b.a.r.t. police investigate the report of shots fired. >> and b.a.r.t. said no one was struck by the gunfire. it happened at around 3:30 this afternoon. a resident who lives across the street told abc 7 news he heard three gunshots. b.a.r.t. service was halted but everything is up and running with some residual delays. >> good evening. i'm dan ashley. >> and i'm kristen zse. this is the second violent incident at b.a.r.t. today. police are looking for a man who pistol-whipped and tried to rob someone outside of the mcarthur b.a.r.t. station this morning. >> more on this from eric thomas. >> reporter: what was first reported as a fight on the sidewalk outside of macarthur b.a.r.t. attracted this po ce s. but investigators quickly learned it wasn't a fight, it was an attemptedeictirm am was pistol-whipped and the suspect got away empty handed. >> officers learned that the suspect, and during this attempted robbery struck him with a

scooters and a whistleblower coming forward with rob hayes from our sister station in los angeles. >> electric scooters are cheap and fast and popping up all over southern california but now claims that scooters belonging to the bird company are put into service in unfe condition. >> i don't want to see people get hurt. there are too many companies doing this the right way and bird is choosing not to. >> reporter: matt fisher spent a year working for bird, first as a charger and then a mechanic, tasked with repairing the scooters. he said bird officials told him to ignore problems like striped or missing screws. or loose halendba. rs >> y ou cthey could d come into two and the next thing you know you're sliding across the pavement at 15 miles per hour, y they say is noteca tul damaged. this is a broken fender/brake. >> he showed us this message by a bird officials and it does say problems with brakes should by listed as damaged but screws or loose necks or handlebars and

other problems should not be a reason to take a bird scooter off the road. bird corporate gave us a written statement. telling us safety is the company's number one priority and saying riders should let them know when they spot scooter problems. quote, we strongly recommend reporting any damaged scooters or incidents that bird scooters are involved in, as we have a support team dedicated to safety that is available around the clock to address questions and reports we receive. but fisher said doesn't want to hear f bromir people li him. >> they fired me because i spoke up about their repairs and said it was dangerous and it is going to harm people and i continued to mark them as damaged. >> reporter: and when fisher posted the problems with bird scooters online, he said bird threatens to sue him for violating a nondisclosure agreement, sending him this cease and desist letter. bird-r bird-related injuries continue to mount. >> i tried to hit the brakes and
