will hang around through 9:00. jessica. mike, thanks. new details on the wildfire that ravaged big sur two years ago. a report is criticizing the spending on the firefight which cost $262 million. the most expensive in u.s. history. it destroyed 57 homes and killed a bulldozer operator. the report down by firefighters united for safety ethics and ecology says the fire managers did not adapt as the wildfires behavior changed and it suggests the forest service took the approach of use it or lose it

with its budget. forest service officials have not responded to this report. >> new details about the death of a co-founder for the apps vine and hq trivia. they found drugs at the scene and are now testing them. 34-year-old colin kroll was found dead in his apart yesterday. his app hq trivia hosts daily contests. the one for last night was canceled and it showed what you see now instead. the app's host came on to get his condolences to his loved ones. a wellness check was asked for him. a new report about vaping and teenagers. the study found a number of high school seniors who are vaping tobacco products doubled in the last year. the study suggests the total number of students who vape went up from onerom 2017 to 2018. several chemicals with high cancer risks were found in teen's urine and saliva.

authorities are investigating a deadly crash involving a pedestrian. it happened early this morning on 1st street near 880. the victim was found on the roadway, taken to a hospital, then pronounced dead. it is not clear if weather it is not clear if weather played a factor. >> several people had to be treated at the scene. southbound 280 was closed for a time but sit back open for the commute. happening today, an oakland man who pled guilty to providing material support to isis is expected to receive his sentence.

he pleaded guilty to three counts of phony credit cards and identity theft. in detention hearings two years ago, the prosecutor described his plans to start fires in berkeley and san francisco, sell cocaine laced with rat poison in bars, and bomb gay nightclubs in san francisco. he faces a possible 47 years in prison. in the east bay, concord police are looking for the man carrying a gun that went off inside a packed mall. abc 7 news was at the sun valley shopping center after a bullet damaged the counter at cinnabon yesterday afternoon. a man's gun fell from his jacket. picked iup from the floor. nobody was hurt. and the man left before officers arrived. >> in the east bay, five people went to the hospital after a truck plowed into a truck in hayward. workers were cleaning up the damage at this sizzler. the fire says says two vehicles collided and a pickup truck crashed right into the restaurant yesterday afternoon. five people got hurt, including a young girl who was trapped under a table. the truck's driver was not hurt.

dollar expansion. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield live at the company's office in san francisco with more on what we are learning today. amy. >> reporter: hi, reggie. missing from this morning's big headline are the names san francisco and mountain view. google is proudly announcing an google is proudly announcing an expansion in new york city. google will invest $1 billion to create a new campus called hudson square in new york. its current office is home to several thousand employees. they speak 50 different languages. the news came from senior vice president ruth porat who wrote new york city continues to be a great source of diverse, world-class talent. that's what brought google to the city in 2000 and that's what keeps us here. this is a double dose of news of the bay area being left out.

blocking it. this came down from the national weather service. we get the high surf warnings. i want to read you what it says. use extreme caution near the surf zone as the large waves will be capable of sweeping people into the turbulent ocean water. cold water shock may cause cardiac arrest and it could cause involuntary gas reflex causing drowning for a good swimmer. i have never seen that. obviously they are sending out a big warning for everybody to stay away. here we are right next to the water. we're taking a look at the pacifica pier. we'll step back and send it back to you. >> get steve in the truck and turn on the heater. he got soaked. >> a perfect example of what mike has been talking about.

police department in ohio. it certainly looks like an e-mail from netflix. but they actually go to fake sites. they asked for personal information that can be used to steal your identity. you can avoid them by typing their web address directly into your web browser. apple is making two changes to iphone software to avoid a court-ordered sales ban in china. the changes are expected to rule o -- roll out this week. they voigted two eb -- patents. trading down quite significantly. 299 already. investors are looking ahead to wednesday when the fed is expected to announce another interest rate hike and we get a report on home sales as well. i did just double-check to make sure we had nothing blocking here. no, we don't. just volumes that are really starting to get heavy. thank you, alexis. a florida photographer spotted a man proposing to a woman eight years ago. joy instinctively captured these moments in front of a church in palm beach. she was there taking christmas photos with her family when she saw him drop to his knee and she snapped the photos of this couple's special moment. the couple disappeared before she was able to introduce herself >> my goal is just to give them these photos. it was a special day for the two of them much i don't know where they are now. i don't know if they're married now. if they have kids. so i would really be interested to see what their reaction would be. >> she posts them every december in hopes for a response but no response yet. >> remember the house in the holiday classic movie "a christmas story"?
