winter is coming, in about nine hours. the season shifts today. and we are hopping on the storm impact scale. a mass exodus coming, just not right now. if you're hitting the road for christmas, get out while you still can. it is supposed to be the worst day of the travel season for the bay area. right now the roads are light. it is only going to get worse as the day progresses and the weekend goes on. >> we are the grim reapers this morning. everything is bad. good morning on this friday, december 21st, it is 5:00 a.m.

we have scattered showers out there. it will not be awful. it will be wet in some spots. a trace to up to 1500ths of an inch and patchy fog. richmond, 580 and 880, that is where we are seeing the greatest amount of rain. you can see it coming down from our richmond camera on the richmond side of the richmond-san rafael bridge. showers through -- well, more than 7:00. up until about 9:00. and then by noon, they are completely gone. 4:00, increasing sunshine. 7:00, partly cloudy and dry. we'll top out in the upper 50s today. dropping to near 50 by 7:00. let's bring in alexis and talk about the commute. >> overall, we are light. no major incidents to talk about. definitely good news there. you can see a little road spray on gold especially gate bridge. light scattered showers for the morning commute. moderate like in richmond, as mike just showed you. so far we have light drive times. eight minutes southbound 101

crossing golden gate from marin county into san francisco. mass transit, we're looking good here too. 28 trains in service. no delays. a ace is on a modified schedule today. so only 3 and 5 are running. ace 1 and 7 will not run. no delays for capitol corridor. alexis, thank you. breaking news in the south bay. a fire broke out on blossom hill road in san hoe is say. >> abc 7 news reporter matt keller is on scene. he confirmed someone has died. matt. >> reporter: yes. good morning, jessica. very sad scene here. an adult man has died from a fire here at this apartment complex on blossom hill road, west of almadan. take a look at the video we have from inside this apartment complex. you can see where this fire took place this morning. it is a second floor apartment. a lot of people were evacuated from the adjoining apartments

here. and they were told to get out at around 4:00 when firefighters arrived on the scene, they were able to pull this man out to the courtyard and perform cpr on him. but sadly, he died this morning. the police department is here on the keep investigating. of course they will try to determine if there was anything criminal involved in this fire and in the death of this man. but firefighters say they're going to talk to us in a little bit. they're still trying to get more information about what exactly took place. this only happened about an hour ago. so this is a very active scene. blossom hill road, westbound direction, is blocked off. a lot of fire engines here. they have hoses down. they have a ladder on top of the driftwood apartment complex here. the scene will be around for a while longer. except traffic on this very busy road in san jose to be blocked for a what time. we will have more information as soon as possible we get it from firefighters here at the scene.

back to you. >> okay, matt, thank you. it has happened again. this is very scary. someone hijacked their baby camera and "the voice" they heard said they were in the house and would kidnap their child. it is a timely warpb hrely everyone with smart devices likely sitting under your christmas trees. >> reporter: a texas couple woke to sounds coming from the nest cam baby monitor in this 4-month-old son's room. >> we heard sexual expletives being said in his room. so we throw on the light in our room. he turned that camera on and told us to turn off the light. and he said i'm going to kidnap your baby. i'm in your baby's room. >> reporter: they ran into the room and realized they had been hacked. nobody was physically in the room but the baby. >> webcams are vulnerable because they're on the internet. and anything on the internet is

vulnerable, especially if you're not being really careful with your password. >> reporter: we reached out to nest. the company says it's likely the password for the device was compromised from a data breach on another site. >> secure passwords are important, and you need passwords that are especially important. once it is compromised, the hackers are going to try to use it on all your devices and services to try to break >> we have two passwords for everything. if they know one, we're done. >> reporter: it is not just baby monitors. others could be compromised without proper precautions. >> are you spying on us? >> i only send information to amazon when i hear the wake word. so what can you do to protect yourself? well, it's annoying and very tedious. with so many data breaches going on, change your passwords and

change them often. >> take advantage of two-factor authentication if it's available. this seems so simple, but make sure your wireless router is secure. if you want to find out if you have been compromised we have linked a consumer protection tool to our website, abc7news.com. the hunters point ship yard in san francisco. dozens of employees who look at the crime lab on the site will have to wait even longer to find out if their building is safe. the "chronicle" reports a test for radio activity inside building 606 has been delayed until at least mid-january. officials say contractual issues with the person being hired to perform the search is causing the delay. prefls te previous test results found lead and other contaminants in the tap water. they have been provided bottled water.

claims that the company lied for years on safety maintenance on national gas lines. state senator bill dodd says the utility has, quote, demonstrated a pattern of poor management and illegal conduct that has shattered lives throughout the state. pg&e says it has made personnel and organizational changes but hasn't disclosed specifics. san francisco police are looking for help finding this man accused of assaulting another man tuesday afternoon on mason street. investigators save the suspect punched a 38-year-old man in the face, knocking him to the ground, and then stomped on his head. if you recognize the suspect, call the san francisco police department. a woman is reportedly suing whole foods claiming she was fired from a san francisco store after complaining about sexual harassment in the workplace. according to the chronicle, the former cashier worked at whole foods on california and franklin streets. the suit alleges she was sexualsexual ly harassed by her male

supervisor and fired days after reporting him to management. whole foods, which was acquired by amazon last year, has not issued a response. a u.s. official tells abc news that the trump adinistration is planning to cut the number of troops in afghanistan by half. some troops may start withdrawing in a few weeks. this comes as congress is not happy at defense secretary james mattis is leaving. he will retire at the end of february. in his resignation letter he told president trump he should have a secretary of defense whose views are better aligned with his own. this comes a day after president trump made the surprise announcement that u.s. troops will be withdrawing from syria. republican representative michael mccall said mattis stabilized the world view on the u.s. and he slept better knowing he was in charge of our military. all right. you're never more than 7 minutes away from my accuweather forecast. rain moving west to east across our neighborhoods right in the heart of the bay. in fact, some of the better

radar returns are up and down the east bay shore along interstate 80, into 580, and also 880, and heading all the way down to the san mateo pwreuplg, at least on the hayward side. it does slip through to pleasanton. temperatures here running in the low to mid-50s. orinda, 47. fremont, 49. the the rest of us in the low to mid-50s until you get to fremont in pleasanton and livermore. we're going to have delays at sfo. you can see the cloud cover and the fog and a little bit of rain moving in. beaches, they'll be dry in the afternoon hours. same thing out on the bay. if you're out and about, but it's the morning, you need to have caution. that's when we have wet weather. fog through at least 8:00 in the north bay. increasing sunshine and 50s. 47 at 8:00. east bay valleys, fog through 8:00. and then by noon, we will start to see sunshine. top out near 60. 51 this evening. in the south bay, cloudy through noon. sunshine breaks out. upper 50s in the afternoon

so far they have not caused any issues. 880 between high street and 23rd in oakland, we are seeing red here on our traffic sensors. they should have this done by 6:00, if not before that. it is adding 5, 10 minutes to your drive. taking a look at the bay bridge toll plaza, metering lights still not on. we have the carpool lanes open. we still have a little backup on either side. overall, that is looking pretty light too. we'll take a look at drive times as well. westbound 580, tracy to dublin, finally flipping from green to yellow. but it's not bad, 34 minutes. dublin to mission boulevard, still in the green at 15. and 101 to cupertino, same thing, should taker you about 15 minutes. raiders quarterback derrick carr does not have a home to play football next year. he has one more game at the coliseum on christmas eve. he talked about the nostalgia and emotions about the stadium dedespite all the issues it has. >> people talking trash about it through the media.
